TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

Yeah I'd remove that.

All this cloud talk is intriguing. Is this possible on PS4, what advantages does a game like TitaFall because of Cloud orver something like Planetside 2 which is coming to PS4.

No advantages. I'm thinking the advantage of Microsoft's side is that they are providing the cloud for developers to use (assumption here) free of charge, where any other platform would require the developer/publisher to pay for and maintain their own servers.

This will ideally lead to more widespread use.

Google can remove content from devices right? Cause I don't have the issue anymore. I have it set up to auto download for offline use so I think that's what they did. Unless it didn't auto download and I was loading every page from the web which I kind of doubt.

Planetside 2 is pure PvP without NPCs so you can't really compare it to TitanFall. But as an fyi - PS2 can host 2000 Players on a single persistent map - 100vs100 fights are pretty common...

Well it's too late now. The cat is out of the bag. Thanks, Cartman! You have done great.

I think DCU Online has NPC's and that is coming to PS4 as well

So.. biggest leak in video game history? I mean we were going to find out about it in a week anyway but I have to imagine MS and EA REALLY didn't want anyone to know about this so it would be a huge, potentially console war winning surprise.

How could anyone even begin to predict that at this point? Especially with a new IP.

Do we even know if there's a difference between "Azure cloud computing stuff" and "MS' commercial Azure cloud stuff"? If so, what is the actual difference? People assume MS is offering them to devs for free and/or building a robust API to make it easier for devs to harness it for real-time games, which I don't think is entirely unrealistic, but I haven't seen MS actually give any meaningful details.
<MS Employee but with no internal knowledge, so color me bias if you so desire>

I assume that the Xbox team has crafted APIs for the Xbox SDK that enables developers to quickly hook up azure access. Based on their claims that each game will have dedicated VMs, it appears that the devs don't have to do very much coordinated work to get up and running for compute tasks with azure. I assume they get an allotment of cycles, and devs can perform functions in the cloud and return computed tasks. Azure is a business that requires access around the globe, so the infrastructure is already there to be used. This promise (simplified, of course its actually much more work than this) merely means adding more physical machines and racks to their infrastructure around the globe.

From my own (app development) experience, Azure mobile stuff was really easy to work with. The azure team had very simple APIs that hooked into the windows phone APIs. I assume that either the xbox team or the azure team fused this into the Xbox SDK to enable similarly easy functionality. Devs could hook into the cloud computing infrastructure without the headache of manually crafting the backend (physical) infrastructure and instead could focus more on the code to do the tasks. Having this up and running can help shave off many weeks of 'waiting' during coding milestones. (This is of course assuming that it actually is very easy to get this up and running on azure--something I'm merely speculating based on Azure Mobile Services from my personal outside-of-work dev experience).

So much bullshit in that article.

  • couldn't do it on current gen consoles but are making it for 360.
  • impossible to do without cloud but are doing it on 360/PC/probably PS4.

Do they seriously expect people to fall for this stuff when they contradict themselves in the same article?

Great find!

Like how they're using Source, that was a big WTF, but I can agree that making a completely new engine would take time.

So since this is coming to PC, can PC games claim use of the almighty CLOUD

Lol. Busted.

ok I missed that ,. link please..?

I believe he is referring to my post

"They seem to suggest just this game with the option of multi in the future.

In all honesty though will Titanfall penetrate the market, it's already pretty bloated with COD, Battlefield as multi, Destiny soon to join them and exclusive shooters like Halo and Killzone on both Xbox and PS, not to mention Free Planetside 2 on PS4 - is there really room for another multiplayer shooter (online or not)?"

I didn't say Killzone would "hinder" Titanfall at all, more that we have a market already crammed with Shooters and named Killzone as one of those on PS4 in addition to all the multiplats and speculated how much of a demand there would be for yet another big shooter.

360 version is being outsourced. Also may be reduced heavily (think Wii to PS3/360).

Unless Microsoft made somekind of deal, I see no reason to believe this wont come out sooner or later on PS4. The whole situation smells fishy to me though.

Potentially? You.can.bank.on.it.

Started to look into next gen and the answer they got from Microsoft intrigued them

Don't tell me, you mean mandatory online, get a cut of used games, DRM "cloud" bullshit

How have I become so cynical? :/

But those four days are important because Microsoft wanted to make a big splash at E3. It was scheduled for Monday, after the conference, I believe.

This game has everything they want.

- FPS
- Example of cloud gaming
- Exclusive
- Great studio
- Early generation game

They could make this game enormous if they wanted, and E3 was their big chance. Now, because of this, the reveal is "cool" instead of "HOLYSHIT DID YOU SEE THE MS CONFERENCE THAT GAME WAS AWESOME"

hopes dashed dreams shattered... Damn you GAF, Xbox loses again!!

its still a huge game and it comes out in 9-10 mos so yea. There will never by hype for this game. Ever.

It's funny watching these guys succumb to the corporate PR BS.

People will still talk about it, especially if we get our first gameplay glimpse. The actual conference is pretty irrelevant compared to the copies of GI on shelves.

As for the "lol 360" remarks, imagine outsourced low res 30fps with half the player count CoD4 on Wii and there's your current gen version, Respawn isn't going to touch it.

While I think that the cloud talk is mostly marketing talk, how do we know MS isn't also enabling those servers for 360 and W8 games? I'm actually expecting that they will.

The days are going to go by really slow till E3.

What are you talking about? Yesterday we had Xbox One eSRAM yield issues with a 70+ page thread - today we got a leak on Respawns new game...
I'm pretty excited for the days to come - I can't imagine that we won't see more leaks / insider informations...

That was a good read.

Not surprised. Was expected months ago. They must not have high expectations for this game considering they are giving porting (to 360) duties to someone else. (We all saw how that worked for Kojima with Zone of Enders). I guess Microsoft must have paid quite a bit for this. Otherwise I don't see how they couldn't get the same experience on the PS4, as well as double the opportunity for sales.

That said, it is just another FPS. Also it is coming out on PC.

Interesting but as always going to wait and see what it actually turns out to be. Hopefully there is some good gameplay videos at E3.

The big news is it will have unlimited dedicated servers because of MS's cloud, MS wins next gen!

Also I wish the game plays like Chromehounds with mech customizations and a built in clan system!

Could have actually been one of the appealing points for going X1 exclusive if Microsoft offered up their servers even for the non X1 versions.

Or the Xbone can't properly run a Source engine game efficiently.

There's really no reason to be upset, as PR bullshit spewing is so prevalent. That's what they do.

OP, bravo on the find.

So... yeah... I'm more excited for Destiny. And all this cloud computing stuff, guess we'll see how it pans out. I have few reasons to have faith in it. The PC version should be pretty sweet with the modified Source Engine. I wonder if te game will have some sort of "GWFL 2.0" deal or just use Steamworks?

very possible since now they have XBox Live service on Win8.
Nice way to push Win8 acceptance and start some meltdowns in PC community :)
