I don't get it. What is this?

EDIT: ... Yeah.

The funny thing is I'm mainly interested in the controller, since it's presumably what we will want to plug into our PCs at the end of this year. The affinity between Xbox and Windows is one reason why I think the speculation, which is that the controller will not undergo any major changes, is true. It has more incentive to be backwards compatible than the Dual Shock. I mostly welcome this because I'm pretty cynical about the DS4's touchpad, and would not invite touch-based controls into my games in general unless I ever have an experience that shows me it can be as precise/useful as buttons.

Infamous Second Son devs seem like they understand that it's not a very precise tool, and they're only using it for things like when you want to make your character do a fingerprint scan, then you actually put your finger on the pad.

That's a screencap of the UNSC Infinity from Halo 4.

Back when it was revealed too, there were Xbox Infinity rumours swirling. Didn't think there was a connection then, still don't think so.

Oooh, the Xbox part is not part of the original picture. I hope they chose a name that sounds higher than 4 (the reason for 360) but that's also easy to identify and pronounce, like Kinect.

The finger scanning is cool, but I have a feeling it's going to quickly go the way of the sixaxis. Forced into early games, totally forgotten later in the console's life. At least in games. I could see it being useful for the UI/OS.

That is awful box art layout. It looks like two stickers are wrapped around the spine of the case. I like the white with green swipe at the top a lot better.

Also, I hope they keep using DVD cases like Nintendo does for the Wii U.

Eh, I dunno. Could be useful as a second "interact" button that does something different.

EDIT: or even the ONLY interact button. Free up some space.

I like it just because it's less intrusive but I agree it isn't the best design.

Finally, the hype train has taken off for the reveal. Xbox Infinity sounds so cool, and that Halo 4 ship font looks ace. Hope this console reveal is as revolutionary as the 360 one. Before the PS4 reveal I watched the current gen reveals like the 360 one, and it seemed so ahead of its time. They made it sound like a utopia, and it delivered.

I hope they keep DVD cases too, but I wonder if they'll go with green Blu-Ray cases or something.

Also, I think next gen we won't be seeing XBL or Kinect-specific identifiers on box art. Everything will support both Kinect and XBL because they are core features of the console no matter what.

I like box arts that are minimalistic, but that just looks like someone glued a sticker to the cover.

I would like to be able to line up my Xbox, 360 and Durango games and have them all line up, Nintendo did the same with Gamecube, Wii and Wii U. It looks great on my shelf.

I hate how Sony went with different cases for PS 1,2,3. Hell, they even had two different kind of cases for PlayStation 1.

A minimalistic style just doesn't work on gaming consoles. They are Toys first and foremost, they need to be clear on what they do (Showing the console on the box, full name, show some games stuff), you can't just have a freaking silhouette and expect John Peter to guess what's the product you are selling.

Touchpad is useful for iOS type games, content creation, and UI browsing.

I hope the 720 pad has one.

Yeah actually, point taken. It could still have that and continue to be awesome as a standard controller (which means you could still use it easily play all the ports we got from the previous gen). A touch device similar to the DS4 seems like it would work well with the direction they've gone with Win8. Maybe we could use it to navigate Metro?

You guys think that this
infinityo1xzb.png
and Halo ship name are coincidence ?
It is even green and has X in circle shape over letter "i".
It was a sign ! :P
Picture is from Gears of War 3 cutscene.
I think I'm starting to get hyped.
