howlongtobeat.com shut down?

It's very useful, for instance I just recently looked up Ni No Kuni because as a working adult I only have so much time to dedicate to games.

Unfortunately Ni No Kuni had an absurd play time so I don't think I will be purchasing it.

I was convinced that you are a student for some reason lol
I guess you learn something new every day.

Hey guys, I own the site. When my site gets hit heavy Netfirms suspends the account. It's a clustered service so when my site is getting hit hard it bogs down all the others I share with. I've recently paid them extra to support 3 times the database connections since the is my biggest issue but apparently it isn't enough.

Anyone know any good hosting services that manage the server for you? I don't want to have to focus on maintaining a server while also programming a site and managing a database. It's the main reason I've stuck with Netfirms.

I previously purchased a dedicated hosting service and found that maintaining the server myself was a lot of work. I decided to pay Netfirms extra with a "secret" plan that they have, only available to people who ask but apparently it wasn't enough.
It sounds like you really don't want to/have the time, but I really recommend going the VPS route or dedicated server route (generally more expensive). As with my experience, any normal shared hosting will just take you for your money and run with it, and still limit you.

A VPS service or above would be better. I used to use stormondemand.com until I shut down my main website that was using it. I have no idea how much traffic you seem to get, but mine was just using a 4GB VPS server slice easily with all the simultaneous traffic it would get at once. But I'm sure your's would be much bigger resource then mine. At any moment at my peek, my site used to get 10k to 50k simultaneous hits. But, my site was more of a relay sort of site (think of a 1-hit spam server... :lol ), so I heavily optimized my server to reflect this, even had my DB as static stored in Memcache. I would randomly guess your site would be more heavy on traffic then mine ever was. I recommend looking into Storm On Demand.

You mentioned you already have a server, so that kinda takes you a step forward. Did you buy the server and it's hosted somewhere else? Or did you buy it and it's in you're own physical location?

Does it have Steam integration or do you need to manually add the games to your account?

I have only used backloggery so I am sorry if I am asking an obvious question.

Since the guy who runs it is here, please add a text only option (how it used to be). Browsing through 50+ pages of pretty pictures isn't very intuitive if you just want to browse the list.

How else would I trash Quantic Dream on a continual basis?
I know bro <3
Hopefully Beyond delivers so you don't have to do that.

Unfortunately I just finished the Winter section of TLoU. I tried my best to hate the game, but that section was just too damn good and now I love it too. Furiously I had to lower my expectations for Beyond and now it probably won't be my GOTY, since GTA V looks pretty damn good too :(

Oh well, I'm still excited :D

Winter is so good!

I just added Beyond to my shopping cart on Amazon, if it's bad I'm blaming you.

I was getting it anyway

I get around 150k unique visitors a day, with up to a million page views. I had a dedicated server through a company 1&1 but dropped it after a month because I was hoping the additional plan with netfirms would work out.

I only make about $250 a month off of my one google ad and it takes a ton of work to maintain the site. I love my community and working on the site itself, it's more of a hobby but I have a full time job outside of this. I don't want to lose any money with hosting and domain fees.

Damn, only 250 a month? I gotta start clicking on those ads...

This thread introduced me to this website.

Because of this, I've now started writing down all of the games I've beaten, and will continue to add on as I beat more.

$250 a month for close to 1M page views a day sounds crazy low. That's like $1/100k views. To others that run websites, is this a typical payment rate?

This would be greatly appreciated. Used to love to just pick up a letter and go through all the games and see the different times.

One of the best sites I use and wouldn't mind donating some if there's a need.

Throw on some more adds.

Unfair that you make so little.

An extension that works with the steam site would be amazing. Someone has to do it.

I think the developer of Enhanced Steam is a GAF member too, maybe both devs can work something out if they want to so it could be added to the extension. It'd be a great feature.

The title startled me a bit. I used the website just the other day, and quite a bunch of times in the last couple of months. It's very useful for planning which games I can play if I look at my schedule.

I admit I am not really up to speed on this sort of thing, but it sounds rather low. Have you considered upping the amount of advertisements?

Ah, good thing it's only temporary.
That site is extremely useful for backlog managing, which reminds me. I should update my backloggery...

EDIT: Eh... last update in January, I don't think I'll bother :p
EDIT 2: Made an account on HLTB, my backlog is at 394 hours and that's only a small fraction of it! *help!*
