"Let's play a game. Do you think Microsoft will charge for Gold on the next Xbox?"
Of course...
Now my turn: "Do you think Microsoft will charge for online multiplayer?"

No, it will use HDMI pass thru which requires the cable box to be around. It will just allow the content to be pushed through the system at which point they can overlay new menus and stuff. Should also allow for DVR functionality.
Good, now I can be interested in Durango![]()
Good. Now I need to justify to my wife why I need this in addition to the PS4.
Hmm... Got any tips?
Two weeks until we find out what is true and who is pulling what out of their Ars.
It appears Microsoft is still in damage control mode. From what I get out of that is that it will now be tolerant of internet outages but sounds like people who are in the military or at a school that won't allow the 360 thru their firewall are still sol if they can't connect at all.

"There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game."
damage control from what??
pastebins and great piece of journalism of vgleaks?....cmon pls
And the share button was leaked way, way before the conference. So he's flat out wrong.
I assume from the media blitz. I still think it was a bad idea to wait this long.... and still no public response. Even if they announce "no always online" then say but no used games etc. people will still have a much more negative outlook on things. I think they should have nipped it in the bud right off the bat.

Either way we will never know the truth about the Nextbox's always online. Wish there would be a "behind the scenes" after launch so we know how close these idea(s) came to fruition.
It's a pretty popular opinion on here and it's one I share. They've already raised the price once. What's stopping them from doing it again? It's not a matter of what, it's a matter of why not?
Still a rumor, but if it's true it sure would be interesting to go back and read all the negative threads about the next Xbox and always on connections.

Some single player games will require internet, however."
Dat White Lumia 920.
And in small print:
"Unless our third party developers feel otherwise......"
I'm still not convinced. The fact that MS has now apparently addressed this internally means there was/still is fire near this smoke......
This is non-news. It was already said that always-on internet will be up to developers.

This statement:
should actually say this:
This report is non-news and just a PR spin to make people forget about the fact that some single-player games will indeed have online requirements. Just look at the language in there. They didn't say all single-player games. They said a single player game.

It would have come out now because the policy just got changed, and they want the good news dripping out before the conference.

You'll have to source your claim. Not sure if it's been posted yet, but a mod should edit the thread title. This information isn't directly from Microsoft and should be considered a rumor.

That being said, I still hope it's true. But it's rumor nonetheless until Microsoft outright says so.
i think the second one...99% of the sites...and the only who r in posses of real leaks....will be saved saying....WAS OLD LEAKS....
Dem posts. Watch dem shift.
well, the rumor that everyone complained about was that this would be enforced through the console, as opposed to a per-game basis.
A random single-player game having online requirements is obviously still possible, and I'm sure there would be plenty of those to complain about. But obviously, that's something that's possible on literally every single online-capable console, not some secret Durango exclusive feature.
At most, MS may have a some kind of flag that the developer/publisher can set to enable this functionality. But ultimately, that's still a per-game thing. Unless you're saying MS should specifically make a TCR requirement to make it forbidden or something?
Polygon cites unnamed sources in reporting that the next Xbox will indeed support an Internet requirement, but publishers will be able to decide how it is used with regard to DRM on a per-game basis. According to the report, current Microsoft guidelines will allow publishers to choose between requiring a constant Internet connection, performing a one-time check when the game starts up, or simply not implementing any Internet-based DRM at all.
The information is from an internal memo. That's as close to "directly from Microsoft" as we're going to get.
You're concerned that the report has been fabricated or embellished. While that may or may not be true, the source of the information is absolute.
It isn't developer conjecture or publisher hearsay...it's direct, quotable information.
Nothing says fear more than a bowl of popcorn.
And I'm 99% sure the "always online" leak was true and MS changed it just recently because of all the backlash when word got out. Anyone giving MS the benefit of the doubt is just being foolish.
Today's "news" is not news. It's just a PR spin from Microsoft.
ahhaahah ...when i seen this photo the first time i laught hard ( is correct laught?)
No, it was already reported that always-on internet was going to be up to publishers. The rumor about it being enforced universally by the console was already debunked.

Says Ars. There's nothing in the article to prove that claim.

The point is, it's Microsoft's PR making that claim, as transmitted via a third-party source.
Whether or not this transmission is 100% accurate is irrelevant to the thread title.
"Rumors" are delegated to third-party hearsay or second-hand information---"I believe that... I heard that..."

What a thread.

I wanna hear the horse's mouth.

Lol what?
Yes please continue to give the company that keeps Netflex an Internet browser and Youtube behind pay walls.
Not seeing a PR release from Microsoft today about this subject.
