Started my PS3 beta this morning. For some reason I feel more at home on console vs PC. Might be that FF XI ps2 nostalgia speaking. Graphics aren't as nice as PC, but now I can actually read the text without squinting. Still looks quite pretty tho.

Im getting really tired of not being able to find stuff on the map.
every single mission I have to ask how to find the place.

...use the quest tracker/journal and it will take you right to the area on the map to go... (for PC just click on it... I assume you do the same thing with the controller cursor for PS3)

What's the best server? It's downloading from the client and I was wondering will my character transfer over to the final version too?

I have the original FF14, but it isn't installed or anything. I was thinking I'll just install it once the retail version releases and do the update.

Do you have to constantly use it to keep enemies on me? New to MMOs and tanks so I'm a newbie.

Yep, basically every time someone else acts against the monster you are fighting, they gain enmity with the monster and it will attack whoever has the most enmity.

So every time that NPC attacks and heals, etc. he gains more enmity to draw the monster to him. GLD's abilities are designed to maximize enmity generation, so you want to keep using your 1-2 combo (Savage Blade has a very high enmity rating) and Flash to keep the monster on you.

Once you start partying with other players, there's an actual enmity gauge on the party list you can see to determine how you're doing.

That doesn't help, it takes me to a static map that has almost no detail(like a map of a 'continent' with a few blobs for cities.)
and that map doesn't show where im currently at either.

That means the quest objective is in a different area than where you are. Click on the highlighted area to zoom into that area's map and you should see where the objectives are. Then look for the zonelines into that area and follow them back (click on the name of area on the zonelines, they act as links to the next map) to the area you're in. It's really easy...

Just got my invite!
I don't know how to do anything.
I played XI on the PC but how do I send a tell on the PS3?

Did it say its for PS3? I followed the instructions in the e-mail and its working. I had to recreate my account then I went into the second link in the e-mail. I don't know how it works for PS3.

I see that I can use my FFXIV 1.0 character in this beta with all my original weapons and items , does that mean that anything I do here is gonna carry over to the final game?

Sorry I must've not been clear. I'm in the PS3 playing it right now. Trying to get on the gaf free company but can't figure out how to send a tell

If anyone wants to find lil legolas you'll see me.

BTW the PC version looks 10x better then ps3 version, but for some reason the ps3 version plays really damn well also.

I will get ps4 version when it comes out

That map doesn't click or zoom for me.
only thing you can do is move the pointer over it to see the name of the objective.
(PS3 version btw)

Does anyone know how to beat the level 10 Gladiator quest? The stupid guy keeps dying and I can't figure out what to do. I use Flash but he still goes right after him.

This one can be kind of tough. Make sure you bring a high potion and use flash to keep the mobs from attacking the NPC. This keeps the NPC from getting low on health, allows the NPC to conserve MP, and to be able to heal you when needed.

If the NPC's health is constantly dropping due to getting attacked, he will waste his time and MP trying to heal himself until he dies instead of supporting and healing your character.

Thank god they got rid of that closed door at the entrance of Uldah. Things seem much easier to traverse now without a lot if the meaningless space of 1.0.

Race will stick with you longer than any class can and the stats differences are minimal. Pick whatever fits your taste first and foremost.

People who think PS3 doesn't run well should consider waiting until the PS4 release if they want a console experience and one not fettered by the soon to be passed-gen.

If you are afraid of re-doing quests for final release, but still really want to play, you can pick a race you don't plan on being, pick a class you don't plan on playing for awhile, and pick a city you won't be starting in.

Such a bummer! Looks like I'll be missing out on the beta weekend yet again. Hoping to read some good impressions here on Monday.

So, i got two codes. Does anyone want one?

Edit: Already got an MP, sent i guess.

Edit2: I still have it, since he couldn't use it. It's a PC EU Key for those interested. Send me an MP in case.

Finally got my J-beta code for PS3, although it seems it might let me just log in on my US account. We'll see, dling now, should only be an hour.

Digging the new Uldah and surroundings. Loved jumping off the cliff with the waterfall and finding the little ruin below. Just walking around is fun because of how much love went into the areas.

Anyway, how and when can I change classes?

This game is really gorgeous. Love the lighting on sunsets/sunrise.
