This is the RE4 of this generation, how? Totally sincere question.

It blows the competition away basically. This game will feel relevant in years to come, just like RE4 did long into this generation. And also since they're both beautiful, epic zombie-fests.

omg this gif cracks me up all the time. PERFECT

A review will always be an opinion.

The quicker some people get that drilled in their head, the less fun these threads will be. So keep on doing what you're doing!

Reviews are as much consumer advice as they are an opinion.

In this industry, reviews didn't start as an audience clamouring for a deep understanding of one critics views. They came from the requirement of insight as to whether a game is worth money to you, becuase games cost a fucking lot.

You've got a fair idea, that if your score is far out of line with the rest of the industry, your opinion on the game is possibly not fair as consumer advice.

I am saying, it's not as fucking clear cut as "it's an opinion".

What the fuck are you talking about junior?

How can a review be anything more?

Juniors don´t have opinions or what, only reviewers? ;)

Thanks. Said it for me.

Well i'm scared, the first 15 minutes should be amazing so i really don't want that to be spoiled.

No one is allowed to talk about the beginning or anything after the halfway point. We can more or less only talk about the stuff you have seen in the trailers and nothing else. We can't even discuss some of the easter eggs and main character motivations.

Aftonbladet, a crappy (to put it mildly) tabloid in Sweden, gave it a 2/5:

"But seriously, this is a game based on a monotonous game concept already for years ago was trite to breaking point. And seriously, that relationship is based mostly on the father figure uses his concern for daughter figure as an excuse to torture, cold-blooded execution and set fire to people."

Hey, that's the impression I get too!

Stop being obtuse. I've been around here and posting for years and years. This happens with every big tent pole release and exclusive. Halo, GOW, Mario, Zelda etc. Are you forgetting the infamous Zelda TP one? That was over an 8.8...

I wasnt around, but it was just as stupid, yes.
This is extra dumb since we should be way past the e-penis, console wars contest shit this late into the gen.

Nah. Right now the ND staff are all hunched over their monitors, scouring this thread and cringing at all the posts that express outrage toward Polygon's 7.5. That's what they're doing right now.

I hope they have better things to do. There's things they can take from that review and think about going forward. Hopefully they're focusing on that type of stuff.

More important than reviews, how well has Sony been marketing this game? It always amazes me how awful Sony has been the last two years with marketing, which has made me worried for the sales of Last of Us.

They've been marketing this game like crazy...idk what more you want from them. Sure they aren't advertising the game on primetime CBS but they are marketing the game where it counts i.e. during shows and on networks that gamers watch in droves ("The Walking Dead", etc.)

Its about comparing opinions.

Dead Space 3 averaged in the high 70's

Remember me is in the mid 60's

Metro is in the low 80's.

The last of us is in the mid 90's.

They wanted a drastic opinion for hits. Plain and simple.

Doesn´t Metacritic delete opinions that deviate too much from the average score?. It would seem logical to do this in order to avoid manipulating scores.

People wonder why Polygon's review matters...it matters because they're still considered a viable "opinion" by outsiders. Analysts & stock holders will see that and say, "Naughty Dog didn't completely hit this one out of the park". Also, with Polygon's shitty review system here are just a few games that had a better score than Last of Us.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Remember Me
Night of the Rabbit
Metro: Last Light
SimCity (2013) - original review
Gears of War Judgement
Dead Space 3
Black Ops 2
WWE '13

Some of those games are good, some bad, but I guarantee that none of them are as good as The Last of Us.

The Last of Us has yet to be released, so I doubt you've played it yourself. There's a game you listed that has also yet to be released here, so I doubt you've played that either.

Were those reviews even by the same person?

I don't understand what you're going on about.

So how many difficulties do you have access to at the start?

Really avoiding reviews for spoilers but like to know this

Now I can't care any less about review scores BUT with that 7.5 amidst the higher scores, is there an ulterior motives here? I see people claiming being sponsored by MS/Xbox so is there reason to call bullshit? I mean, can't Naughty Dog investigate, are there laws being broke or is this standard practice?

Like I said, I don't care. I'm all over it. But the claims here make me think something more "dirty" is at play.

Outstanding

That was also 7 years ago now. Still horribly embarrassing, but Skyward Sword didn't seem to have the same outcry. UC3 did much more recently, and it is already happening again.

It happened with GOW Ascension, Halo 4, Mario Galaxy and more. Happens with every one of these, just some more than others. My theory as to the degree of outcry is dependant on the quality or critical acclaim of the franchise. Zelda is a renowned and critically prominent, the the lower scores made more of an impact with the fan base as a result. Similarly, to many, Uncharted 2 was the best game of the generation and some of the scores or complaints seemed equally alien when it came to UC3. But like I said, it happens with every big exclusive. Nothing new here.
