Dark Souls is the worst PC port I ever played.

Where do I fucking begin? I'm playing at 1920×1080 resolution and the game plays in a fucking box, I've seen textures that look like the belonged in a ps1 game, performance is so poor even thought I'm running a i7 with a GTX 670.

Fuck this game, who the hell wanted this pos on PC, From Software should stay far away from making PC ports.

Install DSFix

Suddenly it is the greatest PC port ever made

:lol it really isn't.

The port is absolutely garbage. Grade A++ level shit.

DSFix makes it a lot better but that's a mod from the community. The devs fucked up, didn't care, did nothing to help and left the community to do their job.

So yea, it's a shit port but the community is great.

With 5 minutes of effort you can make the PC port the definitive version of the game.

No reason at all to bitch about the original port.

With DSfix, it's great.

I even played through most of it without the fix, and at least it's not buggy and crashy. Stability-wise, it's actually quite good.

Without DSFix, it's the 360 version with a better framerate, somewhat worse network connectivity, and the DLC included. (The KB/M controls are bad enough that I like to pretend they don't exist.)

With DSFix, it's a surprisingly nice-looking game that approaches "playable bullshot" levels of gorgeous with enough downsampling, SMAA, and AO.

Yeah, it's by far the worst port in recent memory. Durante saved it, but the original version is downright shameful for professional video game developers. It even has GFWL as the rotten cherry on top of the shitcake.

I remember some areas like Undead Asylum having pretty impressive textures. Sen's Fortress on the other hand... :/
Yeah, it was clear that they just used whatever texture would look good at the console's resolution, and it's only by chance that some are better quality than others.

There are many bad points about the PC port, especially without the mod, but bad textures and bad performance (not that is is very good or anything) are not really one of those points.

another recent shitfest was redfaction guerrilla.

mass effect 1 was all kinds of bad too even with the additions. had to quicksave every few minutes because the game just loves to crash.

Try saints row 2
This and SR2 are the biggest piece of shit ports I have experienced.

Luckily DS was saved by the community. SR2 is still a heap of steaming garbage that should be removed from sale.

GTA IV was shit to start with but it's absolutely fine now. Pretty sure RS fixed it. They didn't abandon it like some other devs.

Thankfully Durante saved the Dark Souls port. It's beautiful now.

If you wanna talk about bad ports, Saints Row 2 had constant crashes and I couldn't even beat the game cause one of the final missions wouldn't pop

who the hell wanted this pos on PC
I did!
From Software should stay far away from making PC ports.
No. Well, they can stay away from PC ports if they instead make the PC version the lead version. Which they say they are doing for DS2.

Also, I'd say the textures aren't any worse than the vast majority of current-gen PC ports. You admittedly can't see much of them in the vanilla version.

In my opinion, a fan made fix no matter how good cannot justify making such a bad port.
Or you know... the port isn't that bad, and it's the only way some people can play the game.

When people talk about gamer entitlement, the hyperbole this game generates is the perfect example.

Considering this thread is on GAF, it's kind of spooky that this guy was apparently ignorant of DSfix/DSCfix. I wonder how many people bought this game and suffered through it without these great fixes.

Is DSfix hosted in multiple places? I hope there is some way to know whether most people played the proper version of this game or not.

Google DSfix and Durante's blog pops up. You can get it at Dark Souls Nexus as well. But yea, it's floating around cuz pretty much anyone playing the PC port needs it.

I remember people thought early reports were the result of translation errors. I can't blame them, locking the resolution hasn't been a thing since 1998.

Still, glad everything worked out.

The port is atrocious. One of the worst this generation without DSfix.

It doesn't. It just lets people play the game in an acceptable state. It doesn't make the job From did any less disappointing. The underlying game is amazing so for many it's worth the effort.
