Where do you download FF7 for it to work with the mods? I downloaded it in x86>Steam>Apps>Common and the conversion wouldn't work due it not being able to find the files. I'm not able to install FF7 Steam edition outside of the Steam folder. What should I do?

You're missing a folder. It should be Steam> steamapps>common>FINAL FANTASY VII. You have to point it to where FF7.exe is.

When you have played through the game like 10 times over the years and know what's coming after Midgar it's hard not to be bored with the Midgar portion. I guess I still enjoy the atmosphere but there aren't many variables or side paths. That, and the whole place reeks of death and suffering. Once you reach the world map and see Kalm it's like a breath of fresh air.

Guess this needs a Dungeon-Be-Gone mod.

I have no idea what you mean with regards to your comment. Dungeon-be-gone mod? Heh, just saying that I was glad to get out of the Midgar portion because I have seen it a million times. Limited materia choices, hardly any challenge, gloomy as hell, etc. I quite enjoy the dungeons in the game thank you. If you think I meant the whole game should be sugar and rainbows in a sunny overworld you are mistaken.

The screenshots look good but wondering if how they are in motion.

Thought I honestly kinda liked the odd chibi-ish style.

That's honestly all I'd do when I'd remake the game. Just up the resolutions, add anti aliasing and use the battle models for the isometric view as well. Well and redo the CGI scenes (but please only replicate them and don't change them).

And I dare them to touch the MIDI songs. They are superior to any of the mp3 versions.

Let me try to get a screencap on my modded FF7. It looks absolutely beautiful. The remastered soundtrack is simply godly.
I prefer this model to the other one where he looks more realistic rather than his iconic anime appearance.

But damn these mods are tempting me to buy. It's also making the wait for VIII unbearable.

So I can't mod this game such as the screens above and keep achievements/overlay/time stats. Is that the case?

I dunno if I want to play FF7 yet again, but if I can mod whilst keeping the above I might go for it.

What resolution is this game running on the PC?

It doesn't have a set resolution, but changing it only impacts the 3D elements (character models and objects on top of the prerendered backgrounds like chests). The prerendered backgrounds are still the low res ones they always were unless you mod in some upressed ones.

In Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn you begin the game in a dungeon, which takes a while to get through. The real meat of the game like in FF7 is when you get to the overworld. So some folks made the Dungeon-Be-Gone Mod.
This mod let's you start right at the exit of the dungeon, with all the loot, xp and quests that go beyond the dungeon. This way you can begin your adventure immediately without hassle. Of course it's for those who replay the game a few times and are sick of that dungeon.

Dumb modding question. I'm currently downloading the 18GB Bootlegger pack. My question is in one of the forum posts it says you need some hefty requirements to get it working. This is an issue for me as I'm running on a crummy old Intel iMac (Core Duo, Radeon X1600 256). All I really wanna do is use like a remastered music mod, maybe a retranslation, and battle models in the field, etc. This shouldn't be a problem as long as I'm not trying to enable a hi-res texture mod or other effects right? I would think even my meager system should be more than capable of running this old ass game with a few of these mods no sweat.

Seeing on another thread that Star Citizen's crowdfunding reached 14 million usd i can only wander how much would a company get if they announced that they got SE's permission to remake FFVII.

Fourteen million won't even cover marketing budget, much less say development for a remake.

Those clamoring for a remake seem to justify the remake as a source of ridiculous amounts of money, but I think that's a dream.

Dungeon be gone is a mod for baldness gate 2 that let's you skip the incredibly long , incredibly linear opening dungeon. For people playing the game again for the 20th time etc it is a godsend. Ffvii could do with a version of this for midgar.

Well maybe, anyway I personally think the midgar section is fantastic and the best part of the game

Baldness gate? Lol

I played through Midgar and a bit of the "main" game. I'm about 7 hours in at the moment and I'm really enjoying the game after not playing it since PS1 days, other than loading up the PS1 classic on my PS3 and giving up after 40 minutes.

I haven't been using any mods or anything so far, but other than the music I've found it to be very playable unmodded. The music is noticably different / bad though even as someone who hadn't played in 15 years. I did get some orignal music files off the steam forums though which should hopefully fix that issue. Apparently you just dump the old .ogg files over the new soundtrack in the directory without the need for any other modifications.

The overworld character models are pretty terrible, but it's the way it used to be, and I can't see using Advent Children character models on 320x240 painted backgrounds. Just running the game in PC resolution makes all the models look cleaner than they do on the PS1 version.

My only other gripe is the fact that it doesn't support Xinput so the D-Pad won't work on a 360 controller without external program trickery. I've just been using my Logitech pad in DirectInput mode because I feel like only using the analog stick seems wrong.

Overall, I feel like it has held up well so far, and I'm enjoying myself quite a bit. If you are on the fence it's worth checking out.

ahahah OMG those screens look like shit

FFVII is defined by the "chibi style" characters, that looks goofy as fuck with advent children style models...

its almost offensive someone would do that on purpose... disgusting

I sadly have to agree - I don't understand why people make the models as lifelike (or AC-like) as possible, even though the game should look more like the NDS remakes of earlier FF games. These would be way better:

I see what you mean now. I never did play that game (although I own it lol) so I didn't get the reference. I guess I don't mind Midgar that much. I think it's just the part that you need to dress Cloud up kind of drags for some reason.

Agreed... Those "AC" like mods look extra terrible to me, especially on those backgrounds...

Also, forget a dungeon-be-gone mod. Someone make me a "everything-be-gone-except-for-end-game-golden-saucer" so I can skip straight to chocobo breeding. Still amazed Squeenix has never thought to make a chocobo breeding/racing game.

That looks really good and stays consistent with the art style.

Which mod is that?

Ugh, those fucking AC-like models. I can't even image FFVII with them, FFVII had a lot of silly stuff that wouldn't work with any other style but the original.

Yeah the AC models do look awful but using the normal battle models for the field looks fine to me.
