Last year and the years prior, I would just buy everything and then sell or trade it. With Amazon's incentives, I would often buy a 60 dollar game, Amazon would give me a 20 dollar off code for my next game purchase, I'd beat the game and then sell it on Amazon for 45-50 dollars used. They've since stopped almost all the really good pre-order deals, so I can't really justify the cost anymore. Mainly because I know I wont own the console that game is played on in less than a year. Redbox though has been a god-send. And it's free because I abuse...I mean use...the Bing Rewards program.

I don't know that you fall into this category, but there seems to be an irrational persecution complex among Sony enthusiasts on Gaf, and there are a lot of them, and it universally takes the form of lashing out at other gaming products in a way we don't necessarily see as boldly and commonly with enthusiasts of the other companies. For me at least, the library of digital titles is much more important than retail games. It's such a huge backlog of not only purchases, but potential purchases I would make if I suddenly had an open spot to play them. I understand that the technological challenge is no different between a game on a disc and a digital-only title, but it's unfortunate if both platforms are required to drop that backlog of content.

So your basically saying that because of a couple of games that are releasing on the PS3 literally within a month of the launch of the Next Box and PS4 that the PS4 deserves BC more.

First, I think it's extremely shortsighted to belive that BC has anything to do with the ol' exclusives argument. But, I won't knock your opinion as this may be the only games you care about.

I think people underestimate how huge BC will be if MS pulled it off.

First, the obvious is that milions and millions of core gamers frequent Live for more that a couple of exclusives. Even beyond the launch of Next gen gamers on Live are still going to be playing the last 4 Call of Duty games, Halo 4, Minecraft, Halo Reach, Battlefield 3, Gears of War: J and Gears of War 3, Fifa, 13 NBA 2K13 etc.

Believe me this is not going to stop even after the Next gen systems launch or because another console releases a couple of new games.

Secondly, it's going to be absolutely priceless for MS if gamers like me that have a ridiculously huge retail and XBLA collection of games to simply can move over to the Nextbox upload my account and games like we are all normally used to doing when we move on to a new Xbox.

Again, last gen it was only Halo 2 that us original launch 360 gamers layed with the OG Xbox friends. This time it's an entire generation of games both retail and XBLA.

Plus you have a slew of games coming for the 360 as well, that need to be playable on the Next Xbox.

I know I'm still going to want to play State of Decay, Lococycle, and Ascend: New Gods on my next gen Xbox.

I know if I buy Saint's Row IV, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, South Park: Stick of Truth, Lost Planet 3, Remember Me, Fuse, etc. I'm still going to want the option to play those as well.

Now Sony doesn't go that route that's cool for them, but if I could get BC and MS also announced that most games would get a facelift (like the 360 gave old Xbox games), then even Pachter would be a dumb sh1t not to take that offer.

Why would any 360 gamer who has a huge collection of retail games and XBLA games much of which is played over Live whith their friends list go to PC for Backwards compatability?

I get that Steam has mass amount of games but they don't have anywhere close to all of the biggest games on the 360. At the end of the day, if you buy your multi-plats for one console over the other, because of friends lists, achievments etc. your definately not going to go to PC either.

Regardless of the existence of the threads you are describing, if you truly frequent GAF the you can easily see, it is largely not the MS 'hardcore' user base that are the ones 'pissed' off.

I mean look at your examples. Why would a hardcore 360 gamer be pissed at Sony losing exclusive to the 360?

As a hardcore gamer I can easily show that Kinect didn't prevent any hardcore exclusives from releasing in any of it's 2 short years on the market. I can also point to Sony and the PS3 who released Move and the same exact amount of games for the PS3.

What imaginary momentum did MS lose? I look on the sales charts and the 360 is still as successful as it ever was. I look on the forums and I see fans of said consoles doing what they always do. I see the media like Kotaku doing what they always do. I see the biased bloggers doing what they always do.

And at the end of the day, when you log off nothing has happened. MS will promote their system just like Sony and it's going to be interesting when they speak for themselves.

CD has to be a next gen title at this point. I thought the leaked demo suggested it would be current gen, but with the complete lack of info, videos, etc, I'm starting to think they are reworking it for next gen/Kinect 2.0.

I 100% agree for the types of gamers in YOUR case that makes sense. BC for you is only worth it if a few games are coming within a couple of months and during the next gen launch.

I'm speaking from the perspective of the millions of hardcore 360 gamers that actually have a collection of Retail 360 games and XBLA that the play and frequent Xbox Live with their friends lists and play 360 gamers daily.

That why I know BC would be HUGE for MS if they pull it off, especially if it's native right out of the Next box. They pull it off and it will be a big reason they easily secure their hardcore fan base.

To be fair, State of Decay is also on PC, and BattleBlock Theater and Super T.I.M.E. Force are unlikely to stay exclusive to Xbox, but I agree. However, it's his opinion.

In my case, both would be welcome, Xbox 360 BC because I still have close to a hundred games I haven't played yet, and PS3 BC because then I wouldn't have to buy one.

You can buy them for whatever platform you want. I'm just saying that if your playing games on your preferred console and you could stay in that ecosystem next gen then that's a great incentive to upgrade to that next gen system.

If not your just going your likely going to still keep buying those games on your preferred system and you may or may not upgrade to next gen immediately.

I get multi-plats are on PC, but this isn't part of the BC convo if your not a PC gamer.

And when you're all set you should sign in to Xbox live and play all of our third party games! An internet connection is required for that feature of the box to be available."

That'd be funny.

Even funnier is not realizing that the only other option is rebuying and streaming games through a cloud system that has to always be online as well.

I 100% agree for the types of gamers in YOUR case that makes sense. BC for you is only worth it if a few games are coming within a couple of months and during the next gen launch.

I'm speaking from the perspective of the millions of hardcore 360 gamers that actually have a collection of Retail 360 games and XBLA that the play and frequent Xbox Live with their friends lists and play 360 gamers daily.

That why I know BC would be HUGE for MS if they pull it off, especially if it's native right out of the Next box. They pull it off and it will be a big reason they easily secure their hardcore fan base.

It'd be huge for me because of my large XBLA library which I regularly revisit. Those games tend to be somewhat more evergreen than retail games, as such BC would really be a massive benefit. But every single time I say this, I get shot down with 'just keep your 360'. As if there's not some obvious massive convenience in not having to keep my 360 connected to my TV.

I'm with 100% with you. I bought my 360 at launch and have amassed a ridiculous amount of games that it doesn't make sense. But, just like you I have games that I love from XBLA that I play when I'm simply in the mood. It's the same for retail, if I feel like jumping back to a title to play with a bunch of friends I do it.

The other unsung here is achievements. There are games I plan on coming back to for fun, but I know I'll get achievements out of them as well.

Not to mention all those games I've always wanted to play, but haven't purchased yet.

You got millions and millions of 360 gamers that aren't going to got Next gen at first. They will wait a year or two to jump in. You also have Next gen gamers who KEPT their Xbox the first year or two.

In both cases, you now have the rumored Xbox mini that is 10 to 20 dollars less than it was at the Nextbox launch. But, it's still worth it for those gamers who want to keep their retail and XBLA collection.
