If Sony is smart they will come out and clear the air about DRM before E3. I got a feeling they will do the right thing, rumor yesterday was that they put "blocking used games ps4" on hold because of the reception MS got from fans after the Xbone reveal. Hopefully what GAF and Sony fans did yesterday put them over the edge on the DRM issue.

Maybe they will.
But this massive moment most have hit them by suprise as well.
They might prepare something before, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Has anyone from the other camp (Microsoft) said anything about this? Higher-ups, first party devs, pr people?

I suspect Microsoft is just glad the focus has shifted to Sony. It's as if we all just decided to accept that MS is doing it, let them off the hook (for now) from a backlash perspective, and just assault Sony in hopes they don't do the same.

I think this Sony anti-drm campaign is important. I have participated it in. And it wouldn't shock me if this actually worked. And if Sony does do the right thing, I will get a ps4 day 1, 100%. If they go the Microsoft route.. well now I'm back to having to choose from two options I don't particularly care for.

E3 should be about games. Compelling experiences. The promise of something amazing. Now we'll all be waiting for Sony and MS to give us back what we've always had, fair use of psychical media.

It should be about the games. It's pretty shocking really.

Usually, the E3 GIF Thread at this time of the year is destroying everything.
There's not even 5 pages this year :(

Yeah, don't get discouraged by Yoshida's silence. We don't even need to tweet him directly, really. Just keep the hashtag and discussion going. Just tweet out a statement with the hashtags once a day and maintain pressure / momentum.

woow just got time to read this thread and again woow at how influential gaf can be at times.

tweeted ps4nodrm like a dozen times, will continue to do so.

exposure, exposure, exposure. who on twitter has many followers and is likely to retweet/ tweet about this? name names! I said it before, I tweeted @ConanOBrien. Who else?

Kim Dotcom is pretty fond of console gaming and has almost 300k followers, but i'm not so sure about his stance...

Adding this PM to the OP, but I wanna give credit where credit is due to Minions for the hashtag.

Ignore my EA post guys. I was being stupid when I said that since I'm in a really bad mood today and not thinking straight.

Just to make you more paranoid...
If ea goes ms exclusive, than ms for sure will outsell the ps3 since almost all europeans need their football drug as much as the us guys do. So it wont be just a third of the market share that ea reaches... It ll be more.
Plus ea can save the dev costs for porting to the ps4

Now this thought is in your brain. Imagine the ultimate cod, bf and ea sports machine...

Good night sir

You know it has been really civil as well. Gaf should do things like this more often and keep Developers and publishers from taking all the fun away from gaming.

He has been dead silent on the issue which isn't like him at all.

100% sure he isn't allowed to speak on whether or no the PS4 will have drm. I'm sure you know that though.

If the PS4 doesn't have DRM save that as an announcement for E3. Have a killer lineup of games and reveal your console and you will have the attention of the press. Positive attention that is : ).

Just woke up and read the entire thread from where I left off in the morning. I'm very damn proud of every single one of you guys right now and will continue doing my part. Keep it positive, polite and don't waste your time talking about the negative tweets. Keep your focus on the issue at hand, unite in that regard and have perseverance. Keep letting them know how you feel and continue spreading the message please!

We care.

The used games part is a must but the DRM one? no way thats gonna happen

I want it to happen, but it wont, it would be more realistic to do a #Dreamcast2 tag and twitbomb @sega

Good night sir

EA would also go under. The company is deep in the red operating in the negatives.

Regarding getting a response from Yoshida or the like...you're not going to get any immediate, off-the-cuff reaction. Given how much interest this has generated, they won't say anything until they have a final clear answer IMO. And that probably won't be until E3 at the earliest. In the meantime he won't want to speak out of turn.

There has probably been debate for quite some time internally at Sony about to do around used games. What your tweets are hopefully doing is giving ammunition to people internally at Sony who were on the anti-DRM side of the debate, or helping them to reopen the question if a decision had been taken before. If, per the OP, Sony has been on the fence, I think it is no harm for any anti-DRM voices inside Sony to have the backup of consumer voices.

I have no doubt Geoff earned GT an exclusive or two whether he originally intended to or not.
Anyway if Sony is able to pull off the no drm, fantastic if not I just want them to be honest.
Let's all be honest , no drm is not worth having Xbox one get all of the third parties.
Anyone that says otherwise is lying or just wants to see the PS4 fail.
We will see where it falls.

If I won't be able to buy used games at all with no possible pricing model at all just plain and simple DRM and kill the used games market ...for me this generation might be skipped at the actual (expected) prices for PS4 games. I can't afford paying 60€ for every game I want to play or waiting a really long time until it drops in price. If there would be a prizingmodel re-thinking maybe I would join this generation..but still not sure.

So the best deal for Sony is to just simply stop the DRM idea and keep it going like in good old times.

IIRC EA can't make their sports games exclusive. They obviously don't have to put it out on every system (see Nintendo and PC) but for Madden especially I think the NFL mandated that it doesn't be exclusive.

So if Sony goes against them, their sports games would more than likely stay for legal reasons.

I think. I vaugely remember this from the Madden Exclusivity days.

Lol, I don't think Obama really cares about what gamers want, when he has enough problems to deal with.

LOL yeah, no way he gives a shit nor will he see it. Also the shitstorm that would follow if he tweeted about video game DRM on Memorial Day would be insane.

Forgive my ignorant Canadian ass here, but is trading in games/buying used games just as big in Japan as it is here? I'm assuming (perhaps erroneously) that the practice is just as common at home for Sony as it is here. How do the big Japanese game chains deal with used games? Is it seen as a huge problem by Japanese game makers? Do they feel they are owed money every time a little kid trades in a game, and buys another one? Can Japan Gaf shed any light on this? (I'm just curious).

FIFA games cant be exclusive to a single platform, i believe is on their contract but i could be wrong, also, the play station brand is to big for EA to ignore, MS would have to pay them shit loads of money for them to recover the loss of keeping their games exclusive

Has anyone tweeted Chris Kluwe about it? He likes to speak his mind and has a large amount of followers.

why are so few journos tweeting about this?

Maybe afraid of being shut out at e3 if they start kicking up a stink now. Any press about this is BAD press right now. Especially if Sony is sticking to plan A, which (whatever it is)was enough to make EA drop online passes. They (journos) will probably all be instructed not to ask staff about DRM at e3 anyways.

We probably should be targeting the likes of Fallon, the Verge, Wired magazine, and other tech (not necessarily videogame) publications.

How about all of NeoGaf changing their avatars in all relevant social media (twitter, facebook...what have you) and of course in NeoGaf itself. I think we need to push this to the next level of protest against DRM. I need a really talented guy who can create something that will become a eye-catcher and creates buzz. I'm not a bit talented in things like that I'll just post a picture for illustration only.

The thought of this being (partially) true makes me sick...
