Steam Sale - (Overlooked) Indie Game Deals Discussion Thread

Any indie games with combat and dismemberment? I don't always need gore in my games, but I find that it adds a visceral and raw edge to the gameplay. You're not just hitting with swords or fists, you slicing off limbs and decapitating enemies

They Bleed Pixels seems to be like that, and was previously mentioned in this thread. But I haven't played it.

Edit: Not sure how I forgot Hotline Miami, that's a good one.

This game is really fun.
But the hidden fun is in the Free DLC submitted by others. There is really good stuff there.

Am i going crazy, or is that meant to be a location from 2001? Pretty neat.

Don;t know where to ask this so I'll ask in this thread. Is there a way to just tell steam you agree to whatever rubbish it is you have to accept every time you buy something in the market place? I'm sick of missing out on a bargain when I have tick tick that box before purchase.

Chivalry. It is a great dismemberment simulator.

Ask in the main Steam thread ;)

Alright, bought Eador and Deadlight and added about 20-25 games in the past 2 hours or so. More updates tomorrow. Gonna enjoy my vacation a bit more away from my PC until then :p
Have fun guys.

And yet it moves: This is a platformer with an interesting concept. You turn the landscape as it is a paper to change your surroundings. This creates some interesting puzzles but I think puzzles and the platforming are a bit disconnected in this game. 2/5
Thanks for this recommendation. Never heard of it but this is so much my kind of game

Hotline Miami is your game.
Already have it. It is amazing

Looks awesome. Love brutal platformers, on my Wishlist after I pick up Gunpoint and Warband

Chivalry. It is a great dismemberment simulator.
Unfortunately I can't run it.

I'd love someone to convince me to finally learn how to play AIWar. Already own it, but I cant find the motivation to learn it. I'd also love to read how other people liked Delve Deeper. English Country Tune worth it?

I installed AI War but failed to grasp it. And postponed my meeting with it. Already got all the DLC for it and entering each key manually in game is a huge hassle, I wish they fix that.

Delve Deeper is a fun tbs game but it doesn't have too much to offer. You are competing to get most riches with the other player, dig new areas, beat monsters to get that riches. But as I said nothing that you'll play for long term. You'll try it and pass it most likely.

No idea about English Country Tune, couldn't get the time to install it.

So after I get Gunpoint and Warband, this is my Wishlist. Most are indies

And Yet It Moves
Puddle (has anyone played this yet? I recommended, so I'm curious if people like it)
They Bleed Pixels
Medieval 2
Rainbow Six 3 Gold
Dustforce
Fallout 2
Antichamber
Pid
Receiver
Rochard
Sine Mora
Prison Architect (depends on price)

Which two or three would you recommend out of that list?

Chivalry? It went off sale 4 1/2 hours ago, though.

Edit: Didn't realize there was a new page.

Wow... Good thing I didn't get NBA 2K13. Seems like it's the ignored child from 2K as it's missing a lot of the features from consoles.

Anymore indie simcity type of games? I have my eye on Reus whenever it goes on sale. I know about Towns/Tropico.

Mh, for me it would be Fallout 2 / Dustforce / They Bleed Pixels
Fallout 2 is a masterpiece, period. It may be not an indie but who cares, it's one of the best rpg of all time.

Dustforce is amazing (and somebody should write something for the OP about it!) , but it can get really hard, you must perform well to unlock the more advanced stages and this mean you'll have to repeat every single level multiple times untill you find a good trajectory and then you must perform it flawlessly. Personally I never found this tedious because like Super Meat Boy I can repeat the same level hundreds of time in a trance-like state, but it's not a game for everybody. Oh and the soundtrack is charming, really charming.

They Bleed Pixels shares many things in common with Dustforce since it can be described as a point-based Super Meat Boy, but the game is all about combat, you get points killing your foes in the most creative ways (stunning them and then kicking them on spikes, throwing them on air and then smashing them down in an endless pit and so on) and doing some pretty thight platforming, but as I've already stated in this topic the levels are really long compared to SMB or Dustforce so it can get really tiring when you die 50 times in a row just to complete a difficult segment of the stage. Nonetheless it's a very fun game, and if I remember correctly it was you who asked for something violent and gorish and TBP fits perfectly, though the graphics are pretty cartoonish so it's not really unsettling like, say, Hotline Miami can be.

I really hope I wrote something comprehensible and coherent, please excuse me for my horrible english. :((

Thanks. No need for an excuse, your recommendations were well written. They Bleed Pixels looks awesome, wouldn't have found out about it if not for this thread. And I loved SMB, so I enjoy brutal platformers

And weirdly, Dustforce hasn't been discounted (yet)

I'll second a recommendation for They Bleed Pixels. Very good if brutally brutally difficult platformer with beat-em-up elements.

The levels are indeed very long, but when coupled with the difficulty I actually found this to be positive in a twisted way: namely it forced me to actually put an hour or so into the game at a time because I didn't want to lose my level progress.

Off the top of my head, Chivalry, Rooks Keep, Loadout, Cortex Command... Seems like there would be a ton, but for the most part, indie games really aren't all that violent.

Wow. You are slightly psychotic.

Wow. You are slightly psychotic.
Hey, Dead Space, God of War, and Ninja Gaiden are popular series, right? Lol

But I find that kind of stuff adds an element of realism to the gameplay. Especially in a game where you're armed with swords or melee weapons.

But let's not derail this thread. Keep up the indie recommendations, guys. They're all awesome

I'd love someone to convince me to finally learn how to play AIWar. Already own it, but I cant find the motivation to learn it.

It's a cool game -- lots of unique ideas, but it can be a little too complicated for its own good. Lots of concepts aren't surfaced to the player very well.

The main differences from a conventional RTS are:

-Your enemy is a malevolent AI with essentially limitless power. At the beginning of the game, it doesn't consider you much of a threat, but the more you capture territory, the more it pushes back. So you really need to pick and choose your targets -- if you just try to grab everything, the AI will steamroll you with tons of units.

-One side effect of this is that you can kind of control the game pace. The AI mainly reacts to your moves, so if you don't do anything, the difficulty ramp-up is slow. So if you want to take your time, you can almost treat it like a turn-based game.

-Unit count is super huge, games can get into the tens of thousands of units.

-The number of ship types is also pretty large, but you get a random selection each game. You're only guaranteed a few basic units, and others can be discovered at random throughout the game. It's a little like a roguelike, where you're only seeing a subset of the "items" each playthrough.

If that sounds interesting to you, I'd say it's worth a look. It's actually not super hard to pick up, but you'll want to read a bit outside the game because otherwise it's easy to miss some things. I had to do the tutorials, play around a bit, and spend some time poking around the wiki before it really clicked for me.

What's the word on Little Inferno? Been debating on picking it up :(

It's a very quirky, fun and innocent game, I would like not to reveal the mechanics of the game for you because it really puts emphasis on them and really the game is pretty short and relaxing, someone might say it gets monotonous quickly but really I finished it in 3 hours and I took my sweet time.
I'd say pick it if it the price will sink under 2$, the music alone will make it worth it.

Got to say I wishlisted Noitu Love 2: Devolution and was gifted it. Which was great!

But the game is sort of complete garbage :) It is nothing like gunstar heroes really so don't buy/gift on that.

I'll second a recommendation for They Bleed Pixels. Very good if brutally brutally difficult platformer with beat-em-up elements.

Yeah I like it a lot. It does take an investment and you might never really feel "comfortable" with the controls, but it is worth a go for sure.

I would like to recommend:

Super Puzzle Platformer:

$7.99 down to $3.99 http://store.steampowered.com/app/238530/

Blocks fall from the top of the screen and you have to match three or more to make them vanish. Pretty standard stuff, but the twist is that you are controlling your character in the stage, shooting blocks strategically and trying to avoid getting squished. Great little game that you can also try out at adult swim http://games.adultswim.com/super-puzzle-platformer-plus-online-puzzle-game.html

I'd love to get this too, but most impressions on GAF seem to be rather negative. Though watching the trailer, I dont quite get why. Tough one.

The original high expectations due to visual fidelity and overall presentation were brought down by the games overall average gameplay arc.

For $3.75, it is a solid purchase though.

They're not on PC yet, but The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai and The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile on XBLA are, IMO, the best. Hopefully they'll come to PC soon.

Not mentioned here and I'm not sure if these have the level of violence you describe (hopefully they do!), but Bleed and Super House of Dead Ninjas look promising.

Can anyone vouch for Deadlight? Doesn't seem to be any mention in this thread.

It's a Prince of Persia clone(?). The first 20% is really good, the middle 50% has decent puzzles but the pacing is obliterated and the whole section is really weird (and not in a good way, more like a "did another game get smooshed into this?"), and the last 30% was boring. I finished it only because the percentages indicated that after the tiring overlong middle section (iirc there are three acts) I was nearing the end.

Basically it really just isn't that interesting, particularly when Mark of the Ninja came out right around the same time.

I'm interested in Sanctum 2 on steam since I love the action tower defense genre. Anyone know the season pass contains and whether or not it is worth it?

I miss about 50-60 games on that list, Unepic being one of my favourite Indies lately will of course be added eventually.

I watched the Pixabytes gameplay preview on youtube and the game looks great. I'll definitely grab it on the last day of the steam sale in case it gets a surprise discount

The Swapper - $7.49 (50% off)

Puzzle-platformer where you can clone yourself and swap bodies with the clones. As good as the gameplay is, the atmosphere of the setting - an abandoned space station - is where the game really shines. The wonderful claymation graphics and sound design, combined with the questionable ethics of murdering your own clones, makes this a haunting experience.

Hope I did this correctly, as this is a flash sale that will only be valid for the next 8 hours.

^^
You did it right. Too bad my laptop can't run the game. I love physics/puzzle platformers

---
So Gunpoint's Flash/Daily price will mostly likely be $6, right?

What is Warband's likely price? 75% is $4.99, 66% is $6.80

So I narrowed my most wanted after Gunpoint and Warband down to three:

And Yet It Moves
Pid
Nimbus

I would have never found about these games if not for this thread. I definitely would have overlooked Pid and Nimbus. Those games looks so good, especially to a fan of a physics puzzle platformers like me. Thanks for the recommendations

And I'm happy to say that every game I've bought so far during the sale has been an indie: Bastion, Incredipede, Garry's Mod, Cargo Commander, Puddle. Those last two, I had never heard of before this thread.

(Would GMod be considered indie? Sure it's a mod for AAA games, but it's certainly not a mainstream game and I think it's only made by one guy)
