Steam Summer Sale 2013 Thread #3 - Many questions answered in the OP's FAQ

Ah didn't notice that, sorry.

I would say their most approachable game is probably either Avernum: Escape from the Pit or Avadon: The Black Fortress. And of those two, Avadon is probably the most accessible as it is the more linear experience. I'd pick either one based on how much you enjoy open-ended exploration and gameplay.

Ah linearity is not something that I really enjoy at all. I assume they're all separate and that the story lines have no bearing on each other?

Same here, it looks pretty awesome in a not-the-normal-game-I'd-play kind of way.
It reminds me of when I used to find the populated roads in older racing games and just abandon the races and drive through all the traffic. I might end up grabbing this one tonight.

Funny you say that, because lately I've been doing just that in ETS2. By this point in the game I own a few garages and two dozen trucks with drivers hired, so if I lose money on a delivery I'm driving I don't really care too much. So I've been taking jobs with lots of leeway on delivery times and then I proceed to take the "scenic" way there. Instead of sticking to the fastest route which is usually the highways I instead take country or mountain roads that I've never been on before. The scenery in the game can be awesome. Plus, I want to try and get 100% explored on my map, and I'm only at like 68% or so right now, so I've got some exploring to do yet.

So I just bought and downloaded Euro Truck Simulator 2. I run the game and this pops up.

Which should I choose?

Far Cry Blood Dragon
Splinter Cell Conviction

ok bye thanks steam

It is not bad in singeplayer, just don't expect to be blown away. I am a pretty big fan of ARPG so I try most of them out and I would say Van Helsing is average. You have a much smaller set of skills to work with (2-4 usually) and the main mechanic is powering up those skills with different modifiers. The main problem is to use the modifiers you have to have rage which you generally only get from killing enemies so boss fights are pretty dry and tedious.

If you are an ARPG fan and don't mind using the same small subset skills the whole game then I think the setting is interesting enough to take a look. That being said, if someone was considering getting this instead of Torchlight 2, that would be a monumental mistake.

Thanks, sounds like I should keep my cash and finally play T2. :)

Good news everyone!

I just heard back from my contacts at Valve, and they have agreed to make the code changes I requested on the "Account Details" page. This should resolve issues people are having with their account totals not calculating correctly if your language isn't set to English.

They said they don't push code changes during the sale so it'll be a couple of days until this is fixed.

My XCom says it has the Pre-order Pack:

Is that the same as the "The Elite Soldier Pack"?

Is there a way I can easily see in game?

Anyone else think that with the dailies / flashes / community votes we've seen all the deals we're going to see? The repeats are becoming more and more common like the tail end of the last big sale.
Yeah, I'd like to be reminded of when the possibility of seeing anything new ends too. I forget if it's normally the last weekend that becomes a recap weekend, or just Sunday.

Itching to pull the trigger on a few wishlist games, but that giant all-caps flashing text in the OP leaves me unsure.

I try to divorce my feelings about a publisher's, or creator's, politics from the games I'm buying. I like this game, this experience is worth what you are asking for it; here you go, what little I gave you (I'm a cheapskate, and steam is enabling me) hopefully compensates for your troubles, and please keep making more.

I'm thinking about getting Infestation just to mess with the people in game. Can you pull zombie trains like in DayZ?

Edit: I know full well how terrible it is. I was there in the thread when it got pulled from steam.

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodline
Rouge Legacy
Far Cry Blood Dragon
Splinter Cell Conviction

ok bye thanks steam

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodline [Certainly probable]
Rouge Legacy [Too new for a futher discount]
Far Cry Blood Dragon [Too new for a further discount/already discounted pretty heavily considering]
Splinter Cell Conviction [Certainly probable]

Avadon is distinct. The Avernum games all take place in the same world and there is some continuation in the storyline. Escape from the Pit is a remake of the first Avernum (which in turn was a remake of the first Exile), so that'd be a good place to start.
