PS4 Has Fifty Percent Lead Over Microsoft's Xbox One, Says Strategy Analytics Survey

haha yeah that's what I mean I guess

The X1 actually has some really cool potential for a multimedia device, I just am hesitant to believe it will work as advertised and even more hesitant to believe that it will work like people want it to work like

If an X1 can integrate with an cable companys box/DVR correctly and give me all the same functionality as the cable box but within the X1 that would be a game changer imo

BUT there are so many other failed examples of this sort of idea like google tv

The cable industry is incentivized to kill new incomers to the market to hold onto their own market-share and self-worth

I have doubts the X1 will deliver on the TV aspect like MS want it to

Especially as you mentioned outside the US

What little we've been shown so far (changing channels, channel search, browsing) I don't doubt will work just fine... but to people like me who haven't had TV service for years and don't really care for live TV, this is all meaningless.

As soon as they announce an underpowered box and forced the price up to shoehorn in an unwanted Kinect this was sadly inevitable.

I've used the 360 so little anyway since they have up on new ideas that I won't miss it.

I'm another of the former Xbox fans who naturally moved over to the 360. I did own all the consoles but it was my main one. They have totally screwed this up though. In the last couple of years I have become mainly pc with some ps3. For next gen I plan to be pc only until ps4 has a big library and bundles. I don't plan to ever own an Xbox one.

Yeah I have cable tv but so rarely watch it

Usually just watch things on my computer as its easier and on demand etc.

The market is certainly moving away from live tv but I think there's still a market to tap into there

My point was more along the idea that as the X1 stands I don't think it will be that appealing to those who want to "simplify" their tv experience as I don't think it will

MS is making a lot of bets with the X1, we'll see which ones pay out and by how much?/

The market is still there for live TV integration, for now. They're marketting this thing to last for a potentially 7 year generation though.

They keep painting this picture like nobody will buy a X1.

A good chunk of that 77 million does not like Playstation.

Should be interesting though.

"Does not like Playstation?" For what reason?

I'd argue that most people hopped on the 360 train early because it was way cheaper and it had a year to itself on the market. That is not at all what's happening this year, in fact, the roles are reversed when it comes to pricing.

Same reason folks dont like Xbox.

You like what you like.

Yeah I have a feeling that when the next next gen??? (like PS5 XB2 etc.) come out the tv features of the X1 will be a moot point for most

I'm finding the success of some of the made-for-Netflix tv shows interesting as most are released a season at a time and not weekly installments or anything

It's small but I see that as real innovation for TV, MS's solution is one of veiled convenience

So will have to see people use it in real life before I pass final judgement

I think the vast majority of those 77 million don't hold that opinion though. They just want the best value for money. This generation will be no different.

I think console loyalty isn't nearly as big a factor as you imply it is.

Back to where we were with ps2 and no competition, not good for a consumer who doesn't love these corporations.

How would it be "no competition"? The cycle would begin anew giving MS and Nintendo another crack at Sony in 5-7 years time.

Sony meanwhile has already pissed away consumer goodwill pretty near overnight with the PS3 after two dominant generations, with Hirai now in charge I don't expect to see them turn back into out of touch and complacent Sony after just one good console generation.

Also, the PS1 and PS2 eras were some of the best in console gaming history even with Sony's market dominance. In fact, the PS2 generation when Sony had an iron grip for the second cycle in a row was when Sony offered full PS1 BC, DVD playback, $40 first party titles, and funded development of games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, etc..

If anything dominant Sony is the least obtrusive market leader we can ask for. They just sit back and collect royalty checks, letting 3rd parties do their thing. With PSN and a indie/small studio groundswell coming this generation that mindset from the dominant first party will only be that much more beneficial to all involved.

Yep, pretty much. I guess it's moreso that when the PS1/PS2 were dominating the market, more games that were to my tastes were coming out back then. Ironically I think that benefited the other systems around at that time, looking at a good chunk of their selection.

I really don't care which system dominates the market, but I do have a feeling PS4 will better generate games to my tastes (tho ironically right now Xbone is doing that a bit better w/ Crimson Dragon and even Killer Instinct, but only b/c that's a fighting game.)

Slightly off topic but if our psn accounts carry over from ps3 to ps4 then will we be able to see our friends online playing ps3 games and vice versa??

I'm not sure if that's being clarified

Anyone know if you can chat between PS4 and PS3?

Or between X1 and X360 for that matter?

Brb, girding my loins for the incoming shitstorm

ok, go
