If Versus really is re-revealed as FFXV as rumored, I hope we get a giant gameplay trailer . Even better than the 2011 one. I'll be pretty disappointed if it's like a minute long announcement about the game's new name and prettier graphics.

Hopefully they told us to "pleased be excited" for unbelievable unveiling. Not just a short "hype" trailer.

Hmm, really? But how do they even get to know everyone from so many different places around the world? You can register your site with them or something? I really have no idea how this all works...

I don't quite remember the specifics - I wasn't in charge of interactions with PR and it was several years ago when we got invited - but I know they didn't just ask us out of the blue. We reached out to them ahead of time and they confirmed us a seat.

Larger sites - especially ones with prominent, well-known writers - probably do just get invited, but we were small-time enough that we had to ask. I burned out of the industry and completely changed my life's focus a few months after that E3 (it was the year FFXIV was announced, and my writer was trolling me about Versus via text when the XIV trailer started), so I never had a chance to get invited again.

I see. Thanks for answering. :) Thats interesting, I thought the company was the one that selected whoever they considered worth being there and not the contrary (outside the bigger websites, of course, as you said).

i was/am thinking of making a thread about Rockstar's Agent..man what the fuck happened to that ?

I wouldnt be surprised if it got canceled at this point. And honestly from what we saw (the screenshots that leaked), I probably wouldnt care much as it looked pretty boring.

The whole japanese publishers bailing on Sony was a betrayalton of epic proportions.
Well, I guess they were betting the farm on the western market, a plan that didn't pan out obviously.

Yeah, that was an interesting first few years as 360 seemed liked the go to console for RPGs. I can see support because MS really wanted it and was going hard attract Japanese devs/publishers, but the first few years for PS3 just was terrible with Japanese support with RPGs, despite that it didn't take a genius to figure out that the 360 just really wasn't going to sell that well onto itself, they still bailed out of the PS3 versions in their own country?

It was all so nutty.

i just think it's one of those cases where publishers just announce exclusive vaporware("please be excited") with no intention of actually releasing it, like bioshock vita or versus..

i mean i don't think we have heard a single detail about the game since it was announced in E3 2009 right ?

Hey man, we had a LOGO. That's some serious shit!

I think that's pretty much how it goes. You ask them, they decide if you're "worth" inviting, then they say you have a seat or not. My main claim to fame was being one of the import reviewers that actually got Atlus interested in publishing Demon's Souls, so I'm sure something we said got Sony interested somehow.

It's probably sad that one of the first things I'd do with a time machine is go back and see what the gaming industry would have looked like if the entire Japanese side of the industry didn't turn on Sony all at once. We might be looking at a very, very different industry today if that happened.

Ah well, hopefully they learned their lesson.

how is square with letting others help them make a game? surely they don't feel embarrassed.

When your development teams are an industry punch line you'd better be open to getting help if someone offers it, especially someone like Sony who has access to some of the best devs in the world.

The real Megaton is Nomura takes his entire team, leaves Square Enix and joins Sony Japan somehow taking KH and FF with it.

The above statement has 0% chance of happening but damn that would be funny.

They clearly stated multiple times this is super early footage.I am sure you know that more than anybody here. Hold off the judgement on LR's visuals at least untill release.

If you are holding out hope it's gonna look much better than it does you're gonna have a bad time.

Isn't LR supposed to be out this year? I really don't think the visuals are going to improve that much in four to six months. LR is an obviously-rushed cash-in being slapped together as quickly as possible so Square has one more console FF game before the end of this gen. The budget is clearly nowhere near XIII's was, and if I were a betting man I'd say it's likely even lower than XIII-2's as well.

You also have to understand that the 360 came out a whole year before the PS3. The fact that all the major developers had devkits in their hands and an SDK to build a game around went a really long way to enabling developers to get some sort of game in the pipeline while they waited for Sony to come around as well. A lot of Japanese developers I think were genuinely excited to make a game in HD and the 360 was the only kid on the block at the time. That's why you saw an initial burst of Japanese games on the 360 like Project Sylpheed, Chromehounds, and the exclusive 360 RPGs.

i always thought it would be pride to get in the way i mean they managed to sit on Versus for 5+ years. so if they can let Sony help them it would be great really.

No idea if this was posted already

I haven't been following closely on the game since the first flurry of news earlier this year. I hope it looks good by the end.

The game might get delayed. You never know.

It'll look good for what it is.

Yup.What matters the most is Versus now.Probably the most important game since VII for the future of the series.I really hope they pull through on this one.It took us long enough to get here.Did anyone notice how anxious , sleepy and depressed Noctis often looks ? I feel like nomura is channelling his feelings through the character.Especially that 2011 trailer conveys a lot of anxiety.

Nomura has probably had a ROUGH time those past seven years. All this waiting and stifling of talent due to mismanagement.

okay the hype is really getting to me or something lol. I just went out for a drive and when I was getting in my car it reminded me of DriveClub. The first person field of view, seeing the dashboard and all with a blue light on it before I turned the key, man they really nailed it in the video footage.

Actually I could see Nomura working for Sony Japan someday. Sony Japan needs JRPGs.

Do you guys reckon we'll see camera gesture and voice control UI actions demoed? Just to say like hey we can do that mundane stuff too.

Depends on if the camera is included when you buy the system. If so, then I can see some games taking advantage of that.

Did we ever get anything concrete on if that was in-game or not? Do you guys think it is?

Ono posted a pic of it running off a PS4 dev kit several weeks ago.

you know, now that its been a while and I let it sink in...It looks very possible to be next gen ingame footage...still VERY high end of course...Looks like a possible extension of the best of what we have now. Also Capcom stated multiple times that its real time.

Gametrailers did an analysis and found that it is almost definitely in-engine, but its definitely not in-game.

Gametrailers held a show/panel about the trailer and determined it was using "in game graphics" and that it wasn't pre-rendered/Cgi.

This isn't the one I'm referring to, but still breaks it down.
