PS4 Has Fifty Percent Lead Over Microsoft's Xbox One, Says Strategy Analytics Survey

If the PS4 sells even slightly more than the Xbone in the US, then then worldwide split is going to be 2:1.

So if Sony sells 100 mil consoles this gen and MS sells 50 mil, is that a failure for them or is having 50 mil Live Gold revenue subscribers with targeted Kinect advertising exactly what they're shooting for?

All right am I the only one who wonders why a 74 year old was surveyed at all?

That seems unnecessary

I think the PS4 will win the initial install base battle almost guaranteed

Will be interesting to see how the first two years pan out though

From Amazon:

Playstation 4's current ranking -- #4
Xbox One's current ranking -- #51

Until the two systems are at price-parity, I'd say the PS4 is at a pretty heavy advantage. I'm surprised the disparity between the two is so great right now though.

And analysts also said the PS3 was going to crush the 360, where's that chart again. Also according to everyone, the Wii was going to be a total flop.

I think i'll wait and see.

This isn't an analyst, this is a survey. Big difference. This is a bunch of people who talked to 2000 Americans and 4000 Europeans and asked "Do you intend to buy the PS4?" and "Do you intend to buy the Xbone?". If I had $500 to piss on an internet argument, I would buy the report and leak like hell.

I wouldn't overestimate this... we'll probably see a neck to neck competition over the ps4 and xbox one especially with MS behind the scenes back peddling with their policies... I'd also assume that a small amount of people would buy the xbox one without looking at the competition even with the competitions lowered price since the xbox has created a namesake/community in the U.S and unlike the PS2 majority transferring to the ps3/360 era there are two advantages MS has:

1. being able to have a online subscribed community of die hard shooter fanatics (particularly some of the COD crowd)

2. Not suffering a late launch where their main competitor can be in the market for a whole year

Didn't one of their execs say they wanted to sell 1 billion units
:p
I can't imagine them selling less then they sold this gen as a success, their whole device is about being a living room experience to appeal to the masses. They thought they were past being just a "video game" device and transcend the brand into a more "entertainment, TV, living room" mass market type deal.

I think it'll be the price and price alone that will be a giant differentiator.
I mean, a hundred bucks is no fucking joke. Not for gamers, not for casuals, not for parents looking to buy their kids a big christmas gift.

The run up to the launches, and the months after are going to be hilarious.

The first thread I read today was some guy saying the XO was going to outsell the PS4 3-1 , now we have some market research suggesting 2-1 in favour of Sony.

I'm a little confused

Are you saying its a benefit to Microsoft NOT to have the year lead like this gen?

Wait what? PS4 is not releasing in Japan this year?

I'm not sure it's been confirmed or denied. With all the rumors of Sony having good supply, I can't imagine them not trying to launch this year (unless there's no software ready for Japan)

Number 2 is Sony's advantage buddy.

1. Battlefield sold better on PS4 than 360. Shooter fanatics are automatically Xbox owners?

2. What does that one even mean?

We'll probably see at TGS, although I would be surprised if Sony doesn't launch in Japan this year. After all a) most of the negative rumours about the PS4 has proven to be untrue, b) rumours of lots of supply.

FORBES LIED TO ME

I'm curious how the next generation will play out, in the current one PS3 got an ass whooping IMO.
I mean in just a single generation MS sold almost as many Xbox 360 (good for MS obviously) as the PS3, but at the same time it came at the cost of the PS brand.

Maybe I had too high hopes for another 100m+ console sold by now...

But I heard people were cancelling their PS4 pre orders for the X-One after the 180?
/s

Good thing you put /s, I had people accusing me of being a Microsoft astroturfer because im a junior and I made a similar comment jokingly in the ps4 preorder thread =P

"Methodology: Strategy Analytics conducted an online survey"

Thats when I stopped reading, this is about as believable as Microsoft shipping 3 to 1 versus Sony

No... what I'm meant to say is MS is launching their console at about the same time as Sony... therefore unlike Sony (from the PS2 era) they won't suffer by losing their previous fan-base to their competitor

Example being how people couldn't wait for the ps3 and went and bought the 360 since it was the only next gen console on the market

Sony is being smart. They are keeping up with supply and the price is $100 cheaper, so that means they will have bigger install base right from the start.

The X360 was our a year ahead of the PS3, thus catching some/many of the people with PS2s looking to transition into next-gen at the time

What does that have to do with advantages between XBO and PS4? Isn't that what's being discussed here? And you're trying to say that is a current positive for MS heading into this next gen?
