What can Microsoft announce at E3 to turn it around?

So what your telling me is you depend on a bunch of random people to secure your phone.

And my own judgment, yes - I have more trust in them and myself than Microsoft, that's for sure.

See where I am going with this. They can have anything running on your phone and you wouldn't even know it. But you still have one and you still use it because even though they could be taping you , it doesn't actually matter to you.

Who are you to judge my knowledge about software engineering and network communications?
Who are you to tell me what matters to me?

Today TMZ broke a story that the LA police were able to figure out who owned a red car by using a network of privately owned and run cameras that are plastered all over the city.

Your still going to go outside tomorrow and do all the things you normaly will.

IF someone is really that interested in watching me sit in boxers and Crackdown 3 while eating popcorn they will find a way

Why not let them put a camera directly into your living room to make things easier? Oh wait...

And I'm off to bed now - if you have any more insights into my lifestyle I'll adress them tomorrow.

Personally...

- offline mode (like Steam)
- low price ($350)
- decent exclusives
- practical uses for Kinect

But I'm also interested in hearing Sony's plan for how they'll manage their game installs & DRM.

They need to have more clear-cut answers to our pressing questions dealing with the online connection, used games, games being tied to your profile, etc. Figure out what the heck you're doing with this console, Microsoft. Oh, and a solid amount of actual exclusive games.

For me:

Tell me I can unplug Kinect and throw it in the closet or garbage.
Tell me I can sell MY games that I purchased with MY money.
Show games I've been wanting: Conker 2, Killer Instinct III, MechAssault 3, Crimson Skies 2.
Show awesome new IP's.

I don't like the online DRM or blocking used game shit, but it's the Kinect shit I really hate. I will not have the console, if that big brother shit doesn't fuck off. I don't want to navigate with Kinect. I don't want to play Kinect games. Stop taking my choices away from me or I'll choose to avoid your console.

It's incredible how the answer is not games right now... holy shit.

They need to stop the anti-consumer bullshit AND show games. But the first would be much better for them right now. Nothing but negative vision from most of the press.

And my own judgment, yes - I have more trust in them and myself than Microsoft, that's for sure.

Your on a discussion forum perhaps you shouldn't be in a discussion forum if you don't want someone to discuss your posts.

Halo 5 trailer
Call of Duty Ghost gameplay (not for GAF but for bro gamer market)
Killer Instinct trailer/gameplay
Banjo Threeie trailer/gameplay
Final Fantasy Vs 13 trailer/gameplay
2-3 New IPs that aren't kinect focused

Do that and GAF will do a 360

Indeed, they will end up in the same place after getting excited once they realize none of the policies they hated are getting changed.

Since I can't start a new thread, I thought I would stick this here.(long read I know, but worth it.)

Dear Microsoft

I am what you would consider a lifelong gamer. My first game machine was a Commodore 64, then up to a Commodore 128. When the NES started building a robust library, I switched over to consoles. Turbografx 16, SNES, N64, and finally Dreamcast (and I still have them all minus the T16 which was stolen). Even though I kept a foot in the console world, I was evolving into a PC gamer. Our first computer was a 486 running win 3.1. I quickly grew to love the pc gamer lifestyle. I bought Win 95 the day of release, and played some great games over the years. Phantasmagoria, 7th guest, 11th hour, MYST, Sim City, Redneck Rampage, DOOM, and of course Quake. At that point I was a full time pc gamer. As soon as I could get cable internet, I took off work and had in installed. Even set up an old pc to run as a server for clan practices. I couldn’t even imagine returning to consoles at that point, especially since the ps2 hype machine had pretty much killed the Dreamcast. Then one Saturday morning in November, I saw a commercial for the greatest game I had ever witnessed, Halo. It was the xbox launch weekend and I immediately went searching for a console to call my own. I must have watched the Halo menu for 10 minutes before I even started the game.

Since that time, I have remained even more loyal to the MS family. Windows phone 6, 7, and even 8. I have a launch brown 30 gig zune. I currently have 2 Win 7 laptops, 3 xbox 360’s, 2 Kinects. Hell, I even bought stock in MS when it was at its lowest because I believed in the vision MS was selling for the future for unifying all its platforms and the living room. In fact, I am single handedly responsible for at least a dozen friends and family buying 360’s due to my recommendation or by letting them play my console. Not to mention all the games and live subscriptions they ended up buying. If this were Mary Kay MS, you would owe me a pink Cadillac.

I was very excited leading up to the new Xbox reveal. I was convinced there was no way that MS would alienate the user base that made them what they are. The 360 is the only product you have on the market that has resonated well with the 20 to 30 something crowd. Boy was I wrong. Do you know what makes the 360 amazing? Great games, top tier graphics, and a good price. I like how it is a game machine first, that also has a great list of secondary options that compliment the system without taking anything away.

Now, here is your problem MS. I am your target audience. Mid 30’s, have high speed internet, disposable income, numerous high def devices, and love playing games online. But I have zero interest in the Xbox one. I can deal with games taking a back seat to gimmicky voice controls. I can deal with having to install games. Know what I can’t deal with? Not owning my games anymore. If you’ve been paying attention, you will remember that I still own all my old consoles that I can hook up and play ANYTIME I WANT. Even my 26 year old NES. I currently have 30 plus games for the 360. But what is going to happen in 10 years when you decide that you want me to move on to the Xbox tooie and shut down the servers for Xbox one? Should I just #dealwithit? Or how about every year when my family goes on vacation to South Carolina and I bring my xbox to clear out my backlog? Oh, btw, the reason I bring my xbox is because there is no f’in internet to watch movies or surf the web. So the only other activity we have is video games.

It’s a shame really. You were poised to take over the console space with the new xbox. Unfortunately, I don’t know what path you plan on taking over the course of the next 5 years, and I don't think you do either. But I do know that I won’t be able to tag along for the ride. Not this time old friend. Luckily there is a huge library of used games for the 360, and when my 2 year old is ready for games, the 360 will suit him just fine for many years to come.

Sincerely

Retired Console gamer

Hi this is Microsoft we just wanted to let you know we're very touched by your story and hope you get Internet in South Carolina ASAP.

Looking at the specs of the two consoles, to me it seems like the PS4 will have a significant advantage for multi-platform titles. So for me to truly consider an Xbox One, it would take the following things:
  • Removing the always online/no used games/DRM bullshit
  • A number of very compelling exclusives that outshine the PS4 exclusives shown
  • A reasonably significant price advantage
  • An obvious, unwavering commitment to hardcore gaming going forward

They will have moneyhats a plenty.

EA/Respawn game.
Something from Ubi if I had to guess.
Maybe a Japanese game. Kojima or Capcom.
Exclusive DLC for a bunch of other EA games.
Maybe Read Dead Next is announced with exclusive DLC?
That rumoured exclusive Insomniac game.

I am trying to think what other potential gets are still up in the air.

Something from Valve?
"Console Exclusive" Occulus Rift support?

At this stage is not really about the games for me, they would need to:

Remove the always online
Remove the no used games ugly thingy
And stop thinking i am silly with the "power of the cloud" nonsense

:(

No, Bungie made the xbox & now they are backing sony.
Plus MS has really no exclusives now that Halo & Gears are dead.

They have 13 out of 15 exclusives still to show. That is a stunning number, if you end up with say 8 solid games out of that batch that is an amazing first year of games.

A significantly cheaper, or better "gaming-only" version.

-No Kinect
-No no performance wasting TV or Skype crap
-Focused on games, possibly better hardware.

- Remove Used Game Block
- Remove Always-Online System
- Announce New & Exciting IP
- Announce Xbox Live Streaming Games Service

- Price it 100 dollars cheaper than PS4

Psychonauts 2
Brutal Legend 2
Monkey Island 3
Mother 4
FZero
Mirror Edge 2
Alan Wake 2
Exclusive From Software Game ala Dark Souls
Exclusive Platinum Games game

Will they have any of them? NO

I am obliged to ask... Why are you retiring from console gaming rather than switching game console companies. You are a true loyalist that's what it smacks of.

Unless they drop their attitude of "anti consumerism", not very likely. This photo pretty much summarized what direction they're heading.

That's the face of a man not knowing what a game console is suppose to be about, and probably never touched a game in his life. Yet here he is....

15 exclusives. 8 of which are new IPs.
Whatever else they got wrong, that is pretty huge.
Imagine if for every established franchise, Nintendo announced it had a new IP coming?

Well, this requires a list of third-party moneyhats:

-Persona 5
-Battlefront 3
-Arkham City Sequel
-Dark Souls 2
-Next-gen Saints Row
-Witcher 3

Get all of this exclusive, and I'll buy your shitty set top box. But good luck with pulling this off.

* No Gold fee required for peer to peer multiplayer, day one demos, or apps. Gold is shifted around to provide a collection of services instead (clan integration & ladders, unlimited friends list size, extra storage, dedicated servers, an ad-free environment, etc).

* Full offline mode supporting playback of games on disk. Diskless playback requires internet connection at install and/or deauthorization. No 24 hour phone-home.

I agree with these two. I probably should add that MS should also go the PSPlus route and entice gamers into a Gold membership with free games that are rotated on a monthly basis.

As for used games, they should do it like this. If you're the first person to buy it, you should be able to use it diskless, no problem. If it's used, and you want to use it diskless, then make the used game fee reasonable, like no more than $20. Don't want to pay up? Fine, but then it'll work like installed games on the current 360, where the disk is needed for authentication so it knows that you're not doing anything funny.

If it's done properly, then this should nullify the 24-hour ping as well.

EDIT: Also, mend fences with indie developers. If that's going to be a major problem, do something about it. Letting devs self-publish would be a good start. That was the reason why I went with the PSN version of Pinball Arcade over the XBLA version- due to the XBLA version's publisher going bankrupt, it hasn't had an update in a year, while the self-published PSN version has regular updates almost on par with the other versions. That, and it gives me a reason to use my PS Vita. But mostly because of the updates.

The cereal has already been pissed in for me. There is no winning me back with a fresh bowl. Even if they did change some of these policies, the damage control, sugar-coated answers and dancing around the hard questions like a guilty criminal lying his ass off does not make me want to run out and give them my money. I don't care what games they show.

They'll show a 30 second CGI teaster trailer of Halo 5 and a logo for Killer Instinct 3 and I'll come on here and see everyone creaming over it and confirming their day one purchases so it's not going to take a whole lot.

id be happy if they make kinect an accessory again instead of forcing it on us. theres already a game which forces me to buy one, sigh.. cant really skip a remedy game

A pretty big price advantage would probably let them pull it off (like, $100+ less than the PS4, and new release games at like $30-$40) but i'd be shocked if that happened.

Do you get excited about sales?

Crackdown, Viva Pinata, etc.

Oh, yeah, and all the new ones.

I don't get excited about 60$ games on sale for 40$

I never got to play Crackdown or Viva Pinata, but i'm sure there are other games that do the same thing on other platforms.

I really don't understand this blind faith in MS dev teams to make these amazing games. If 343 can't make a halo game with a blank check, then how are these lesser team really going to cut it.

Absolutely nothing, short of revoking the policies we know about. As is, it could have the next Smash Bros for all I care, still wouldn't buy it.

Mattrick is an old school programer. He shipped his first game in 1982, which I am going to guess is before your time. You can criticize the man for many things, but he knows games.
