Xbox Reveal Thread: Durango Unchained

If I'm watching NFL on my XboxOne, odds are my laptop and phone are right beside me, where I can already check my fantasy teams.....

I cannot believe MS thinks this is a system selling feature....

What did everyone expected? Am I the only one who read the leaked files about their next gen system?

No, everyone knew what the focus would be, this is a confirmation that they just didn´t change their plans over the last two years.

Props for the leaks, they were spot on.

So is the name a reference to the number of interesting games?

E3 is still likely going to be the deciding factor for me on which console I get this holiday.

We're going to see the exclusive games on the One, we're going to see some more PS4 exclusive games; we'll get a picture of what Sony is doing compared to Microsoft in terms of used games and online subs., and we'll get to see Sony's OS for the PS4 as well.

This E3 is going to be one of the biggest of all time. It's make or break it time. I really love everything I've seen about the OS and features of the One, but I still need to see as much of the full picture of I can at E3.

What are the specs like compared to the PS4? (Please don't editorialize.) Can someone explain it to a layman?
So far they look exactly like the romours told us. Nothing changed. That means it's likely weaker than a PS4 (to offset the price of build in Kinect probably).

This is a dumb question, because I know it doesn't really work like this, but is it like comparable to what the PS2 was to the Xbox, or like the 360 was to the PS3 or what?

It was just so odd that the things MS mocked Sonys conference for, bar showing the box, they did themselves far worse

Knowing Sonys conference, its response and having a month to prep, they should have smashed this. As such, it was terrible as a gamer.

They brought 343 to talk Halo...the TV show?

As someone who has only played on 360 out of the two consoles this gen, and was looking forward to what Microsoft would show, at this point I'm considering not getting any consoles. There will be exclusives i might want so i may end up getting one of them but at this point there is nothing that has convinced me it's worth getting:

1. A completely lack of backwards compatibility, which would include arcade games, means that when my 360 does stop working completely i will have no way to play any of my games without buying another one, even if i get a next-gen console.
2. Mandatory game installs - i like having discs, i don't like digital or having to install games. So far it's only been shown with 500GB which means at 10GB+ a game it's going to be filled pretty fast.
3. used games fee - can't rent games, can't borrow games from anyone, can't even let the rest of the family play them if they have a different account. The benefit of buying used is gone unless the game is something like half price.

The show was just pretty much just social and sports stuff. I don't want a Kinect because i have no where to put it. They kept going on about it being this awesome thing for your living room...i don't have my 360 in the living room because most of the time there are other people in there doing stuff. Me and my brother are the only ones that use the 360 (parents don't) so half the new stuff is pointless. If i want something like Skype i have a PC for that, I don't really have any friends to use the social features with but that is besides the point. Quite a few of the things are only going to be available in the US as well, which means they mean nothing to me as I'm not in the US. I don't care about sports either.

Microsoft going for a media-hub instead of a gaming-console has ruined it for me.

I didn't have high hopes for this thing at all, but honestly didn't think it would be this bad. Were they actively trying to make me as least interested in their system as possible? Terrrrrrrible, all of it.

Microsoft, I really REALLY wanted you to show me something cool and new and exciting and invigorating, something that would make me want to buy back into consoles again.
This really wasn't it.

I don't have a smartglass capable device.
I don't want any kinect stuff.
I don't like paying for services that should be free.
Used game blocking/obstacles are a really nasty anti consumer move.
We don't live in Merrica so all the integrated TV stuff will never even function, plus we don't have a tv license anyway.
I have a gaming pc hooked up to my tv.
I have a phone and a Vita to do internet stuff while the tv is occupied.

On the other hand, darn that is the best looking console I have seen since I can't even remember. I like hardware that looks like it is worth the amount of money it costs.

I sold my console over a year ago to pay towards my gaming rig, seems like I got out at a good time.
I am guessing Sony and Steam are going to see a large uptake in subscribers.

Does this seem reasonable to most other people here on Gaf?

*This is my personal feelings on the subject, and not a post to cause arguing or anger, only good natured discussion, it is merely an observation that it seems unlikely that Microsoft could persuade me to buy a One, even though I gamed singularly on an Xbox 360 for the entirety of this generation, and enjoy some of the exclusives.

I actually think the box and the new kinect looks good.

I do not believe this second screen experience that they're making such a big fuss about really fits on the big screen next to the TV/Game.

I think the second screen experience is something people already are having - but with laptops and tablets in their lap. And it fits a lot better there.

And while I think sports is really boring, both on TV or in game, I really wanted them to tell me this amazing thing they were doing with NFL games - but they didn't, did they? It's like the EA partnership - they told us there was something - but not what it was.

I cannot believe MS thinks this is a system selling feature....

For young adult males that live with their parents this is most definitely a feature. I still think that young adult males are still the primary market for video games in general. As much as the industry is trying to broaden the market it is still a market dominated by selling a product to middle class children.

Mom and Dad buy Johnny an Xbox One. Johnny plays videogames and sits on his laptop all day in the basement. Dad comes downstairs to watch football with his son. Son shows dad the cool fantasy football features of the console. Dad thinks videogame console he bought for son his cool. Dad tells his coworkers about the fantasy football box that has fun sports games.

Man, the negativity here is the polar opposite of the Xbox 360 reveal...

Oh, wait, didn't people call it, "Xbox 1.5".

Yeah. It's about the same ;)

I'm still amazed about the "no games" stuff myself. It was said numerous times that the games would be at E3, and the fact that they said there are 15 exclusives planned for year one, 8 new IP's, is exciting in itself.

Even if those games don't all make the one year mark, it shows the right direction in bringing new exclusives.

anyone else notice that the kinect sensors STILL dont detect fingers. They conveniently only had footage of people doing things with closed fists and standing up. Its the same shit guys.

I'm now even more intrigued about thier first party content. They're releasing what 8 exclusives in the next year. So again we will have answers at E3 I'm thinking.

Seemed like their focus was more on sports and television than it was on games. Also for the techies out there. The hardware specs they showed, how does it compare to PS4?

I plan on buying the most powerful console for my games ..

Wait--did they show kinetic games? I ask because you lumped it in the negative, and the stream did cut out a couple times.
Also, they butchered their ips how?

I don't see how claiming the negativity of Kinect is related to seeing Kinect games at all. Kinect isn't inexpensive and it will be reflected in the cost of the system, people with no interest will not be excluded from this. I am not fundamentally against innovative control schemes, I feel it is one of the most important aspects when it comes to improving the gaming experience. Kinect however, has failed to do this and I hold incredible doubts as to increased accuracy will serve to deliver anything different. Sure you could argue it serves to enhance the general Xbox experience, but why does it have to be mandatory?

We are yet again seeing another Forza this year. Stagnation is readily apparent in the decreasing sales the series has held since game three. This would have been a perfect opportunity to give the IP a break while reintroducing the incredibly popular PGR series, Microsoft haven't done this and things will likely get worse.

And what more can I say about Halo, they have introducing someone renowned for ruining prominent IP's into the series' fold. Forward Unto Dawn was not very good, there is no reason to believe the TV series won't worse. Things have been continually getting worse and worse for what was my favourite IP, right since Halo ODST. It is overwhelmingly apparent that incompetent Microsoft will send it further down this path.

Wow, the impotent fanboy rage is pretty strong with this one :)

To people decrying its looks: im curious. its a smooth black box, what did you expect, exactly? Rims? Honestly, how is it radically different from the 360 slim, PS2, or the like? Need more big chrome buttons?

They spent way too long on the non gaming features. But, to their credit, they stated outright that they were saving the big reveals and such for E3 (and they damn well need to be, because i promise you Sony has an avalanche planned).

The sad truth is, leading up to EVERY one of these reveals, people work themselves into a fervor expecting they are going to see some manner of earth shattering exclusive announcement. To date, I argue that as far as actual games go, I have yet to see anything of the sort (be it wiiu, ps4, and now xbox1). It seems fated that people invariably create some of the most unbelievable expectations for themselves.

In short, I'd save my curb kicking and magazine-rack-overturning for E3.

I think the conference compares very poorly to Ps4s conference. At least when aimed at the NeoGAF audience. In general, while of course GAF wasn't ALL thrilled with Sonys reveal, there was a much higher amount of people who had an overall positive experience with the event.

Sony did show some new IPs, they showed some old games 'upgraded' and in general, the extra features they talked about revolved around video games. Even the games they did show seemed to appeal to my (and I am assuming a lot of GAFs) tastes. Action adventure vs Sports.

Basically, I'm usually in the same boat where I would think that people are building up ridiculous expectations and are being silly for being disappointed - but coming in right after the last 'next-gen' console reveal, this is stale, and irrelevant to my interests. If these conferences are supposed to get people excited and interested, this one failed horribly at that - with me at least.

When they only announce one, we really don't know what the 8 games are. Kinect Adventures? Kinect Sports? Or are they real full-fledged game experiences. The failure to give any more information besides "we have games coming!" is strange for a game console reveal.

I like Remedy's new game already, and the Halo tv-show sounds good, but everything else... meh. Then almost every negative rumour seems true, and I really don't have a reason to buy this console. Let's hope E3 can change that sentiment with some awesome games.

The 8 New Ip is impossible to tell. Obviously there will be 1-3 Kinect focused games in that bunch at least.

The 7 others are probably easy to call. Forza, Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports, If they were smart they'd make another fucking Viva Pinata game.

The conference was completely what I expected, and for that It was pretty good. We all know that they held back games until E3; so we should all be waiting until E3 before passing final judgement on any of the systems

Of course it's the same shit. Isn't that the whole point of everything made by the tech giants. It's a big scam to sell the same old shit to middle class parents and their children every year in an attempt to convince them that their purchasing power creates happiness and fulfillment. Duh.

MOM and DAD BUY ME A SUPER NINTENDO
MOM and DAD BUY ME AN iPHONE
MOM and DAD BUY ME AN HD TV
MOM and DAD BUY ME GOOGLE GLASSES

If you think that the point of these conferences is to do anything other than scam people out of their money you are clearly delusional.

15 planned, 8 new IP.

I for one can't blame gamers for being disappointed. When we see some games we'll get duly excited.

Promises are nice. We should hold these 'geniuses' to the highest degree possible. Today's pitch was dreadful from a gaming perspective.

Everyone I know who watches live sports uses their smartphones to tweet/check stats/etc. I just don't see how occupying the part of a screen with something else is a better solution.

Because it wasn't focused on the gaming perspective. It was an hour long event focused about OS and features, with some specifics about games and TV mixed in.

E3 will be more interesting for people on forums and stuff. This was just a very broad explanation of what those games will run on, and how this will appeal to people who are interested in more than just games.

Seriously though. When they START the conference by saying, "we are here to talk about features of the hardware in relation to all of your entertainment needs, and we are saving the game stuff for e3, surprises and new ips", how do you then run screaming into the thread lamenting how you've been mislead because they spent 40 minutes talking about tv, Skype, live, kinect, sports, etc?

In retrospect, it means that they're NOT going to waste the majority of the E3 press conference talking about that shit? Conceivably? So I encourage both the jaded fanboys, and the miscreants spreading their FUD, wait until the real press conferences.
The fact that there are so many negative comments might say something about this 2-part conference strategy of Microsoft.

E3 is now more about damage control than about showing a huge excited audience what they're going to get.

Not in the slightest.

Games aside, shouldn't Microsoft have, when showing all these features, detailed how they will operate with your cable provider? Will it be behind a paywall? Spoke in less generalities?

Seems like a bait-and-switch if they show these great things and then find it's behind a paywall.

But maybe that's par for the course among all big publishers like this, as I'm not familiar with the previous console launches.
