Have a feeling Sony are going to drop bombs this E3

They've already said that they're going to keep on doing Uncharted until they're sick of it. Their other team is going to be the team that creates new IPs.

When did they say that? After 3? I would have been sick of it after that, but who knows. I guess I'm more excited for ND's B-team then. Nothing against the Uncharted games, they're great, but after so many you just want something new from people so talented.

Naughty Dog said they would keep doing Uncharted until THE FANS were tired of it. So at most 2 more but I see Uncharted 4 being the last one.

The games CGI cutscenes will look like that if not slightly better by now.

The game though. Look at the battle scenes. Now bring in luminous engine lighting and higher detailed character models and environments. That's what you should expect because that's what Nomura and some Famitsu editors said it looks like.

That would make it look about as good as the 2006 reveal trailer. That's not too bad.

I'm vehemently against third party exclusives in the industry at this point. It benefits no one. Well, it benefits the incompetent and the devs that like to leave money on the table. It truly is a stupid practice.

Becuase we have dates. Black Tusk opened in fall 2012, I think its obvioyus especially for a new studio to have a game ready to show. Where as say Sant Monica team led by Stig, hasnt released a game since God of War 3 which went Gold around Q1 2010. This is just one example.

Hasn't Stig kept himself busy helping the Japanese studios, or am I mixing him with someone else?

Sony Santa Monica has also helped others, like Thatgamecompany, after GoW3. So, it's not like they've had all that time to spend on making a new game. I wish they have been cooking a new IP for a long time, but I still remain somewhat sceptical until shown otherwise.

It would be a mainline FF in name only.

It would be more Final Fantasy then XIII and XIV.

Versus actually has a world map and airships. The only staple of the series it doesn't have is turn based battles instead opting for an action RPG experience which in truth the series was moving towards anyways with XII and XIII.

Exactly. That's why people who are still fans and are excited for Versus are so excited. It's also why we are so impatient.

Stig has a team that has been working on a new IP since God of War 3. And that was years ago. So yes, I expect at least one of Sony's top tier teams to have a game ready for the launch window.

historically, naughty dog has never taken a franchise past the third sequel. with crash bandicoot and jack and daxter, they both had 3 games each and 1 kart game each.

Well, there's already Guerrilla & Evolution. I do hope you're right, and their making a new IP. After playing Ascension, I'm a bit tired of that particular genre.

Sony should probably look into buying Square if the rumors about them having to take on dev costs is true.

They don't have to buy them out. All they need to do is keep increasing their share in the company to the point where they pretty much bully Square Enix into doing what they want.

Edit: Not bully them but have very persuasive swing in the company. Also they already kind of have that persuasive swing anyways. Why do you think they show up to press conferences when Sony asks?

Idk after they introduced a new IP this gen It seems like the ND rules are out the window

LittleBigUniverse sounds cool. Still kinda excited to see what surprises Sony has. I bet a lot of them will be third party exclusives.

Nintendo announced a whoooole lot of stuff for E3 so that's going to be a good show too

Microsoft could go either way. They need to realize that E3 is for gaming enthusiasts, not casual gamers. No one watching E3 will care for Kinectimals.

I think it's a lot more likely that they blew their load with the initial announcement and E3 is just going to be a lot of padding. Which is bad because the announce was mostly meh.

It's almost like people are conveniently ignoring the many posts in this thread that detail how many first and second party devs are actively making games for the PS4.

As far as Uncharted goes, Nolan popped up in the making of video for TLoU

He doesn't have any role in that game as far as we know. And it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for a voice actor to just be hanging around a development studio if he doesn't have a project currently in the works by them.

Doesn't matter. If it wasn't intended to be a numbered entry in the franchise during the planning stages, then it's not really a true mainline FF. Not only that, but it only ended up as a mainline title after one of the most hilariously drawn out and inefficient development cycles since Duke Nukem Forever.

Slapping "XV" on the box at the last minute is nothing more than a marketing ploy to drum up some extra consumer interest in what's probably Square's most expensive game to date while distancing the franchise from the controversial Fabula Nova Crystallis branding.

maybe he lives there

this post makes no sense. Projects evolve as time goes on, and you better believe a lot of things happened in the LONG time this has been in development. Who is to say that after a few years they didn't realize that this was in fact much bigger than they ever intended and they might as well make it an official number. What Versus "was" is meaningless considering how long it has been in the works and probably evolved.

On Gaf an exclusive FF would be a megaton, I'm not so sure about everywhere else. LBP wouldn't either IMO.

Santa Monicas new series will be big news. It's going to be interesting to see what they come up with.

Well I guess IX wouldn't be considered one either then.

Those are bombs? Really?

Wow. But I guess keeping expectations low is a good thing, because these events generally disappoint more often than not.

Oh, I see. I don't know, I haven't played the Uncharted games yet besides their demos and multiplayer (I have U1 and U2 sitting right above my PS3 on my TV stand) but from everything I've seen and heard, I'm more interested in seeing such a talented studio go in new directions.

Either way their games will likely kick ass, so it's all good.

Getting a 6-7 million game exclusive is not a megaton? I doubt any third party exclusive MS or Sony get will sell as much.

but will final fantasy sell that much after how shit 13 has been ? being an exclusive will it really help ?

The series once sold 6 or 7m. FF 13 angered a lot of people, and It remains to be seen where any future FF game will still sell those numbers.

I think nintendo and ms will drop more to be honest.

I'm curious what Nintendo has to show.

I don't give a shit what anyone says, announcing a new LTTP and Yoshi Island game on the same day was a fucking megaton. Even if you aren't interested in those games, that's pretty big news for the 3DS, especially when it's not even a conference or something.

I'm not sure if that translates into them saving their best stuff for E3 though. They might just think piece-mealing it out slowly over the year is a better strategy.

I'd say that history is on its side. It's not like each game links into the next in any major way. Every new mainline FF means that you get new characters, a new world, new gameplay etc. So you could love one FF and hate the next. That's happened many times in the past. Both FF8 and 12 were quite controversial (although not as much as 13), and the next game still sold well because it's a clean slate.

Just want to clear up a few things:

1) The game was meant to be treated like a mainline entry because of the work and concept behind it. Versus XIII and XIII were supposedly both mainline entries with two different takes on how the series should move forward.

2) Versus world, story and characters were so disjointed from the FNC mythos I was surprised they even had the audacity to even put it into the FNC sub-series. Minor changes would have to be done to completely get rid of any of the FNC mythos that might be there. Very minor changes.

3) Several things: Versus didn't start real production (full production) till mid/late 2011. In that time of pre production and planning they may have decided to go ahead and call it XV. It has better production values and concepts then any Final Fantasy before it so why not. I don't see why naming it XV would be bad for the game or series if its a great game. It will lose more money then it will make if its not XV.

4) On the topic of how "expensive" the games development is, I think this is the single biggest misconception about the game. Leading up to full production in 2011 the game had very few people working on it. For 5 years they had people working on Versus while also working on XIII and XIV. Even Nomura was working on other projects while working on Versus. The game up until 2011 incurred very little development budget within Square Enix. Even after 2011 the Versus team had to help with remaking XIV. All in all Versus is not taking up much development power or budgets as many people think it is. I would be surprised if SE has even spent over 50 million on the game to be perfectly honest.

5) Now onto the whole XV thing. If rumors are to be believed the game switched to Final Fantasy XV rebranding around two years ago. Meaning a few months before it entered full production they made the decision to call it that. I don't see that as a bad thing. This only can be seen as a good thing for Square Enix, Sony, the Versus Team, Tetsuya Nomura and honestly the consumer. I say the consumer because they will finally get a mainline Final Fantasy worth talking about again and the "spin-off" stigma Versus gets will disappear. There are people who even on this thread believe the game to have story and characters in common with XIII when a lot of fans know that's not the case. Rebranding it XV is good for everyone all around.

Yeah if XV is great they can still salvage the series (tho Lightning Returns was one XIII too much...)

I actually think they have some pressure to impress with XVersus. If the game is a stinker then I would start to really get worried about the franchise.

The op post is saddening for me, because it destroys half the original reasons I got my ps3 for. The last guardian was one of the big reasons i got my ps3. I pre ordered two copies of the game too. And the rumors of versus being called ffxv and becoming a ps4 title would be disappointing as well, but not as much given the current state of SE

I've been waiting so long for Last Guardian also. If it goes to PS4, that will be the one thing that will make the PS4 a must have for me.

Smash bros, wii u zelda, wii u mario, retro studios project, X footage, bayonetta 2 footage, second party games, third party bombs, price drop, wii u ambassador program ≥>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sony bombs mentioned in this thread.

Unless we're talking about their cellphone and tablet endeavors.

Wouldn't understimate them there, either. They're still very young in the smart-phone market, and practically newborn in tablets. The thing about the latter though is that they're going all in by making their main OS tablet-centric, which could do them a lot of favors in the future. Not to mention stuff like the Surface will only get better with time.

For me a lot of those really depend on what they are. Smash Bros. is locked in to get my interest, but a new Zelda is going to have to be something really interesting, because I got pretty burned by SS. Retro will likely be solid as well. 2nd and 3rd party games could be a coin flip.

The days of Final Fantasy being exclusive are over. Square Enix can't afford not to have it on just one system. And if MS keeps its NA lead, then it will get ports.

Interesting points. It's worth noting that previous FF games sold in the regions of 8 or 9m a game? I'm not sure about the exact number. They also had really long legs sales wise.

Ff 13 sold 6m copies pretty much at launch, but dropped off a cliff when people realised how bad it was. I'm not sure that's happened before. It could be taken as damage done to the series.

Even if the Final Fantasy game only sold 3 million, that's a big seller. It's bigger than Heavy Rain, for example, and that game was wildly successful for Sony.

Which is why it would be a bomb if sony lock it up.
