Why are people so happy when a big company in the industry is having touble, be it Nintendo, Sony, MS, Square, etc?
It only means less games, less jobs, less ideas, less competition, less variety...
Every one loses, really.
Nintendo need to be taken down a notch, let's see what happened since wii released:
-'sorry core gamers you are no longer the target audience'
-'we priced the 3ds at 350 euros because we think people will pay the premium'
Add to that 3 years of ear grating 'casual is the future time to move on from core gaming' coming from the rest of the industry as they chanted 'ME TOO, ME TOO'
And wii spawned that shitty kinect, stick waggle and even caused sony to give eye toy a second spin. Suddenly the idea arose that games need to be for EVERYONE and that the word niche is a dirty word.
So much damage caused, based on greed by the industry and an arrogant, cynical nintendo.
Having learned what a fad is and how fickle the casual gamer is (they moved on a long time ago) they'll hopefully learn not to take their original audience for granted.
Only good can come from this for gamers.
Add to that the 30 fps games, hardlocks, slow OS , scaling, screentearing and other garbage that wipes its ass with the concept of 'nintendo seal of quality' , that needed some consequences too.
Before the wii U launched I thought nintendo was above that. Wii may have been a shitty gamecube 1.5 but at least it had a lot of 60 fps games and didn't rely on patches to fix broken half finished releases like ps3/xbox360 do.
Hopefully nintendo will try harder next time and re learn the concepts of brand name, consumer loyalty and value and just focus on making good games for an audience that will actually stick around instead of a quick cash grab by producing junk for the fickle non gamer.
(I can't wait for the vile replies to my opinion)
