So you're hating on poster's opinions that a reviewer's opinion sucks.

Why do you have to care about what other posters think? Posters post their opinion and you question their integrity.

If you really want to go down the paradoxical rabbit hole I can ask you to why you care what I think, that I am just posting an opinion. However I recognize the futility of such a conversation.

I argued against the fallacious idea that scores between games are meant to be compared in a hierarchical fashion, and never questioned the integrity of posters only criticized those who make lazy accusations of compromised integrity based on the fact that his score does not match the herd. Why communicate at all if you can't share ideas? Just be reasonable and responsible in your criticisms, it will do the medium some good.

And to think, the thread of the multiplayer demo had a lot of worried people. When there is nothing but 10's (or 5 out 5's) across the board...

I fear people may react the same when Bioshock Infinite (another Game of the Year candidate) comes out.

Stages of Typical Video Game Player Upon News of New Game:
1) Excitement
2) Skepticism
3) (Non)Acceptance of Game Journalist Opinion
4) Focus for Completion of Game
5) Realization That the Majority is Right/Wrong on Game Assessment
6) Applies Comparison To Like Titles in Same Genre

Why does the 7.5 review have to mean anything other than the reviewer had a different opinion than other people about the game. Also comparing the scores the site or even the reviewer himself has given to other games as a means to rate what games they think are best is silly as well. Reviews are not meant for building a hierarchy of games where every 9 is better than every 8 and every 8 is better than every 7. Every review is weighed against a great many contextual factors that can differ greatly between games. Instead of being mad that there exists a dissenting opinion you should be happy that a dissenting opinion does exist even if you disagree with that opinion because it's healthy for criticism. Every person in this thread that has questioned the guys review themselves have a dissenting opinion about a ubiquitously praised game for sure. This is fucking neogaf, a forum where it is ever so commonplace for people to shit on games that a large majority of people like. This reviewer gives a tepid score of TLOU and people question his integrity.

I feel the review score does not reflect the review itself. There are far too many positives about the game to just up and decide it's worse than the game Remember Me. This tells me that the reviewer simply didn't do a thorough job reviewing the game. Things like level design, artwork, audio, voice acting, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc..... simply were not included or factored into the score.

That's just my opinion of course.

Perhaps, the reviewer simply started at 10 then deduced points for things that weren't polished or fleshed out. Maybe he was just comparing it to other survival horror games and came up with the score based on how it compared to others.

In the end, it just seems like the review score doesn't reflect the review but, it's nice to see a reviewer that posts what he thinks and doesn't simply follow suit with everyone else.

After GTAIV being a disappointment, I'm kinda cynical of such high review scores, but The Last of Us does sound amazing. I've grown tired of action games these past few years, with mindless combat and waves of enemies. The Last of Us sounds like a breath of fresh air in a stagnant genre. I really hope it delivers.

2/5 from Aftonbladet (swedens biggest paper)

some quotes (running it through an online translator)

Calls the walking dead a better game.

Naughty Dog get lost in the dark
The last of the us shows that Uncharted-creators should stick to lighthearted entertainment

Play better: "Uncharted 2: Among thieves" (Playstation 3). Tips to Naughty dog: stick to the easy Digest matinee adventure, plattformsklättrande and a hysterical pace. You are better at it.

Did you know that ... the zombies in "The last of the us" is not real zombies? They follow only zombie rules to the letter. For example, to the awful likes to bite people so that they, too, turn into ... not zombies.

Right now: we are waiting for "Everybody's gone to the rapture," which is "Dear Esther"-the developers ' attempt to tell a story set during the Apocalypse, instead of after it. Sounds exciting!

ACTION ADVENTURE A kick in the chest. A blow to the jaw. The man lies on the ground, his panicky gaze meets shotgun pipes. The shot goes off; the face disappears. Jack Tretton laughs.

Sony's E3 2012-press conference is over, they have just shown their big flagship – "The last of us" – and when Sony Chief Thirteen have laughed he clearly chooses the words that rounds off the whole event:

"This is the titles that showcase the cutting-edge creativity that Playstation 3 range stands for!"

It was a year ago, and now is "The Last of us" here. But one thing happened during this year. "The walking dead" happened, and you cannot avoid comparing these two titles.

They do tell you almost exactly the same story.

That of a middle-aged man and a young girl on a journey through an America that went under in a zombieapokalyps, that of tenderness in a brutal world.

Less fear, less adrenaline

The only fundamental difference between the two titles is in how they tell this story. "The last of the us ' developers Naughty dog decided to make use of traditional that critical game situation — game runs at 90 percent to assassinate/tredjepersonsskjuta monsters and bandits — and then placed his story in cutscenes, that short breaks in the action. "The walking dead"-the developers have instead chosen to leave Telltale story go first, they then built up scenes that lets the player Act.

It is striking how much better the latter works.

"The walking dead" is not only better than "The last of the u.s." to portray characters and game world. It is also better at everything that we could perhaps believe that traditional actionupplägget is more suitable for – it's more exciting, more adrenaline, more frightening.

And I'm as surprised as you.

AHHH om Mc Shea,, that 2 bit hack reviewed the game for Gamespot?
WTF?
Gamespot has a lot of respectable reviewers, particularity Kevin Van Ord, Carolyn Petit etc..
But McShea ain't one of them.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
What do reviews say about "Listen Mode"? did they liked it? or turned it off?

For those that fear the game will be all story and no gameplay, or that it plays like Uncharted, EG makes an important point:

It's the gameplay that clicks first, which will come as a pleasant surprise to those left cold by the shallow, breezy spectacle of Naughty Dog's rollicking Uncharted games - especially the borderline incoherent smoke-and-mirrors of Uncharted 3. The Last of Us is made by a different team and is a very different beast. It's purposeful and mean, with lean meat on its bones.

I think from now on I'm going to avoid any future 10/10 reviews.

For these mains reasons

- it's hyperbole and nothing will live up to the expectation. Saying a game is perfect and an industry changer just makes you look like a fool and a tool.

- the reviewer is still clearly on so much of a high that they're willing to look at it from face value and ignore potentially game breaking things.

The one thing I don't get is a lot of these reviews have some complaints of the GAMEPLAY of this GAME, yet still rate it perfectly.

Damn it, that does it.

I'm pre-ordering this game [again] today. I'll have to settle for the Standard Edition since the Survival Edition is already sold out [out well, saved myself $20!].

I was going to wait and pick this up later, but with all of the excitement [and in fear of spoilers], I feel the need to play this one as soon as possible.

I'm getting word is actually between 10-15. If I need the few extra hours. I'll just pay 2 dollars extra for another day. No big deal.

Good luck finding a copy at Redbox. I get the feeling this one is gonna be a tough find to rent. Especially for the first week or so.

The spoilers aspect will likely be what drives me to pre-order. It seems people are being particularly malicious with this game.

BTW, I've tried avoiding most of the reviews as I'm hearing they're consistently spoiling without concern. Only got though Destructoid and Eurogamer. However, I'd like to know if ANY review pointed out if there was a huge difference between the easy, normal and HARD mode because if the loot, checkpoints AND AI turned out that way then we are being terribly misled on some of the impressions. Anybody who's played the game to verify this statement or comparison because if so, we need to know what DIFFICULTY the reviewers are playing at if such a difference is clearly pointed out.

This. I am getting more and more frustrated with game reviews being basically only about story and not telling us anything of value for gameplay. Part of the reason I read reviews is not just for opinions but for info if there is a best way to play the game.
