Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I wonder if it has to do with the game always spinning in the console. Im at work so I cant take pics but my tekken, call of duty, and I think my mario games all have them.

Did the constant spinning get fixed in the patch? I thought I read it did.

You know, the weird thing is, for the majority of the previous gen, I would tell people the Wii was my secondary platform after the PS3. I got my Wii at launch, and my PS3 in mid-2008, but I own a lot more PS3 games than Wii games today. Almost twice as many, if you count PSN titles.

But looking back upon the time I spent with the games I have on each system, as well as the fraction of games on each I have actually played, I think I enjoyed the Wii a whole lot more than PS3, and most of the games on PS3 which I really loved were PSN games.

My perception of which was actually my "secondary" platform has changed over the last year or so.

I break it down into usage

Single player. The Wii was my primary console.
Online was 360.. and entertainment.. Netflix and the sorts
PS3.. was a damn fine blu ray player and UNcharted and Batman
 
I have discovered the Wii U killer app. Super Metroid.

I picked up a Pro controller since I find the gamepad a little cumbersome for SNES games. I think Super Metroid and Super Mario World are probably the best things to play on the system right now.

Multiple restore points per game would have been nice, but it is definitely an improvement over the Wii VC. I think I'll probably spend a lot of time/money in the Wii U VC

I think the trick is to use ZL/ZR instead of L&R. That way your fingers are closer together. But regardless, for pure nostalgia reasons I'm saving up Club Nintendo Stars so I can get the SNES VC controller :D
 
Between completing NSMBU, starting Darksiders 2, Runner 2 and Super Metroid, checking the daily Rayman challenges, using the Internet browser and growing increasingly addicted to Miiverse I'm rarely off my Wii U lately.

When 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers hit the shelves I'll probably be hopelessly obsessed with my Wii U.

Same here.. bought last week. I quite enjoy the system. I love the gamepad since i have huge hands. Right now im playing Super Metroid and Zombie U, and i quite enjoy checking out miiverse after each playing session.

I dont care if they dont release that many games for the system. I dont have much time for gaming anyways.

Yep it's a great family system. My young son and I love playing Nintendoland and Lego on it.

Whenever my son asks to play a game it's "Daddy, can we play the one with the bow and arrow?"

I just don't think the other platforms offer experiences like that, particularly co-op play with the second screen.
 
I think I have watched the trailer for "X" about 10 times this weekend. That and 101 along with all the Nintendo franchises make the purchase worth it for me.
 
Anyone know what the system update was for today? I played it this morning and there was nothing but I just turned it on and got prompted for an update. It was very fast this time. Only took a few seconds.

That was just a week old update that had "Improvements to System Stability and Convenience".
 
I just played that Pikmin Adventure thing (1 player with gamepad) on Nintendoland for the first time. I don't know why I haven't tried it before but it's actually really fun. Do the actual Pikmin games play like that?

The mechanics are pretty much the same but gameplay is deeper in Pikmin.
 
Me and the wife have been playing the hell out of Lego city. Must have put at least 20 hours into it this weekend. Its so hard to put the controller down with so many collectables around. I'm going to be genuinely sad when I eventually 100% this game.

Pikmin is often billed as a real-time strategy game, but that doesn't really paint the whole picture. It encompasses one aspect of the RTS genre mostly, which is micromanagement. It's basically a micromanagement game, with puzzles and combat.

The Nintendo Land game obviously tends much more toward combat than the rest.
 
After having my Wii u since Dec. I still haven't "beat" Nintendoland yet. The 2 games I'm having trouble with is the Yoshi and octopus dance games. do any of you guys have tips on how to complete them?

I think I changed the views of the system by my friends. after playing the game with 5 players they really enjoyed it more than they thought they would and it gets really competitive with Mario chase.

Pikmin 2 Wii is cheap as hell still.

Get it.

Because it's a great game and it deserves to be bought.
 
Had one since launch - this month has been dominated by my Wii U for gaming. 68 hours logged this month on my Wii U so far.

Browsing Internet/YouTube on my TV (Giant Bomb QL's look great on my tv - while simultaneously looking at NeoGaf on the game pad while watching a QL on the TV - great multitasking).

100% Mario Wii U, playing Super Metroid and Trine 2 to completion, playing my NBA 2K season and now falling in love with Lego GTA. Have only spent a few minutes with Nintendoland - ill revisit it this summer.

Seriously, Lego City Undercover is the most fun I've had with an open world game since og Crackdown or San Andreas - it is so dense with content. Exploration is rewarded around every corner. Amazing game.

I love my Wii U.
 
So I have my Wii U plugged into an LCD monitor. Everything has that washed out look. Any way to get full RGB range out of this thing (0-255) over HDMI?
 
Love my Wii U. Also finding that I may miss out on a lot of games coming out due to schooling and other expenses.
Games on Wii U I want are:
Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Game and Wario
Rayman Legends
Splinter cell Blacklist
Watchdogs
LoZ WW HD
Fast Racing Wii U
Pier Solar
Toki Tori 2
Two Brothers
Sonic Lost World

And whatever I find interesting the will be inevitably announced at E3. Then comes the 3DS games... Not so sure about ACIV since between that and Watchdogs, I'm leaning on Watchdogs since its more compelling to me. There's certainly a good amount of games that will be available and I am satisfied with my console. There are still things I wish could be better but to me they are small bumps. The freezing and hard locks is what kept me from playing this console for sometime. I always feared that it would freeze up on me when I played. That's not a good feeling and a console shouldn't give me that horrible thought. I felt like I was handling a ticking time bomb before the update.
 
I am very satisfied with my Wii U. Right now my time is spent with Monster Hunter, as well as picking up Wii games that I either missed, loved but don't own, or are underrated and never played (BC ftw). Lego City was wonderful, and E3 has me very excited. The games that we already know about are enough for me. Oh, and I am going Wii U only this gen. Having a baby (due this week), and need to limit my gaming to one console, which is better, seeing that game releases will be spaced out better with only owning one console.

You should also try newer games, the eShop has received a steady flow of really good games like Bit trip rithm 2 (or whatever), Toki Tori 2 (my personal favourite of the eShop and one of the best games I've ever played) or Nano Assault Neo (a pretty challenging space-shooter with solid mechanics).

Of course, on retail you can find NSMBU which in my opinion is better than SMW or ZombiU etc. etc.

I wouldn't limit my experience to the VC releases.

I'm about at my wit's end with this thing. I've played the games I care to play on it. Now it's a waiting game for new content. The primary purpose of my Wii U is to stream Netflix to my television, but Netflix only loads about a quarter of the time. The other three quarters of the time it forces the console to lock, requiring that I unplug it to restart. Five times this morning before I could get Netflix to load just to watch an episode of It's Always Sunny while eating breakfast before work.

Come on!

The way I'd describe the Pikmin games is as puzzle games that use micro-management mechanics though 2 because more RTS-oriented than puzzle-oriented.

I thought they fixed the hard locks requiring unplugging? Someone mentioned they could turn off the consoles during hard locks without unplugging a while back. Also you might want to call Nintendo about it since they claim hard locks have gone down a lot.

Yeah, clearly I didn't get the memo with all the anti-Wii U cliches.

By the way, where is the best place to post/find NNIDs? I'm sure there is a thread somewhere on GAF but I'm to lazy to search.

I think I've been on GAF long enough now to feel it worthwhile to add people from the forum, even off I don't really know anyone in particular all that well.

yeah a long press on the power button will turn it off if it hardlocks

Have you tried deleting the Netflix app (plus your user saved data) and reinstalling it from the eShop?

Do you plan to get both eventually?

If so, I'd expect ZombiU will go on sale eventually, more than it already has, where as NSMBU may not go on sale for a long time (if ever). Given that, maybe NSMBU now, ZombiU later?

If you really know what a Mario game has to offer then NSMBU is for you.

A lot of people are missing the different "ways" to play the NSMB games but this one is very good. Of course it takes time to master but you'll also have a lot of fun with friends.

Zombie U is the best use of the Gamepad imo but if you don't get what the devs tried with this game or if the London Zombified atmosphere does nothing to you then you may be disappointed. Just try it before.

I personally prefer Mario :p
 
I have to say, apart from Toki Tori 2 being one of the best games I've played in the last year (it's pretty much perfect for me) the feedback on Miiverse has been exceptional. Not just by other players but by the dev team as well, who are always about asking questions and trying to improve the experience.

It's the first time I've been able to personally thank a game developer for such a wonderful experience and I hope it won't be the last.
