Ah, good, there are still some days left for beta3. I stopped when I reached level 10 and didn't get to do all the new stuff that opens up then. So now, I can least try that.
I hope the next client at least lets me save my password.

I see elitistGAF is already forming...

Why would you bother mentioning WotG? How would that even come into your head just because I mentioned that I "guessed" we would see an expansion when the PS4 version ships? That's what happened with the 360 release of FFXI and ToAU. You could even say that's how RoZ was introduced, with the US release.

What elitism are you talking about? I'm referring to the fact that WotG was released as an empty expansion, it took them months and months of updates to actually release content for it, not mentioning that it was already set on existing areas that just required a few cosmetic changes, and even with that it was underwhelming for over 6 or 9 months after its release.

It has nothing to do with elitism, it's was paying £20 for 2 new jobs and a new event in remodelled areas, that had nothing of interest for a long period of time, also the story almost didn't progress in that period of time.

But actually you were right, I'm an elitist with my wallet, if the product is not up to par, then I won't expose my wallet to that.

I think I've asked this before, but as there's a few days left to decide before server transfers stop and I'm not sure if anyone changed their mind... have all the EU folk moved from Sarg to Rag or is there still enough diehards that finding groups at non-US times will be fine?

I actually timed it. It took them 3 years since the release of Wings of the Goddess before they actually completed the main storyline. And yes, the retail disc itself had mere 100's of MB's of information on it. It was just a shell. Probably all of that expansion was updates.

A couple of us will stay on Ragnarok because that's our server from V1, but I don't expect a lot of EU GAFfers (are there that many anyway?) to transfer there.
To be honest, if I didn't have my old LS and friends from V1 on Ragnarok, I think I'd move to Sargatanas.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. In the end the WotG was just on par with XI's quality, the jobs were cool, and it ended up having good content like Campaign, HNMs, VNMs, Succor, Voidwatch, MMM, Meeble Burrows and I might be forgetting something else.

An expansion should have most of the story content in the disc already, and then through updates they can expand on side-quests, new type of events, dungeons, etc.

I mentioned before that Ragnarok should be the unofficial EU-GAF server. I'm there on a spanish LS although I have friends from french LS and some friends here from the UK that will start on Ragnarok by my request.

Yeah well I was actually thinking of you when I mentionned "a couple of us". :P I have a few French friends moving from Sargatanas to Ragnarok too, but they're not on GAF anyway.

Maybe we should consider making a LS on Ragnarok then, nothing too ambitious but welcoming to GAF players.

That's a good idea, my Ls for example wants to have a Free Company, but we have no where near 24 people for the CT/LoB, so although we are going to expand with some people from other places, we'll probably won't be a large FC at the beginning.

PM with your name so I can look for it when phase 4 starts, friendlist you and we can have a LS for GAF members if there's more people on the server.

I've been really loving this beta. Just been playing on my own mostly and used the duty finder for dungeons... (I don't think I'm on the same server as GAF)

It's unfortunate, though, how much I love this game. As the final release is coming at a really inopportune time for me, as I will be back to school as a full-time student in September and I full expect to need evenings and weekends just to study like I did last term.

What do I do, GAF?

Damn MMOs... making me wish I was 14 again

Both. I took 21 credits for two semester straight while raided in WoW 2-3 times a week. Wasn't a big deal.

Welp. I just pre-ordered. Not like it's all that expensive a game anyway. Even if I find I don't have time I just won't pay the sub fee and pick it back up at a later date. :)

So I've been thinking about transferring to another world/server because I have some other friends on there. But to do so, another friend of mine would need to transfer with me (I don't think he'll mind moving to another server). My question is... if we both apply to transfer to a server, will we both 100% transfer over to that new world? I would hate if only one of us made it over there and the other person was left on the old server. That would be incredibly annoying. Does it let you know right away if you'll be able to transfer?

What's with that anyway?

Subligars are a crucial part of the Final Fantasy MMO experience! Can't have a FF MMO without then. ;)

Thrilled that we'll have an expanded test period this time around. Sad because I'll probably only be on that Friday and Sunday. I think I got what I wanted out of the beta in terms of feel for the game and world.

It's been a vast improvement over what I saw in 1.0 and I hope most of the concerns that have been brought up will be addressed within reason.

What's with that anyway?

The trope that less armor is more protective...or something
fan service

Finally played the beta this weekend. I got burned hard on 1.0 (bought the $75 edition) - played about 3 or 4 days and gave up. Checked in a few times over the next year, but it was just never there.

I am AMAZED at how far they've come. The fluidity of the combat and character movement, UI stuff, all that - has just gone miles beyond what they had. I only got to level 10, so I can't say if I'm sold on the combat yet, and a lot of the quests are the worst kind of MMO fluff, but I really enjoyed it.

I could totally see myself subbing for at least a month or two.

So I don't have to buy the game again?

Can I acces the early adopters segment?

It's only for those who actually hold Legacy status, meaning you actually paid the sub during 1.0. This is one of the reasons why I'm preordering it, along with all the cool physical goods that come with the cool CE.

You don't have to buy the game again.

Technically, you can only get the early access if you preorder the game (I think), but... you CAN preorder on Amazon, they send you early access code right away, then cancel your preorder. :x

By early access for preorder does it mean test weekends or like a headstart?

2-3 days headstart by pre-orderding.

Although Beta phase 4 (open beta) is literally a headstart, since progress is kept towards release, but the beta will finish sometime before the official headstart begins, and it should require a new client or at least big update.

Now I'm just thinking about all that rested xp.

With Phase 4 incoming probably within the next month, anyone already get a gameplan in place for how they want to approach their class/job/crafting/gathering?

I'm thinking CNJ and THM to 30, followed by WHM to 50 while side leveling Leather/Cloth, and Botany to start out, then branching out once I've gotten my WHM to cap. Probably level both classes at the same time, but leave the story missions for the CNJ to help level it a bit faster.

It's not really a race to the finish, I just want to focus early on moving towards end-game content, which will hopefully be a lot of fun. The current mid-level stuff has been good so far.

If you do that, do you get (or at least do you think you get) the pre-order vanity items?

As far as I can tell, yes, you still get the pre-order vanity items. The email says:

Visit http://preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com and register. You will be notified via email prior to the launch of the game on when you can return and redeem your preorder code (code listed above) to unlock Early Access to the game along with instructions on how to receive your Cait Sith Doll minion and Moogle Cap digital content.

And when you go on the webpage, it says:

Enter your email address below and we'll notify you when you can return to the site to redeem your code and download the game to get ready for the start of Early Access and play with your in-game items.

So you only get 1 code which supposedly gives you both the early access and the preorder items. If I'm reading it correctly, anyways.

Found out I have another pc beta key, 1st to pm me gets it
Gonna sleep soon so I'll check out whoever gets it tomorrow

Since I have a legacy character with all 7 jobs at level 50, I will only have Arcanist as a battle class to level up, but ACN is not available during phase 4, only at launch.

So I'm going to do all the story quests, without touching any of the sidequests, on something like MRD/WAR or THM/BLM to unlock everything along the way and be ready to do endgame.

ACN will use up all the rested bonus and hopefully equip some of the items I might have gotten from dungeons and quests along the way through the main story.

If I have already reached the endgame phase through the story, then I might start doing some gathering with Botanist since I haven't levelled it up yet.

I'll probably level Conjurer up to the point where I unlock my Chocobo and then get THM to 15. Once I get that done, I'll go back to CNJ, unlock WHM and take it to 50.

I'll probably slowly work on Fisher and Alchemist during all that.

So if you pre-order the game you get early access, right? When does that early access start? Can i play in the beta now? or are they still doing the weekend beta things?

Dying to play this game.

After putting in a decent amount of time in Ph.3 beta, I'll probably have my main be MRD and lvl other classes solely for the shared skills that aid tanking/DDing. I won't be taking on any crafting jobs till I join a Grand Company, solely for that scroll that grants crafting exp. I haven't decided on the Disciples of the Land stuff, but I'm leaning toward Fishing b/c it's mostly likely to be the least popular class within GAF's FC (Ultros).

Woo longer beta times!

Ugh, about having to redo everything again in terms of downloading and having everything not work again for phase 4. D:

Gonna level CNJ first and avoid all Guildhest/Leves, get to 30 on CNJ then switch to THM and use Guildhest/Leves/Ul'dah starting quest to hit at least 22 (Enough levels to cover everything from THM I'll use as additional skills), then from there I'll complete the WHM job quest and head for cap.

Back on my legacy character I was fortunate enough to always have higher levels helping with my AF quest, it's gonna be real interesting doing AF without that help this time around.

Lancer's the only class at 50, and Uldah's the only storyline I didn't do in Beta, so I'm going to go through the story as GLD; perhaps some messing around with MRD at some point as it's both PLD and DRG can use skills from it, as I believe.

I feel so bad about this, like i'm stealing from someone else who preorders late.

But this is some serious gamer self entitlement I feel coming on. I bought the collectors of XIV, I played from day -1 till end and I'll probably pick up the PS4 version.

I DESERVE THOSE VANITY ITEMS DAMNIT

I'd pick Maelstrom if I didn't think Limsa was the most boring city I've ever seen in an MMO. I'll likely stick with Ul'Dah for my Grand Company.

Kind of concerned by the number of CNJs. Maybe I should level THM first instead?

Server overall probably won't be crowded with healers to start. I think it'll be the same for our FC. I'm more certain it'll be dps heavy, followed by tank classes/jobs, then healers coming in third.

Ul'dah for life.

I asked this before, but I don't think I ever got a response. Not sure if anyone knows the answer. But um, I got my Gridanian Grand Company chocobo barding during XIV 1.0, and I heard that when you rejoin a grand company, you get the barding back. But what if I join a DIFFERENT grand company than I had in 1.0? Will I have to save up seals to get the chocobo barding again or will I get the other grand company's barding for free as well? It's a weird question, so I don't know if anyone has had any experience with it yet.

I noticed our legacy characters were available to use this beta phase and all our old inventory that is transferable was available. Will it preserve any levels/XP I accumulate for that character during this phase onto the next? I know it will wipe quest progress and what not, but I started leveling CNJ on my old character thinking it would transfer.

You probably won't be able to use it, same as any other item you might have bought from that GC on 1.0, since those items are GC exclusive.

It's like I have many of them (from Limsa's) on my legacy character, but I wasn't able to equip them until I joined the GC during the storyline.
