Looking great but it seems to play exactly like a Call of Duty now...all scripted action.
I think it's safe to assume Durango is capable of these graphics, which is alright with me.

round based strategy

I am sorry, next time I will use a dictionary.

There are plenty of shooters that put BF and CoD to shame. Acting as if there's no answer to these horribly generic scripted campaigns isn't right. They need to either make a MP only game and outsource CGI work for promotional material, or actually give a fuck. Either one is fine.

I'm still shocked that MoH: Warfighter got so much heat for their campaign when BF3 wasn't any different. If the MP wasn't fucking amazing, they would get the criticism they deserve from critics and eventually accept they suck at anything story driven.

I have not made any comment about the gameplay. I am pretty sure trailers for such games would have shooting in it too, dare them.

Do you guys think there was any discussion at all about the mp at the conference? Are there perhaps some articles on the way? (crossing fingers)

Except that this wasn't a trailer. It was a good chunk of a mission, and judging by DICE's history, it will match the rest of the campaign exactly.

When does the embargo lift again?

I don't think anyone has problems with the shooting per se, they just don't like how rigid every shooting scenario looks like.

But I did watch on and what transpires later on in the video looks a bit more promising to me.

I thought the graphics were nice and am glad to see a lot of the vision occluding effects were absent or turned down. Gunplay looks ok - standard at this point and nothing exciting. Super linear gameplay segments shown for maximum cinematic value destroys any hope of this being a good SP - within 17 minutes we had at least 4 cinema moments where player interaction with the "epic" shit is 0.

Enemy A.I. looks like garbage (though maybe this was on very easy) and the spotting mechanism looks pretty over powered. Enemy placement looks incredibly uninspired - on a console with some Aim-assist you could probably get by with just popping in and out of ADS and kill everyone while moving straight forward towards the goal. Squad A.I. looks useless as well - two enemies in line of fire being shot at by two guys and nothing happens until you take them out?! Hopefully your squad A.I. will at least draw the attention of the enemies in many encounters (I can't be certain but it looks like the enemy prioritizes you until you use the spot mechanic at which point your squad draws attention and suppresses).

I also really hate how so many companies just switch it up between fighting Russians or Arabs every game. I guess the Metal Gear franchise has just made me think that PMCs are a bit more interesting.

At the outset I was very disappointed in the lack of interaction with the environment. A door is partially open, press E and stare at your hand/canned animation every time (would you really do this in a hostile environment?) instead of leaning, checking corners and pushing through slowly. Enter a room where enemies are below you searching - crawl across glass shard texture that doesn't make any sound... lots of geometry but it was really just noise without substance.

In the end though, I come to this franchise for the MP. I wasn't satisfied with BF3 and this video tells me nothing about that part of the game, so I will wait and see. I just hope that there are large, intelligently designed maps, solid gun play and much better net code.

Well then elaborate on it a bit more - "as soon as the shooting began" can be interpreted in many ways.

Utterly generic modern military shooting warfare. And would it kill them to get some voice actors that sounds like they give a crap?

Graphically amazing, but the single player is going to be even more scripted now it seems. I was laughing out hard with the collapsing buildning and everything falling apart. Reminded me about Uncharted and the latest Tomb Raider.

I thought it looked great. Graphics are about the same but with some added detail. I will be there day 1 regardless cause it is Battlefield.

Looks nice, but it also looks like Battlefield 3.5. It just too early for BF4, BF3 just got latest DLC. I wish it was some sci fi or medieval Battlefield.

Are people watching the same trailer as me or is it just cool to hate the popular games now? I watched that with a group of people at the office and we were blown away by how it all looked.

I dont get how people can say this looks "dissapointing" or "average" - what does it take to impress people if that wasnt it?

Are you an old-time BF player or somebody who started playing with the console releases. Because I find it real easy to be unimpressed. They've killed the old BF series.

Sort of. I don't hate it though, i enjoyed the SP in BF3/BFBC/BFBC2 and i'm not all against SP in BF4. What i hoped for was a multiplayer trailer, thinking that they might've learned from the last time when they showed off BF3 and alot of people was acting the way they are now : "boooo singleplayer! boooo i say!".

... And get ready for the thisisneogaf.gif!

Behind the scenes, Frostbite 2 was never actually all that powerful. They're using a lot of tricks to simulate nice effects and color grading for "realism."

I don't know all the technical details behind the engine but based on what I've played of BF3, it's amazing what they've pulled off. The fact that they can maintain the incredible level of detail on such a large scale with 64 players causing chaos and destroying structures is pretty impressive. Besides, aren't most engines using a lot of tricks to simulate certain effects?

DICE, you know me too well.

Dat Eurovision momentum :)

Game looks amazing, can't wait to play this. But I understand the people who are peeved at the lack of MP (what BF is mostly known for) and at the generic gameplay.

Also, doesn't that spotting mechanic looks vastly overpowered? just click your fingers and spot all the enemies?

A whole new take on the thing? Unless DICE is going down the Firefox route with their numbering I was expecting new stuff. Graphics look great, no doubt but that is hardly the point of BF.

As I said before, it even has the same animations (check the knife kill) as BF3, similar music, same colours and general feel.

I am of course willing to give the game a fair shake. Who knows, the MP might turn out to be great or sufficiently different/new/evolved.

But the first impression is rather disappointing.

About the kill zone / Battlefield 4 fight, i would say this is precisly the difference between good use of modern assets and effect and bad one. Kill Zone is probably on par in term of tech, but this demo is full of great ideas of setting, backgrounds and action to impress a lot! I'll say it again, the Kill Zone demo was a really poor choice of setting to begin with.

Looks like Battlefield 3. We're even getting some reused animations (knife kills), as well as some pretty poor animations from the enemy NPC's.

Some of it (graphically) does look better than Battlefield 3, but not much.

I bet you'll be thankful for it when the MP servers aren't working for the first weekend... again.

I would if other games didn't exist. Skyrim came out around the time everyone was having problems the first or second weekend from release. I'd argue that a small portion of active users fell off during that period then returned some while later.

How do people expect a developer to change a FPS in a sequel, other than the setting? BF4 looks like a worthy sequel.

That would be nice, but they're not going to take any risks. Not sure how you can say it's a worthy sequel when they haven't shown a thing.

Nothing to do with the licence success.

We get hyped by frostbyte 3 blabla, then..... a trailer of what could almost be a bf3 DLC campaign.

We get teased for naval combat, chopper, etc.. we receive a single player trailer 100% focused being infantry.

If they had thrown a MP trailer focusing on scale and diversity ( say a sort of modern 'remake' of bf1942 intro but in game ) with at the end a quick : conquest/ctf/rush/tdm ; up to 64 player ; blabla ; mod support ; commander ; battlerecorder... 'tututu tu tutu' ( battlefield theme ) join the battle.
There you would have it, I would be so hyped.... But now ? I expect a similar disapointment that bf3 was.
