can someone remind me of something? Why did the Night's Watch go beyond the wall in Season 2 again? Before Jon got caught and stuff...

And what's the current state of the Wall? How large was the group that went beyond the wall with Commander Mormont? Are there still a large amount of Rangers left to guard it?

I forget the exact reason but the Night's Watch were going past the Wall at the end of Season 1. I believe they were curious of the White Walkers and such.

Jon Snow was saying that there were a thousand at Castle Black.

They went North because the last few rangings that was sent north did not return. Except as wights and attacked them. So they wanted to know what happening north and since small ranging groups didn't return they decided a larger force would be able to gather info and be able to return safely.
 
Thanks guys, yeah I figured it was just something like that, but I was wondering if there was a bigger reason they went that I had just forgotten about. It was weird once I thought about it that the Commander had been with them and it makes me wonder what the hell Jon and them are going to find when they get to the Wall.


Also, there's gotta be an inevitable Lady Olenna and Lord Tywin scene at some point right? Because that would be incredible


Lastly, Gendry sticking with the Brotherhood is definitely suggests that Melisandre is going to meet up with them and find Gendry has the blood of the king, etc. etc.


Oh and Blackfish is supercool and I really hope he gets to do more stuff

Holy shit you're right. Thoros probably knows Melisandre or was trained by her. She probably went to meet up with her fellow lord of light priests and priestesses. And Gendry is the last living son of Robert Baratheon. I figured that she wanted kings blood and was going to use that jar stuff we saw.

I hope Gendry hightails it out of there. Arya was so sweet to say she would be his family if he wanted. But at least Arya is going home to Riverrun soon. Maybe she can convince Gendry to go with him.

Seriously? Tywin plainly spells it out. I get that some details can be lost, but when Tyrion is in disbelief he immediately explains why, and when Cersei's in disbelief about Loras he immediately explains that too, right away.

Yeah, along with Tyrion's plan to send Myrcella (sp?) to Dorne and Littlefinger's plan to marry Cat's sister in the Eyre, it's clear the Lannisters are trying to lock shit up coast to coast.
 
Another fantastic episode. There's so much to love in this one: Ygritte/Jon, Granny Tyrell/Tyrion, the Hound Fight, Robb finding a new purpose, Jaime/Brienne and Daenerys talking to the grateful Unsullied. If this season continues like this it will become my favorite one.
But it is frustrating how Sansa trusts a lot of people and when offered an opportunity she decides to stay because someone is promising her that better things will come. I don't blame her for trusting the kindness of strangers but at least she's far too valuable to be harmed. If she ever marries Tyrion at least he will treat her well but I'd prefer if he stayed with Shae.
And I'll never doubt the power of the Lord of Light again. I still hate how everyone in that religion just loves serving their God but this thing seems very powerful.
 
Great episode though not as good as last weeks. Sansa really is a bit too naive given what she's been through and Robb was also pretty irritating as well.
 
I thought it would have been funny if Danaerys had responded when the soldier chose to keep his own name:

"Very well. Dracarys."

Amazing sword combat choreography. I was mesmerized by how well the fight was captured on screen despite all the quick blows they were trading with one another.
 
I didn't like the look in Baelish's eyes when Sansa said she wanted to stay.
 
Good episode. Some scattered thoughts:
-So many butts.
-I realize Jaime is hurting, but the dude needs to stop mumbling during story time.
-Starting to feel bad for Sansa.
-The scene with the Onion Knight and little porridge face was adorable.
-Tywin/Tyrion/Cersei exchange is all kinds of messed up. Funny. But still messed up.
 
Alright, I need to know what the fuck's up with that Lord of Light shit that's been happening since last season. Is this going somewhere ? I mean, is the "Lord of Light" some character who's pulling some strings from behind the scenes only to be revealed as the ultimate enemy of Westeros sometime later on, JRPG-style ? Or is this simply some Battlestar Galactica, polytheism-demonizing bullshit ?
 
Overall pretty great episode. I thought the writing suffered a bit during Ygritte and Jon's scene (felt like the "you know nothing Jon Snow" thing was kind of fan fluff that was unneeded...and the "I don't want this night in the cave to end" thing was pretty damned cheesy), but other than that it was good.

For a while I've had a hard time really hating Joffrey. I mean, I do, but I've channeled my hatred more to Cersei than him, because she created him. He was the product of Robert and her, and he couldn't really end up any other way. That scene with Tywin sort of had me feel bad for Cersei now. Especially when she said "not again," I felt really bad for her. She's just the product of his shit, too. It's all just a shitty downward spiral for the Lannisters. It's karma biting them all in the ass for being so obsessed with power. It's pretty insane the show managed to get me to feel bad for her at all for even just that second, because she's a right cunt. But she believably turned into a little girl for just that moment, and I did.

It's also an odd scene because even though the Lannisters are scheming, you almost feel happy Sansa gets with Tyrion, because at least he's a decent dude.
 
Did anyone else feel as though the actors were mumbling their lines? I turned the volume way up and I still couldn't hear what they were saying for a good chunk of the episode,
 
Great episode. It gave so many characters some development and set the stage for what's to come.

My favorite scene had to have been Jaime's bathtub talk with Brienne. It's amazing how he's becoming a sympathetic character.

I don't know if I agree with your point about Joffrey. Cersei's other children are both very sweet and I can't imagine that they were treated any differently. I do agree with you about Cersei though. She was a total bitch and now we see where she learnt it.

This is why I sometimes watch the show with subtitles. This episode was worse than usual in that regard, though.

I know. Let me explain better. In Battlestar Galactica, in the last season, humans started following the One True God that Cylons had been worshipping. The show itself (and by extension, Ron Moore) pushed the idea that monotheism was better and holier than polytheism.

What I meant by my comment is that I am afraid that Game of Thrones will do the same in the future; as in, the One True God will be adopted by more and more people as the Old Gods and the Old Old Gods are left behind as vestiges of the past.
 
I also just realized that Robb's story seems to be kind of paralleling Ned's. He starts out strong. He's the guy you root for. He seems to have his footing in this whole thing, but then things start to unravel slowly. You still see glimpses of ways for him to get out of it, but ultimately their strict adherence to honor is their undoing. I really like Robb and don't want to see him go like Ned, but I'm really thinking that's how this ends. I don't see his plan going well at Casterly Rock. Tywin is busy gathering nearly all the damned kingdom to his side. He'll just send all of them over to him.

That's not to mention I have no idea how he's going to smooth things over with Frey, lol.

Also, I suppose the way Robb fucked himself over is the same way the whole started to begin with.

None of them were groomed to be the future king that would be free to do whatever they wanted. Joffrey was both a vessel for Cersei and Robert. Cersei placed all her longing for power and freedom into him. She was trapped in her marriage and he was her "fuck you" to that. Then, as far as a role model of how to play king you had Robert, the guy who would go out drinking and hunting and fucking whoever and didn't give a shit about his mother. How do you think he's going to turn out with his ear filled with "You can do whatever you want when you're king. You'll be the greatest" and his eyes filled with Robert's actions.
 
Amazing episode. Can't something good happen to the good people of the show ? It's lonly the assholes that thrive. Oh well.

Rob just lost half he's army. Their's no way he can win this war, I don't care if he's last name was Silverburg. He should return to the north but then the story would end lol.

The Lord of Light stuff is becoming good it may be the only thing that can stand up to dragons and white walkers.

Edit:I agree with the poster above me. Robb story is becoming exactly like Ned. Honor will destroy him. If he dies I see him dying as Ned because of honor and not being a "bad character" like everyone else who lives.

It would be nice if John Snow would make ot south and reunite to fight alongside Robb but that won't happen. :-/
 
Also, have to say that Stannis's scenes with his family were awkward as hell. The way he talked to his own daughter was just downright weird. Guess you can see why no one likes him and everyone flocked to Renly, lol.

I don't like him but I respect his shrewed grasp of "the game." He wears his pin as Hand of the King like it's a crown. He's a very powerful and talented Chief of Staff.

I would like to see Jon Snow come up and become his true rival!
