I love this but I don't give a damn about this game. :(

Is there a story mode in this game? I just want to get it, finish it, get out. I need to complete every FF there is, and it would be a pain if this didn't have a certain goal to it.

Yes there is. But make sure you come back after every expansion pack because there will be new stories and they'll prolly be better.

FFXI's best story, one that competes with the other offline FFs, was Chains of Promathia which was the third expansion pack.

There are 3 interconnected 'main stories', battle against the primals hurting the planet, battle against the Garlean invasion, and story surrounding the mother crystal and the warriors of light. That is the "Launch" story, but here is the thing... by their very nature MMO's are never 'complete' when launched, and neither are their stories. They will continue to expand with each update, new stories will come with new content or new expansions. So yes there will be a story for you take as you level up your character on the way to level 50. There will be lots of other side stories like the class and job quests associated with classes you level, there will be dungeon quests that tell a story the first time or two you do them. Alongside this lots of small side quest stories you participate in while leveling.

The problem is I can't guarantee that the 3 main stories will be close to concluded when the game launches, in fact I would easily bet a large sum of money if I was a betting man that the story won't even be halfway implemented at launch. Yoshida mentioned the Garlean story probably won't even be fully concluded until just before the first expansion as its about repelling their invasion. There is also lots of background stories that Yoshida claimed won't be implemented at launch that many 1.0 players have been asking about since the very first beta of the game (opening of the Ishgard and surrounding content associated with it). So yes it will have a 'story mode' but you can't just jump in and jump out at launch, its structured for you to sit around for the long haul and just enjoy the game morphing over time.

I'm going to have to do everything in my power to prevent myself from buying into the hype and getting another MMO I don't have time for at launch.

I hope they fixed this properly, though. I want a game named Final Fantasy XIV to be respectable.

Only way to find out is to buy it

Do it man

It is pretty dumb they're dropping it at the end of summer rather than the beginning..

I am so ready to go to my local store and pre-order the LE but GameStop still doesn't have the LE listed. Damn it.

The game is not ready. Did you know that?

I just hope that the game will be ready in 3 months.

No, I didn't know that. I thought the game was 100% complete and ready to ship yesterday. Darn.

I thought late August was kinda early myself.

I figured they'd add another month to the release as an extra safe "are we completely sure this time" measure.

No, what is pretty dumb is releasing before the game is ready to be released.

Didnt exactly work out for them the first time around.

Lol, my comment wasn't to imply that they should say fuck it and get it out the door before it's ready (again). I was simply saying it sucks their timeline happened to work out that the game gets released at a time when people might not be as willing to jump on an mmo.

Yeah, sorry, edited my post to something else after I saw you responded to different post. Didnt want to seem like I was dumping on you.

That cover gets me hyped!! They usually always have some sort of tie in with the end of the story and end game area.

Wonder who that woman is and what part does she play. CANNOT WAIT!

Wow, people weren't kidding when they said that you get charged in-full when you pre-order from Square Enix's website.

At the very least, when it arrives in August at least it will be paid for. I wish I could have pre-ordered the PC Collector's Edition from another site, though. I hate Digital River!

Here's hoping it's not another Ni no Kuni incident. Despite myself receiving the Wizard's Edition alright, it was still a stressful experience. ~_~

Well, I wouldn't say it plays like FF12, but it's very reminiscent of it in a lot of ways (mainly UI, thanks to Minagawa's awesome work).
There will also be something similar to gambits when they introduce the "buddy" system.

Oh, I imagine gambits to be really usefulthat could reduce the click-load per seconds. ^^

It's still very story driven, SE MMO's aren't like generic MMO's when it comes to story telling.

This is good news, I'm anticipating everyone's reaction to ARR.

Took me a second to realise there is no physical CE on the EU SE website(so many initialisms). They only seem to have digital. Found it on ShopTo though, so ordered.

I'm so disappointed in UK retail. PS3 collector's edition is so far listed on a grand total of three websites:

ShopTo
Zavvi*
TheHut*

*these are essentially the same business

Even the great giant Amazon has not updated their product listings. The standard version is listed with a placeholder cover and a placeholder date.

WTF

And these tell absolutely NOTHING

They tell you why Eorzea is the way it is now, and gives a glimpse of the new landscape. Also lets people know the game is still very much story driven (or at least the end of an era does). I mean they even tied the whole increase in monster size to suit players, among other things, into the story.

Oh and she was on the front of the 1.0 box too:

Who is the guy on the front supposed to represent though? Just a random player character / someone being gifted with the echo?

And these tell absolutely NOTHING

Primals have started to awaken in Eorzia, Primals are worshiped and summoned by Beastmen. To summon and sustain them on Eorzia would require considerable amount of aether energy. The people of Eorzia are somewhat in neutral terms with the Beastmen but are not in good terms with Garlean Empire due to past conflicts (see 1.0 intro movie). The Garlean Empire also sort to destroy all Primals, probably because Primals will suck the world dry, sooner or later.

Then came Dalamund, which turns out to be some sort of dooms day devise that can be used to conquer Eorzia. The Garlean empire thought they could use it but one of the generals knew what is inside and sort to release it, he succeeded in doing so and it turns out Dalamund is actually Bahamut's Prison. Bahamut is also a Primal, a very ancient one at that. At the height of the conflict between Eorzia and the Garlean empire, the Twelve deities of Eorzia was summoned to reseal Bahamut but ultimately failed, All is about to end but one of the deity which is sort of a guardian of time use what's left of his energy to transport all the players and NPCs to the future. AAR starts at this point.

Adventurers will be able to ride a variety of mounts for transportation in A Realm Reborn - including chocobos, Magitek armor and more! With this bonus, you'll be able to hop aboard a coeurl and chase down your foes!

:O

Heh I was listening to Seiken Densetsu 3 OST, and Hope Isolation Pray started to play while reading this post. Actually fit nicely...kinda reinforces the feeling that the online FF stories really feel like what you'd expect from classic FF.

:O

Yeah, hopefully you'll have to go on some sort of Garlean infiltration mission that ties into the story to unlock it. Probably at Cid's request. I wonder how that will play into the mount combat system, or if its just for chocobo.

Just watched the two Eorzea tour videos. I see what everyone means about the framerate in the PS3 version. Hopefully it can be improved a bit before launch but I am still going to get it.
Hopefully they show some of Gridania soon. I am still torn about where to have my home nation.

Look for videos from the Alpha on FFXIV YouTube Channel. There is plenty of Gridania and The Black Shroud to be seen over there!

Edit: actually, here they are.
Gridania
The Black Shroud part 1
The Black Shroud part 2

As long as it's not fucking Castrum Novum again, I'm game.

Been keeping an eye on this from the beginning, and I was gonna think about jumping into the PS3 version with 2.0...but I can't really do that with PS4 around the corner. Not to mention the PS3 runs a little hot for me to leave it on playing an MMO for long periods of time.

I'd get the PS3 version and get started if I knew I could download it for free on PS4. Maybe even if they just confirmed a PS4 version and release date.

If Square was smart they'd make this a launch MMO for PS4, that's a Final Fantasy game in a launch library and some great exposure for an MMO. You'd grab a bunch of core players that way. I doubt they have the resources available to even consider it though.

There is a lot of debate on the official forums about if the fully colored, book wielding, mortarboard wearing elezen on the far right is in fact the Scholar Job.

Edit: Below Monk and above Black Mage

Very likely indeed, or at least another new job, since the other 8 characters are jobs it wouldn't be Arcanist (since Summoner is just across on the left side).

I take Fernhalwesaljsdakljslskjd trolling as confirmation that it is, in fact, Scholar.

And since Arcanist and Summoner both use books, too, this would mean it's the first branching class/job.

I agree with you on the PS4 version but if FFXI is anything to go by... PC version will be the one to get. I'd recommend that if you can run it.

Maybe there's 2 types of books, Hardcover for SMN and Paperback for SCH lol

Agreed, but I don't. I've got a laptop with shitty integrated graphics.

I usually like my 'couch and TV + controller gaming' but with stuff like this mods and things can be really nice.
