I don't doubt these all being included at some point. Yoshida will do it, I am sure.

Obviously 80% of those summons or so will be represented as minions.

It would be extremely hard and time consuming to make them as avatars, specially when only 1 job would have access to them, no point at all.

Well, keep in mind that a lot of those were in XI as just NMs or regular enemies, and many are already in XIV.

He never said that they'd be summonable, just that they'd be in in some form.

Oh yeah, I know that. If even 75% of them show up in the game at all, I'll be surprised. I hope it happens though!

It seems like it would be hardest to fit the FF 12 summons into the mix since almost all of them were one-shots, but I'd still love to see it.

Is there a new benchmark for the realm reborn version yet?

If not, could someone link me to the old benchmark please so I can check it out when I get home from work later.

Anyone know how the pre-order early access tokens work? If Amazon is sending it when the game ships, what would be the point?

I preordered and they already sent mine, but I can't use it until SE activates some sort of website apparently.

I preordered the PS3 CE. If the account system doesn't work like I think it will I figure at worst it'll cost me another $30. Better than ordering from somewhere other than Amazon, and I want to be able to play on both platforms anyway.

Basically, you pre-order and get a code.

This code is entered on the Final Fantasy XIV redemption site [closer to launch]. It will give you all of the pre-order bonus items as well as early access to the game.

I had a dream about FF|V last night =3

Damn this game can't come soon enough, it was my retirement from Trophy Hunting (wanna reach gaming goals 2.0)

I pre-ordered from Amazon and didn't get a code, though. Where would I find it? My email?

Edit: Nevermind, just got it :) when do we get to put the code in?

Maybe look under your Digital Download items? I'm not sure how Amazon handles the code, perhaps they'll email you it closer to release?

I pre-ordered mine from Square Enix's store and got it instantly [although it's of no use right now, obviously].

Edit - Ah, success!

You don't enter it anywhere just yet. If you go to http://preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com and enter your email address, they'll inform you when the site goes live to accept your pre-order code.

I can't wait to play this on the PS3! I really hope a PS4 version comes out. If it launches after the PS3 version, I hope we can get a free upgrade.

They should, or at the very least, offer a discount for those with the PS3 version. But you never know. :(

I'm going with the PC version just to be safe, but having the PS3 version sounds like a solid choice. The controls look to be very-well optimized for console play. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

I hope so. It would have been so cool to find a way for PS3 and PC players to play together. That would be awesome.

You missed Salamander. (Final Fantasy Tactics)

And Cyclops too.

I was just being ridiculous with that list, though I still want to see how they manage to use those FFXII summons like Shemhazai, Hashmal, etc. I imagine it could just be server names for most of those.

So from the ARR site, it looks like they are positioning tradeskills as full-fledged Classes. Does this mean one can level entirely by crafting and gathering?

So excited for this! Can't wait for that art book and baby behemoth (and PS3 play, of course). After FFXI, I can't go back from playing an MMO on the couch.

The "just as classes are starting" release date is a little scary, though. :/

Bingo. That class anyway.

huh. That is awesome. So gathering high-level materials must not be strictly limited to gathering in high-level areas, for example. That is, unless gatherers are given rudimentary combat skills to survive.

Was this a thing in FFXIV Vanilla as well? I could just read up on how that went instead of asking basic questions here.

that's how 1.0 was. you were supposed to never need to touch a disciple of war/magic class to play the game. you change weapons and you fully change your class. equip a fishing rod as your main weapon and you're now fully a fisher, you cannot fight or cast any spells

you get abilities that make you immune to aggro which is how you walk around high level areas

They get skills that let them stealth past monsters. However, they won't be able to participate in the majority of the game's content or participate in the storyline.

In 1.0, they had a "throw stone" ability that would let them "fight" along side npcs on story quests, but they did away with that in ARR because they felt like it was silly and kept them from creating more challenging story-oriented content.

Awesome. I'm weirdly excited to just run around and craft / participate in the economy for a bit at launch!

This is the only game I've enjoyed crafting in, and gathering was surprisingly satisfying, too.

And 2.0 will be significantly better in both regards. Not only have they drastically improved the crafting and gathering systems, there are now dedicated quests and other content for the non-battle classes.

That, and people were supposedly beating Ifrit with it because the move causes guaranteed stunlock

So... what server is GAF going to be on?

Debating where to head to as there seems to be some options available for me.

Seems like there will be at least one legacy home and one fresh home for GAF players. Dunno what the fresh server will be.

Aye. I guess that's what I'm referring to mostly. I much rather play starting fresh than on an existing server.

Mining + Blacksmith/Armorsmith/Goldsmith and you will be killing it.

I didn't participate of the economy at 1.0 launch as much as I'd wanted, but just mining for ores helped me a lot during the tough grind that was the 1.0 launch. Towards the end, that combo was my main source of income, mining my own ores and crafting relic base weapons, hamlet swords, and some other random items to sell.

Botanist wasn't as handy in my opinion, due to it's not so broad use. Woodworking would benefit the most, however Clothcraft, Alchemy and Cooking were dependant equally or even most from other fishing, a bit of mining and mobs farming.

This was definitely the way to go in 1.0, but I suspect it will change somewhat in 2.0.

Also, there's always money to be made in filling niches - you could make a TON of money in Botany farming cocoons for useless Vanya stuff and Trilium for relics.

Fishing for Navigators' Ears was incredibly profitable, too. They went for 6k-15k and it didn't take long to fish up a stack of them, and they went quickly since they were used in two popular Militia items.

I used to mine a lot in 1.0 and actually enjoyed it, which I never imagined I would. I just hope that nothing in ARR will ever match the tedium of FFXI's crawler silk farming in West/East Sarutabaruta.

Of course, I just wanted to tell Kibokun something that worked well in the previous version.

Just like if food makes a come back, or should I say, becomes indispensable for most activities, then fishing and botanist will be just as important as mining cool be, and someone could live the day by day just by fishing and cooking for example.

Ravi you going to be able to play at launch or is all the SkullGirls stuff going to be keeping you super busy?

Edit: I didn;t play 14 much but I sure as hell do not want to get rid of my Gobbue mount so I doubt I would roll on a new server.
