Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

They should just track down a PS1 copy. It's one of the most unintentionally hilarious games I've played. Once you get a gun, you can shoot anyone (including yourself) during any cutscene.

That sounds amazing, would make my subscription worth it ten times over. Is this attempt by Patrick a recent thing? Must have missed it.

I wouldn't go that far. Jeff sung the praises of VVVVV, and Vinny and Brad both used to bring up indie games in the past. Patrick came in during a great rise in Indie games and iOS stuff that would have been covered regardless. Yeah, they wouldn't be talking about silly apartheid Flash games or whatever, but the idea that a lot of indie games would be ignored is silly.

His longer news pieces and interviews are his strength for me. I am sympathetic to complaints about hm on quicklooks over explaining things, and the desire for a return of the four man Bombcast. Also, "mechanics!"

But, who really cares? He is on the crew and will be for quite some time; he seems like the most eager of the five to join game development in the future and I would not be shocked if he gave it a shot sometime.

Fair, but im refering more towards stuff like Cart Life or Teleglitch, etc. PC indie games that arent necesarelly on services like Steam (now Cart Life is, but you know what I mean).

VVVVVV was getting discussed everywhere and it fits with the most popular indie games out there. Vinny is great on covering the grounds on indie adventure stuff mostly

I just think Patrick fits well with as you said the rise of good and maybe not that popular indie/iOS stuff.

Bombastica is basically reviewing 20 year old games. Its perfect for Ryan since thats normally how long it takes him to review something.

Is he actually working on reviewing God of War? I bet he writes it off because of PAX planning and OH WOW the PAX panel will be the exact same PAX panel they have done for the last 4 years.
Daaaaaaamn. Ice cold.

Ah..The Bi-weekly Anti-Patrick session.

Just let it all out so we can move on, everyone. No need to keep it bottled up.

Can I find any post you make stating an opinion on something and dismiss it as you just having a mini tantrum? I can call it The Bi-weekly No_style Bitches About Something session.

Guys, it was literally two posts complaining about Patrick. Do the wagons really need to be circled every time someone demonstrates an unpopular opinion?
This man is right... caulk the wagons and float them!

The ARMA III QL might be one of my favorite all-time quicklooks now, geez, hahahahahaha!
I was never interested in ARMA, but the DAYZ stuff looked interesting enough that I was considering jumping in. However, ARMAIII looks like it could be worth just going for that. I mean, I need the time and other people to really make it worth my while, but I'm more down for AIII than I was ever before for the ARMA series.

If people want to bitch about Patrick, let them.

I think a better thing to bitch about would be their dogshit video player. Every other site on the web is fine, but every time I'm careless enough to attempt to watch a video on theirs, I'm burnt for it. Shameful.

it's the worst thing. i basically can't watch their premium videos if i don't catch the livestream.

I was just complaining about this a few pages back ;)

Their CDN that delivers the video to us users is extremely slow for some (including me), which leads to an inability to stream their videos at a reasonable quality: One of their engineers posted in this thread, promising that they are working with Akamai on getting more server capacity to improve the situation.

It's pretty unacceptable at the moment, hopefully they are able to resolve this soon!

I love that even the Akamai guys were surprised by the length of GB video content - "You guys spend and hour and a half talking about what?"

You guys are all from the UK right?
Born and raised.

I've never understood the hate some of you guys have for Patrick.

It just seems irrational, its not like he ran over you dog or something.

My theory on this is that Giant Bomb, being more about letting the personality of the staff shine through, attracts this kind of personalized hate. It's kind of like pro wrestling fans that actively hate certain wrestlers, they are tuning in for the personalities, and therefore dislike people and events that they perceive to ruin their ideal cast makeup.

That aside, listening to the past two podcasts today prompts the following thoughts:

- I am really interested in seeing what Jeff thinks about the Oculus Rift when his devkit arrives. His tolerance for bullshit is pretty low, and I don't see the current implementation pleasing him, especially when the lead-off showcase title is a game like TF2. Hopefully all the indie devs beta-testing the devkit and SDK crank out other support quick.

- I wish no one (GB or otherwise) would ever talk about SimCity again. There are only so many ways you can say "this game is a failure top to bottom."

I used to hate that Patrick was given a job at Giantbomb and not someone like Rorie but now I actually like him quite a bit and am happy that someone there is covering games that wouldn't be covered otherwise.

Also it used to be Vinny against everyone else. It's nice to have Patrick there so that we can have interesting discussions about games like Dark Souls instead of Vinny getting about a minute to make a point with everyone else ganging up and talking shit about games that they haven't even put an hour into.

Just based on the loudest complaints, it does seem to be centered around the UK. The difference for me in Pennsylvania since they've moved to Akamai has been night and day, much much better, but there definitely seems to be serious issues elsewhere.

I live in good ol' USA and their site is still utter shit for me, especially the video player.

I don't think it's that simple - judging by what dlc said, it seems to be a combination of ISP routing and caching issues.

FWIW, I'm in the UK and the video playback has been perfect since moving to Akamai (where as Amazon was intermittently awful).

Alright, just a coincidence then. I really hope they get it taken care of for you guys. I know what it's like to have to download videos for an hour + just to watch anything above the lowest quality when they were on the Amazon servers.

I just use their youtube channel which doesn't have random pausing issues.

I'm sure Patrick has a great relationship with Jeff, Vinny, Ryan and Brad, just like Alex does, but I just don't think that Patrick or Alex bring the funny the way those other four do. I'm just talking the Bombcast here. I totally think Patrick and Alex are the best writers on that site, but when it comes to just discussing games, they both come across as a bit too pretentious for their own good...or for the good of the Bombcast.

Fosters..is australian..for beer.. well..bee-yah

I think Brad is the worst member. Does the least amount of content and somehow gets away with only playing starcraft and ios games for months at a time.

I just imagined how great it would be if The Comedy Button and Giant Bomb traded favorite bits. Giant Bomb doing a round of Threadless Pitches or Putnam Whipple or SPAAAAAAAAAACE and The Comedy Button talks the logistics of Knife vs. Bat.
