what jrpg are you playing right now ?

At the end of the 2nd disc, or there about, for FFIX now.

So far so good, really makes me want games/rpgs with pre-rendered backgrounds to make a comeback.

The ability system is pretty interesting and satisfying, makes equipment feel more special than usual.

You'll find the grasses in Demon's Souls make it at least a tad easier than Dark Souls, especially since you can use them when in another player's world. Midway through the game, you should have hordes and hordes of top-level grasses. Game's still as challenging as Dark Souls battle for battle, but having an almost limitless supply of healing outside of battle is definitely a crutch Dark Souls didn't have.

It's true for World 1, where enemies drop plenty of grass, but if you're going through other worlds, you're forced either spend souls on it or go back to World 1 and farm it as you can't get any decent amount otherwise. Either way, it's tedious, some of the worst parts of Demon's Souls for me.

I'd like to note that I don't think * Souls games belong in the "what jrpg are you playing right now ?" thread, but I'm not really interested in starting a genre discussion either.

This on Vita.

I just started Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of ar ciel, and I have a question for anyone who is familiar with the game (I didn't want to bump an old thread). What is the meaning of the green bar gauge at the bottom right of the main screen as you travel around? I can't find any reference to it in the manual:

I attempted playing the Intl. version of Star Ocean TLH, but that shit was mad boring and irritating. Currently I'm slowly pacing myself with my run-through of Persona 3, and playing through Secret of Evermore again.

Think of it as your 'random battle' bar. Once its empty, you won't get into any more battles in that area until you exit to the world map and return.

Finding it Impossible to find a Thread about Namcos Tales series. I figure if you enjoy JRPGs you probably enjoy the Tales Series. My First and only tales game was "Tales of Symphonia for the GameCube. I played through the entire game multiple times.

Tales series producer Hideo Baba has told Destructiod that the Tales series could eventually come to the Wii U, if the platform gets more support. Baba says that at the moment they are concentrating all their efforts on the PlayStation 3. Would you like to see the Tales series come to Nintendo’s latest home console?

“Our main target audience for the Tales franchise is still ultimately Japan, so when we make a game we want to target our main fanbase,”

“So we like the idea of the Wii U — we think it’s a great system — and if it becomes more and more successful in the future that’s a console we would like to tap eventually, but for the time being we don’t have any plans and we are focused on maintaining our fanbase on PlayStation 3.”

Tales producer Hideo Baba has revealed that he hasn’t any plans to bring the popular JRPG series to Nintendo’s latest console, Wii U. Baba also said that he has no plans to bring the Tales series to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Baba says his policy is to release Tales titles to the console which the fans want to play on. Recent Tales titles have appeared on the PlayStation 3 and that doesn’t look set to change anytime soon.

Just bought Resonance of Fate on the Xbox marketplace (downloading right now). Its finally time to see if its as great as I've been told.

Not sure if Kingdom Hearts is considered a JRPG but I've been playing that on PS2. I also have a copy of Final Fantasy X-2 which I've barely put any time into. same goes with Final fantasy IX.

May of the JRPGs I have I have been unable to Beat. Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10, Blue Dragon, Enchanted Arms

I never owned a PS1 or a PS2 so there are any JRPGs I bought off Ebay for PS1 and 2. Most of them Factory Sealed

In 2010 I was able to go on Ebay and find Brand new FF8 and FF9 and FF10 and FFX-2 and Dragon Quest 8. Final Fantasy 7 was only available used

Tried playing Ni No Kuni, but after 8 hours of play I don't feel particularly motivated to continue. I just received my first party member and the entire battle system broke down because of the inane AI.

EDIT: also, although the art style and visuals are very impressive, the texture work is pretty lackluster in terms of complexity and detail. This severely drags down the character designs, imo

Still playing FE Awakening to fill dat support log. Other than that I'm about to start this game. With any luck it will be good. It's my first game in this series so we'll see.

I'm playing the original Persona, the PSP version which I download for my Vita. It's alright. The persona system in this is just annoying as hell and kinda tedious. Every time I get a bunch of spell cards to fuse personas, either level 50/60 personas come up which I can't fuse, or personas I already have come up, so I'm finding it difficult even getting some. Then the whole affinity thing is annoying, separate character and persona levels, levelling the personas up, not to mentioning getting spell cards in the first place is annoying as hell. I don't mind the battle system or the dungeon crawling, but I'm really not digging the persona and character development system (exp varies depending on character involvement, which is not helpful at all). I wanna try and finish it at least, but I'm not doing the Snow Queen route.

Etrian Odyssey IV. Got a 3DS this week and this is the game I'm focusing first. EOIII was already great and I'm enjoying IV a lot so far.

Slowly playing through Persona 4 Golden and really enjoying it. I'm about 31 hours in.

Also playing Demon's Souls, but I might take a break from it for awhile. I think I'm getting somewhat close to the end, but I'm pretty board with it at this point.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

I'm actually working my way backwards through the Persona series, so I after I finish P2EP i'll play through Persona 1.

I finished Tales of Destiny.

It was pretty bad, the game is like 25 hours long, and of them, 20 feel like a filler. Also, Leon Magnus sucks, why does everyone in the fandom has a boner for him? Big, fat meh.

Finally started Persona 4 (PS2) a couple months ago and about to return to it. I'm probably 75% through. I bought the game in November 2008 according to my Amazon account, so yeah...I took my time getting around to it lol.

Persona 3: FES - Highest priority. Found the Disc which I lost shortly after release. Replaying it all the way through since someone stole my PS2 Memory card

Final Fantasy XII - Second Highest. I know this may sound like a shitty excuse, but I cannot stand how blurry the game is. It's great, but the blurriness gets on my damn nerves.

.Hack//Infection - Eh...I want to play it, but I don't feel like grinding. Whenever I turn it on I just relax to the beautiful soundtrack

Kings Field IV - I honestly do not know what to do.

My PC broke down and my friend friend my DS Lite's motherboard so I'm stuck with a PS2. I still need to finish Ys 1 ;__;

This thread is neato.

I'm kind of in the middle of several at the moment. I took a break from the genre for a few months and decided to come back to it after marathoning platformers (read: Mega Man).

Zero no Kiseki: I put this on hold so I can finish Ni no Kuni and get some stuff in FF5 done. So far, I like Sora no Kiseki: The 3rd better than this one, but now I can definitely see why Xillia 2 got compared to it so much. I'm getting used to the cast, and it's pretty awesome to be able to explore bits and pieces of Crossbell because it's so styled in terms of the 50s, a far cry from Liberl's setting. And again, I enjoy the callbacks and cameos from the Sora games a lot. Completely worth having played them prior to this.

Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers: I just played up to Warehouse District portion. I'd originally played it on the Sega Saturn, and it was such a great game with a great setting and script (and the degree of customization that the game afforded to you was very interesting for me at the time). The attack animations are better in this version, but I wish the sprites looked a little cleaner. Auto-Battle is a nice addition for easier battles and getting through them faster. And I've always liked Soul Hackers' music. You get jazz, ambience, techno, etc. Tons of variance on the soundtrack.

Final Fantasy V: Rolling a Black Mage/Berserker/Beastmaster so far this year, and it's going better than expected. Freelancers help out a lot, and Black Mages are excellent for the beginning of the game.

Ni no Kuni: I was supposed to finish this off last weekend and then my PS3 bricked (with the disc still stuck inside!). Picked it up on Tuesday, and had to redo a ton of stuff from when you got a mode of flight up until the final dungeon. Right now I'm halfway through that, so I'm on pace to get the game done. And I want it done. I don't like it very much, to be honest with you. I felt that way about it when I'd first started playing it back when it released. For now, this game gets priority.

Treasure of the Rudras: This game's always good. And I got a repro cart for this game as a late birthday present recently, so being able to play the excellent English translation on a SNES feels like a complete boon for me.

Additionally, I'm at the end of the first Mega Man Star Force (and have been since... March, maybe?), but for some reason I can't muster up the enthusiasm to finish it off. One day, though, because I want to get to the other ones. It's not too bad, but it's not MMBN.

Still playing FE Awakening to fill dat support log. Other than that I'm about to start this game. With any luck it will be good. It's my first game in this series so we'll see.
Ah, good luck. I hope you like it. I've stopped recommending it as a starter game for the series because the second one improves on every aspect so much (ie: many people tell me that they don't really enjoy it). But with that said, it's the only one that is readily available in English, and it's a great game in its own right.

Xenoblade. I'm not doing any of the sidequests, 85 hours into it, and it. just. won't. end. I'm honestly kinda over it.

Planning to start FE Awakening soon myself. Can't wait. And Suikoden is awesome. A charming, sprite-based RPG with a sweet Headquarter system.

This on Vita.

This sounds lovely. Don't have a Vita myself, but from what I've seen, dat screen seems perfect for PS1 RPGs.

It really is. Final Fantasy VIII, Tactics, IX and Vagrant Story all look amazing on it. FF VII is pretty much required to have it or PSP anymore because of how ugly it is.

I haven't had time to play anything recently but I did manage to finish Digital Devil Saga 2. I think once things slow down and the weather turns to shit again, I'm gonna start Shining Force 3.

Just started fire emblem and have been playing persona 3 on and off for about a year. Can't wait for some more 3ds RPGs.

Playing Ni No Kuni, just got the third party member and man both of them only feel like a burden because the AI is so poor

Went back to EO4 to finish it up. My 3DS backlog is already gaining traction (Fire Emblem Awakening, Soul Hackers, Denpa Men 2, VC stuff) so I gotta clear it out for the coming summer/fall stuff. Animal Crossing and MH3U are eating up a lot of time I usually dedicate to the genre.

I'm on disc 2 of Final Fantasy IX. Years ago when it was first release I got near to the end and never finished it. Trying to fix that now.

Playing on my Vita.

last remnant, it is better than FF13

Currently playing XIII and loving it, but I have also flirted with picking up The Last Remnant a few times over the years. I always thought it looked pretty damn good, so I need to go ahead and check it out at some point. I have been out of JRPGs for far too long. They actually seem fresh to me again.
