Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

I feel like if you know the basics of SC the vast majority of commentators are really bad and add nothing of value. I have been watching much recently but the only one that's stood out as really good is Apollo.

It's hard to believe that StarCraft is considered a spectator sport in some parts of the world. It's easily one the most boring games to watch.

As somebody who has about fifteen minutes of total Starcraft experience and far too much experience watching pro sports: A lot of people would say the same about a lot of sports. Interest in the game itself goes a long way to improving the experience of watching.

I'd happily watch if Vinny did all the pro tournament commentary.

Perhaps you perceived that as a slight against Vinny's commentary but I'd listen to Vinny try to explain what's happening too.

Probably, but I don't play SC2 so having someone like Husky go over the current metagame to try to explain the strategy and tactics that players are going for really helps. Knowing what each unit does isn't enough.

I've found most of the time they are wrong and just making it up as they go along.

See? Esports and FGC aren't that different. Can't we all just get along?

The show got much better as they got more exhausted and started caring less about presenting the show as something you might see on TV and were more just shooting the shit and naturally prodding each other. The Starcraft section was highly entertaining because none of it felt forced. I also found Eric and Chris to be enjoyable. There is a good old man v. young whipper snappers, get off my lawn dynamic that works.

Didn't take it that way at all so no worries! For someone like me who has little to no interest in Starcraft, I'd rather listen to someone like Vinny who isn't using all the proper calls that would go over my head but can totally see both sides of it.

Chris seems do to everything everything Ryan hates.
Chris does everything I hate... :|

Seriously, just merge already so I can throw my hands up and most likely throw the towel in on GB video content, and eventually the rest. Might just be reading and listening to the podcast until they ruin that with Gamespot as well. STOP IT, you are ruining yourselves!

You sound like a crazy person.

You're being pretty dramatic. lol

Even as someone who's never played StarCraft before I thought that segment was pretty entertaining, although that could just be because of my growing desire to give it a try. These guys will have produced a ton of SC2 content by the end of the week.

Also I fully endorse a SC2 scrub league.

On twitch it was around 400-200 viewers. On their live stream thing there were 18 comments on their site. Weird.

How does that even happen when the stream had top billing on Gamespot's front page? I understand that Gamespot has multiple things going on at once, but that's just crazy.

I think that's why they bring in giantbomb, because giantbomb's audiences are more used to catching such content live. I'm going to guess that GameSpot's audience is a more regular gaming group that isn't obsessed enough to follow them on stuff like twitch.

I think GameSpot host the stream on their site, and not only through twitch. I guess that's why the views aren't that much higher with both sites promoting the show.

This week's "Professional Weds" was a huge improvement. A fairly large amount of games shown, decent time spent on each one, good balance of discussion of the game at hand as well as jokes, and classic GB chaos throughout without being a complete clusterfuck.

Yeah, last week they switched around too much. Plus they had less people on this week so it was much more fluid instead of just introducing new people for each segment. If this is the way the show is going then it should be a great addition. And no offense to Jeff but having Vinny as the major GB voice piece is not a bad thing!

Hell yeah, I'd watch that but low level SC2 is really slow. They'll have to encourage players to attack.

I'm convinced the problem Brad had in that match was he didn't know how widow mines worked. He knew he needed detection to see them but I don't think he realized that they don't explode when they attack regardless of what the word mine implies; they fire a missile and cool down and fire again. I think he didn't bother taking them out with detection because after he walked over a mine field he assumed they were spent, so he'd walk over the same exact mines later. They weren't being replenished, they were just accumulating. I'm sure he's well aware of that now. I could be wrong but Brad completely outclassed that guy.
