Is there any way to unlock the framerate? I'm getting what appears to be a 15fps lock in battles and a 32fps lock outside of battles. Strange.

I heard it's locked at a lower FPS, is that fixable? Or does it matter?

It's not that the renderer is locked at 15fps or anything. The actual animations are keyframed at 15fps. You can't get smoother animations because they don't exist.

Pictures I snapped real quick! To snap the pictures, I had to put it windowed at 1280x800 resolution, so this isn't the best representation, but for some reason, Windows 8 won't let me take full screen snaps at 1920x1080:

Well after two days the big ass mod torrent finally finished. Now just to wait to be able to use it without losing achievements.

I did mod the soundtrack, which is so much better now, but now I want some of those spiffy menus.

Can someone link the torrent because for some reason the link in Tifa's bootleg didn't work for me. I was only able to download each mod individually which is a huge hastle. A link would be great.

Those look ghastly. That font... ugh.

I do like the battle models in the overworld though. Looks more fitting. But everything else... yeuchh

The link in step 7 does work. Hit the skip add in the top right of the page it goes to. It was either a bit flaky or there was a countdown I didn't see. Worked after 30 secs or so.

That font looks better in widescreen, but yeah, it's very reminiscent of the iOS remakes. The font being squished in the menus is supposedly a bug, but I didn't feel like reinstalling the game and mods just to fix it. Doesn't bother me that much.

The backgrounds look a lot better now than they did. They're still a little blurry -- remember, their original resolution was 320x240. One of the mods was basically the PNGs of the backgrounds run through a script to enhance them a lot.

I also left Tifa's model the same. Her AC model is ugggggggly, IMO.

The only mod I would like installed is one that would make the backgrounds less pixelated. That is the only thing that stops me from playing this release: the sharp characters don't mash well with the small backgrounds on larger screens.

On the above screens though, maybe it's better in motion but to me it looks a bit like a bad photoshop filter is smeared across it. Not sure if that's what I would want.

Gotta give credit to the folks who built those more realistic character models, but it's not for me. It completely destroys any nostalgia I would normally feel while playing. I like the chibi character designs as they are.

What I'm trying to ask is, what's the best background graphics improvement mod?

There's so many options you could cut out what you don't like.

Honestly the only mods I'd want to bother with are the FacePalmer backgrounds (which is a pretty massive download) and a mod to put the battle models on the field.

There are a bunch of field model options in bootleg. I don't like the overly-detailed ones like the AC characters and stuff. The really simple ones fit the overall look of the game better in my opinion.

There's only one background mod as far as I know (the FacePalmer one). And it literally is a Photoshop filter applied to every background to smooth them out. Varies from looking decent (better than the horrible pixelation you get by default) to pretty bad (arguably worse than the pixelation).

In all honesty, I -think- that's what the redone backgrounds are. It's called FacePalmer, and I know it basically took the background PNGs and ran them through a script -- probably with Photoshop or something similar.

As far as I know, FacePalmer is the best/most comprehensive/only one?

the AC ones were weird, but the high-detail Cloud/Barret ones I have are great. Unfortunately, Tifa didn't have such an outfit, and I know Cait Sith didn't in the options, either.

All the AC models look way too...uh...gritty, for FF7, I think.

And Bootleg has a TON of options -- Mine are far from the best.

Well, all it does is take you to the bootleg mod list where you can individually download each mod. I'm looking for the package that downloads every compatible mod in one swoop.
Every mod that uses google docs for the download is giving me error 404.

Are you sure your UI mod installed correctly? I had that problem with the squished text earlier and discovered that the Avalanche UI wasn't properly installed. This is what my menu looks like now.

Yeah, I'm using it and Cheevos are still unlocking for me. So you're good.

alright, bought... going to play some today for nostalgia :)

I'm confused about how to setup my 360 gamepad for the controls... the buttons are labeled as pc buttons not the PS1 counterparts

Yeah, I thought so, haha. Oh well. I'd still like to try it sometime, though. Is it possible to install *just* the FacePalmer mod and still have achievements etc working?

It will require you to use Tifa's Bootleg program to convert the game's files, so you'll lose stuff like achievements.

I went through the whole Modding process, using Tifa's Bootleg and while I still have Cheevos, the text is completely borked. The Text is too big for the dialogue boxes, so I keep getting dialogue cut off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you launching the correct exe? You can't use the FF7_Launcher or the ff7_en one. You need to either use bootloader.exe or FF7.exe

You guys are weird, I recall Midgard being the most fun part of the game... >_>

When you have played through the game like 10 times over the years and know what's coming after Midgar it's hard not to be bored with the Midgar portion. I guess I still enjoy the atmosphere but there aren't many variables or side paths. That, and the whole place reeks of death and suffering. Once you reach the world map and see Kalm it's like a breath of fresh air.

Where are you suppose to install FF7 if you download it via Steam? It's currently in my common>Steam Apps> Steam> X86> C: folder. Where are you suppose to install it to?

Good heavens.

If I didn't think I would fuck this up royally, I would totally do it.

Installing Anxious Heart was a pain in the ass enough :lol

I'm actually not entirely sure. The installer for the Menu Overhaul mods would freeze while Bootleg ran, so I just installed them after, placed them in the proper folder, and away we go. I know the Menu Overhaul is working -- I have new spell names, ReTranslation, etc. that are all part of that. At least, I think its working.

That UI was exactly what I was going for. Guess I'll be messing with that tonight.

Proooobably shouldn't have just reinstalled the AVALANCHE GUI over everything. Now I have old backgrounds back....

Eh, maybe. I played that game maybe twice in fifteen years. I've been toying with the idea of revisiting it, but eh, already have a huge backlog...

It's linear, but I don't really mind that in jRPGs. Non-linearity is overrated. :P

That, and the whole place reeks of death and suffering.
That's what makes it so awesome! Love the dystopian atmosphere, that was probably the best part of the game for me.

Well, that was a massive download. 17GB. Just waiting for that bootleg thingy to install.

I've had the SE store version of FF VII installed since launch (Yes I bought it day 1) and didn't realise someone put this sort of effort into a mod pack because there's just too many to install/sort really.

Hopefully it'll work ok. I do have a local save too, will that work even as my cloud saves are dead?

Oh god.

Now I'm not even sure if I can cull some files to save space but my word. The game looks and sounds totally different. Need to see what music set sounds the closest to the original now.

The UI looks...interesting. Managed to put my save over too which helps. Now to carry on my quest to get a gold chocobo in Disc 2.

Downloaded the mod package, tried to follow the directions but when I start the game through the config the game starts, black screen, then closes. I made sure I chose the sound device too.

12 dollars for a 16 year old game??

Lolwut?

I'm assuming it's a HD remake?

Or people really like a game and want to have it on Steam.

I wonder if there's a way to get a decent filter working with this game. Really needs it...Natural Vision makes the PSX version look so much better. Sadly, the PSX version has deforming geometry which makes anything 3D look terrible.

A filter like this does blur the game, but it makes it look far more cohesive...characters don't stand out from the backgrounds as they do now.

Where do you download FF7 for it to work with the mods? I downloaded it in x86>Steam>Apps>Common and the conversion wouldn't work due it not being able to find the files. I'm not able to install FF7 Steam edition outside of the Steam folder. What should I do?
