What can Microsoft announce at E3 to turn it around?

MS clearly stated they don't want me to buy X1. I might be very tempted by games, time will show, but as MS don't want me on board, it would be smart move of them not to tempt me with games also, no?

I'm sorry to say that won't work for Wii U or Xbox One IMO. Microsoft made a terrible move with the Xbox One being underpowered compared to the PS4. If the Xbox One had a 7970 in it, maybe the DRM and other "setbacks" could be forgiven, but it doesn't.

So you can't make cool new games with lower specs? WTF?!

With what MS wants to implement, you can't do it without much higher specs, and even that isn't going to help them. The damage is done and they should cede this gen to whoever while continuing on with their vision. Nintendo will do the same so they won't be the only one.

This is not just something like "MS didn't show any games at the reveal!" It's a little more serious with the blocking used games and requiring a internet connection to function as intended. If games are what MS need to show then they need to be some pretty fucking good games.

Microsoft doubles down on Xbox One games, plans to invest $1 billion

There are some concerns about gaming on the next-generation Xbox One. The system doesn’t allow independent developers to self-publish games on Xbox Live Arcade and Microsoft’s used game policy is still unclear. The company did confirm that it has big plans for its in-house gaming studio, however. Phil Harrison, a corporate vice president at Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, revealed in an interview with VentureBeat that Microsoft is investing heavily in the gaming experience for the Xbox One. The executive noted that the company is planning to invest more than $1 billion for new content, including 15 internally developed titles in the coming year, eight of which will be brand new. The Xbox One is expected to help breath new life into the struggling gaming industry when it is released later this year.

A lot of money to invest if you have no interest in the gamer.

Has a thread been made for this?

lol pure fanfiction.

Aint no fanfiction there. For years MS has been battling the philosophy of the "I don't pay to play online" crowd, and as of this point they're losing the battle against the "consumer rights gamer." As someone who preferred the 360 this gen and wasn't that put off the Xbox One reveal, they are losing the perception battle. "Show us games" is not going to help when somebody has philosophical difference with your business model, otherwise the Wii U could be saved and everyone will forget this if Microsoft shows games, but MS always has a dagger of mistrust hanging over their heads and they have done very little to dispel it.

There's nothing they can do at E3 to win be back .. i can't accept a DRM infested machine that has shockingly low specs on top.
I'm done with them .
But to not sound too negative , there's a few things that could do something :
-Scrap everything and release next year
or
-Get rid of the restrictions and price it at $250 , that's about what i would price the Xbone .

The background from that Rare game looks like Avatar. The big one is either Quantum Break (the lighting resembles Alan Wake) or the Black Tusk game. Most interesting for me is the one on the top right. Looks like a stylized game, sort of like Limbo. A knight fighting darkness. Then we have Crackdown 3, Forza 5 and Halo 5.

They can announce everything about the Xbox One was a joke and show us the real console. That's about it.

Shenmue 3 and I'll buy one. I'll unplug it when I'm done.

MS says they have 15 exclusives currently working in progress. That's about 5 minutes per each demonstration (with Kinect being longer). That's more than the average E3 press-conference so I'm guessing most of which will have pre-rendered or worse CG trailers and only focusing on the AAA hits. Nevermind the other 3rd party games being showcased which isn't exactly promising considering this horrible reveal. All I want from this conference are clarifications on their policies which is bullshit considering it's preferable to view games instead.

EDIT:

At E3 they will announce a "Xbox Mini", it will use the HDMI In that layers the 360 games.
For you backwards compatibility people.

HOLY SHIT, IS THAT REAL?

If it was real do you think it would be in someone's kitchen?

If they show some willingness to cede that some of their policies are very draconian.

All it takes is a few policy changes to make me give a damn about Next Gen.

I can't see them turning this around at E3. They f upped royally. There is just so much wrong it's actually quite funny.

Clarification on policies WRT to used/rental games, is some of the cloud functionality behind a paywall? When is the TV stuff going to roll out to me in the UK? I know ahowing games is what we want but if some of the anti consumer policies are not cleared up or exist it wouldnt matter to me what games they show. How long is their E3 this year an hour? 90 mins? or dont we know yet.

As a side note i think Sony will announce some of the same restrictions MS has but wont get the backlash as it will be seen as them just doing what MS do (hope not though)

Halo 2 multiplayer redone for xbox one and we would see a complete flip flop from the complainers

If Sony announce the same shit, they can also fuck right off.

i wouldnt be surprised if it had the used game restriction..they just wont comment and it will get blown under the rug

Nothing... They've showed their hand and I will not support those business practices. Especially when I don't really care for their first party games anyway.

Games that look better than 360 games. They do this and they will sell millions in the first month.

That is all.

I am ok with the industry friendly policies MS and Sony will put in place this gen and I think the VAST majority of gamers could care less.

Killier Instinct and mirrors edge 2 for hardcore gamers

respawns ip for dude bros.

and thats basically all they need to do and its pretty likely thats how its going down

I like the way they teased their games using this. The top small one looks interesting. I think the one below it is Ryse or Fable 4. Then below that some new Rare game. On the left there is Crackdown 3, Forza 5 and Halo 5. No idea about the third from the left. Maybe some smaller DL title.

Remove the 24th hour online which is a start.
Remove the fee bullshit on renting or borrowing a game disc.

If neither of those gets addressed, then it really doesn't matter what game exclusives they get at that point.

Something is not adding up about this machine. With the 360, the strategy was to partner with third parties and shut down studios. With the Xbox One, the strategy is to spend 1 billion dollars (which I still think is a dubious number) and open up studios. I think what we're likely seeing is that a lot of third parties are not wanting to hitch their cart to one console because the cost of development is skyrocketing, especially early on in the generation. In the end, Microsoft will have no choice buy to throw massive amounts of money at certain third parties and to make games of their own. But, to be honest, who has faith in Microsoft's first or second party games? I certainly don't.

No console with encrypted internals that requires a camera and mic be connected at all times with an Internet connection every 24 hours is going anywhere near my house.

For me personally, it is too late for Microsoft. There is absolutely nothing they can do to turn the X1 around in my eyes. Even if they allow used games w/o a fee, remove the 24-hour online check, and make Kinect optional...so what, no sale from me. The damage is done and it is beyond repair. Their overall vision is clear, and it doesn't appeal to me.

Also, PS4 has done almost everything right so far, and since I prefer to stick to one console + PC for this cycle...the Xbox One will get left out in the cold.

It is coming from Sony my friend. They are gambling here, E3 is going to be ruthless for them.
