Dude has been spouting horse shit on twitter 24/7 since he left Epic.

People need to stop quoting that clown.

I can't stand Cliffy B, he always appeared as douchey to me.

I like Gears of War though, the guy not so much. What he's saying on Twitter on drm doesn't help either. He always sided with MS, not surprised one bit.

VG247 just put up another article about this

Fearing Sony might implement similar policies concerning used games sale and DRM to those Microsoft is rumored to be using for the Xbox One, fans have kicked off a Twitter campaign to reach out to key PlayStation employees, urging them to steer clear of such policies for the PlayStation 4.

The campaign which took off via a forum post over at NeoGaf has been started to ensure Sony gets to know gamers’ opinions regarding restrictive DRM and used game policies and how they don’t want such restrictions to be placed upon them when it comes to gaming on Sony’s next-gen console: The PlayStation 4.

My hope is that at the very least, if Sony ends up implementing some kind of DRM, this campaign influences them to make it less intrusive. Less of a hassle.

Don't be a dillweed. Like Jaffe and a number of other developers that have spoken up about this in the past, the reason they don't like used games is that they imagine their 80 hour weeks and then imagine half the profits from the resulting product going into GameStop's cash pile, while they have to lay off their own staff, 80 hour work weeks or not.

I'm not saying that's a fair assessment of the situation by them, but it's coming from genuine concern, not shilling for MS or anyone else.

I don't get it, why is this an issue only with games?

Is Toyota supposed to get a cut of the profit every time a consumer sells their car? Or Samsung if someone sells their phone? This applies to pretty much every physical product out there.

I give a shit.

Ive got a simple question for people who talk this EULA nonsense. If I dont own a game and only the license, why do I have to buy a new copy if it breaks? As licensee, I should be entitled to a free replacement any time my software leaves my possession for any reason.
So let's say you crash your car or burn down your house, are you entitled to a replacement?

At least Gabe has come out and said on the record that if shit ever hits the fan, and Steam is no more, your games would be available for you to download indefinitely.

There is no reassurance with MS, or Sony with digital games. They need to clear the air by E3 at least.

You think that was a legitimate question? It was more of a way to provoke a response (aka troll) but I have seen people dumb enough to make a direct 1:1 comparision to dd games and physical, so maybe I'm wrong.

Add this to the OP

The image that they're using for the article is great

He is not lying, most of the software we have is not our own. We just have a license to use it.
Difference is I don't have to "check the game in" to play it. It's physical property I still own and seeing as I personally keep the disc and the console in good working condition, I will be able to play it for years, maybe decades, to come. Nobody can just come and take the game away from me.

Edit: I'm done posting. I keep getting suckered into replying to people that are derailing the thread. Don't want to get banned. Good luck everyone and keep pushing this campaign. :)

Heh, this is why I'm forcing myself out of this thread. I can't stop myself from replying to these.

Pretty sure the Finland tweet wasn't suggesting anything on Sony's behalf - they were simply mentioning the passion like all of the other Sony sources have, only they typed one of the hashtags along with it to give the tweet context.

My mind has been literally transformed by the some of the world's greatest novels...if publishers and authors of physical books don't get a slice of used sales. Why should game publishers for what is by and large much less ground breaking work. They deserve first sale only and barely that at times.

You can't have it both ways. You don't like the freedoms of physical media? Then release your games in digital download form only. Having said that even in pure digtial downloads will have to find fair ways to allow users to share experiences between family and friends. It's part of the human tradition.

(See - DRM free music & learn something)

Keep making up excuses. Last year an EU court rejected EULA and ruled that people should have the right to sell their used games. Apparently you can't do that on Steam so basically Gabe is taking your rights away no matter how much lubricant he uses in the process.

The hypocrisy I see in this forum amazes me.

The finnish tweet being taken down might just tell us that they're not ready to say anything about the matter yet (as one would assume anyway).

I'm hoping that's exactly what is happening. Not going to worry about it for now. Just going to be positive that good news will come along at E3, and if bad news does come along at least we can say we tried.

Not this shit again.

Seriously. Look, when I buy something digital, I am fully aware that I can't resell it or lend it to a friend. This is the nature of digital products, it is expected. Physical media come with entirely different expectations. If MS and Sony want Steam like DRM, they need to push digital sales instead of trying to force DRM on physical media.
