As in terms of gameplay. It seems like your typical 3rd person shooter game that is balanced more towards less handholdy, but not really many revolutionary ideas or gameplay ideas or w/e with stellar atmosphere and production value, or I've missed something.

you've missed everything if you thing this is a standard third person shooter

The MS funded website Polygon gives a Sony exclusive a 7.5
Why am I not surprised?

The MS funded website Polygon gave MS exclusive Forza Horizon a 6.0, well under the average.

oh hey, it was actually the same guy.

Why are so many up in arms about a 7.5? God forbid every review isn't touting this as the second coming of Christ.

I roll my eyes more at the fact that "10/10 best game ever" seems to be thrown around so much anymore that it's become meaningless.

Just saw the OP - You seriously don't have a link to Polygon? Come on man, it's just a review score. I'm not a fan of Polygon either, but that's just kind of petty, don't you think?

Its not base on the short demo I played.

I just wish we could have a serious conversation about Polygon and the nature of reviews without either the idiots blasting them or the over-sarcastic people making jokes about 'conspiricy meetings'. If you think politics and console jockeying doesn't ever happen in game sites, you are lying to yourself. What is this review from Polygon? I don't know and it doesn't matter, it just looks bad.

Polygon didn't do itself any favors with creating a self fellating documentary before they had even begun working. A doc that had heavy funding from Microsoft itself. If you ever wanted to establish credibility out of the gate than that was the worst move possible. It looks really bad. So when they have numerous articles after the criticized XBONE reveal that were far more positive than most sites and aritcles including some that seem to defend the practices being presented than you are going to be called a mouthpiece for a console maker and not a serious site. It looks bad.

Of course when this review comes up you get the same. It fucking looks bad and it's thier own fault. We resently got a small inside comment about recent vocal GAF members and possible attachment to PR, marketing and social media firms. Well, that's what Polygon ends up looking like when this happens. It's not even fair to them or the reviewer, but that's what you get.

Agreed. Great post. People shouldn't get up in arms over people's opinions of games, especially ones they have not played yet, but I don't think that reason should be used to silence anyone from describing what may be trends of "funny stuff" coming from Polygon. If they hadn't had mods on their board warning people about dissenting opinions and the NEOGAF hive mind, I wouldn't be as suspicious myself.

Maybe he just sucks at his job then. My bad!

Great scores. Great game. But so many 10s makes me worried about the future of scoring games. Especially from a few small tidbits I read from people playing it in this thread.

Seems like a solid 9+ though.

Yeah. 7.5 out of 10 is a good score.

I just read this from Edge's review which I found hilarious...

If you are in any doubt you’re playing a Naughty Dog game, it’s made abundantly clear a few minutes into the campaign when you’re told to boost an AI partner up to reach a high ledge.

if you want to play and review the game early, you're on their terms. If not, then you'll wait until RD to write whatever you want. Simple as that.

Press routinely get books and films before release and they're not beholden to anyone. I think the games press obsession with "clicks" means they need the first review so bad that they will compromise themselves to get it.

It's super bad.

I think that's what they is arguing is happening. If I understand correctly, they are saying that it was given a score out of line from the general consensus so that the score would stand out and get clicks. Of course there is no way to confirm something like this, just as it would be impossible to say that the score is solely reflective of his option and nothing else. At a certain point you have to trust what they are saying or not. Or... not give a shit.

Exactly. They wouldn't even know what the consensus is or will be. I actually ripped that question right from Evilore's thread after the UC3 embarrassment, which ends up applying to a crazy amount of these threads.

You could make a brand new thread when a lower review hits, and the gut reaction to many posters would be anger while entering the thread, before reading anything. Way too much emotional attachment to a product that hasn't been experienced yet is a serious problem.

To be fair, it's VERY RARELY thrown around as much as we're seeing here. When this many super high scores show up I think it's safe to say that the game in question will be pretty good at the very minimum.
