Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

RE: people picking goty based on story. It is unfortunate that people still think of videogames in terms of "story" and not "atmosphere". I wonder how many years it will take to get there.

aesthetics and narrative are pretty much interchangeable in a visual medium. or is that the point you're making?

again, kane and lynch 2 supremacy.

I don't understand all the praise The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gets. Sure, it is a great game -- one of the N64's best -- but it greatly benefits from rose-tinted glasses.

The gameplay is still solid. Introduced to younger kids, and they still like it today, even though they didn't play it when it came out.

GameStop is a fine store.

Sounds like this kid doesn't understand principle. Yeah, the store is made quite well, I have to agree, I couldn't have designed it. t(ツ)_/¯

Assassin's Creed III is the worst game I have ever played and I played Fable III. Also, the AC series is becoming less and less AC than ever.

Bioshock Infinite gameplay was a chore.

Giant boobs on women in video games is annoying. I'm a male.

Battlefield has become complete garbage.

Heavy Rain was horrible. I felt insulted.

All next gen launch titles look like trash-garbage-poopoodookie.

I get what your saying despite your mis-labeling (I think you meant 3D), but Third person fighting games makes me think how awful first-person fighting games would be.

At least they're cooler to watch in most cases. Specifically thinking about the Naruto Storm and DBZ Tenkachi games when compared to stuff like competitive Street Fighter.

I think first person would be an interesting challenge. That being said I like the free-flow style fighting in the Arkham games better than any 2d fighting game I've ever played. 2d always ends up in button mashing.

Edit: unclear it

If you're coming from a "because Western developers" angle, I think that would have happened even without the Xbox. The Xbox definitely sped things up, though.

nope...I'm coming from the angle that their policies are horrible. they introduced pay to play online, halo is god awful...their games are geared toward any NRA member. Not enough variety in their games...batteries in controllers? pay to change your gamertag? the MS points system....just feel like they nickel and dime you to death...and the xbox 1 will be no different. when the new system comes out the support they give to the previous system is non existent.

  • Tomb Raider sucks (the new one) big time. Laura is very annoying and gameplay is dry.
  • Okami is very boring. I put in a good 5 hours before I called it quits. The combat system is awful too.

There are real shortcomings, but they're minor and hella specific and saying they easily outweigh the benefits is laughable. Stuff like adaptive vsync not being a thing until last year, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, it being too easy to blind-buy shitty hardware (lol).

As a great lover of Okami, I can say that the intro is very slow and it drags a bit towards the end, but it all works towards an amazing pay-off.

Gears of War is a terribly average game...forced myself to try to like the first two and still don't know wtf the game was about.

Resistance: FOM is the only game I've played for more than 20hrs online this generation. And still has my fondest memories of online play.

LBP has horrible controls...except for the Vita version.

My favorite Killzone is the first one.

MGS needs to die.

Bungie is overated.

All Call of Duty games after MW suck ass.

But we're not discussing movies.
I just find it silly that some people still judge visual and tactile forms of entertainment solely by script. Just like movies should be judged by their acting, camera-work, effects, pacing, etc, in addition to a script, games should be judged by their animations, controls, level design, graphics, etc. in addition to just writing.

I actually agree with the second point, to some extent.

I don't think it's lame, but I definitely prefer using a controller.

Different strokes but the implication of it being included as an example of a silly point was that almost every pc game released in the past few years with a few exceptions(Ie Mass Effect 3) can be played with a controller.

Now you're speaking my language.

PCs are terrible gaming systems. The so-called 'Master Race' have simply been trained to accept its numerous shortcomings.

"Shortcomings" such as better online, better framerate, better resolution, mods, and using any controller you desire.

Yep

Before you go accuse me of anything, I love console and handheld gaming and have no issues with them. But your post is just plain ignorant.

This really is a terrible thread, people just drive-by post "controversial" things and often don't return.

It's fine to think Bioshock Infinite is the worst game ever made or that Vampire Rain is underrated but at least explain your reasoning. Slight exaggeration
thinking either of these things is not ok

woah there with those super controversial gaf opinions, I could have swore gaf loved AC3 and Heavy Rain. Also, do women in real life with giant boobs annoy you? Quit stigmatizing women with large breasts.

I mean isn't this just the most infuriating thing ever

Long list:

  • Tomb Raider 2013 is one of my favorites this year
  • Yakuza Dead Souls was a lot of fun
  • Sleeping Dogs > GTA4
  • Red Dead Redemption was so boring after you land in Mexico, that I didn't even finish the game
  • GTA5 didn't impress me much
  • Final Fantasy 13-2 was also a lot of fun
  • PC gaming is overrated and overpriced

There. I said it.

:)

PCs are simply not designed for games. There's far too many hardware and software configurations for anybody to test against, inevitably leading to glitchy games. I abandoned serious PC gaming when HL Episode 1 started crashing every 30 minutes, and no amount of re-installing or updating drivers would fix it. Just now my PC had a major angst attack whilst trying to update Flash.
Gaming on a PC is like entering an F1 race in a van powered by rocket engines. Sure, you'll burn past everyone on the straights, but good luck in the corners.

Obviously there's an element of facetiousness in this post, but I generally game on console for the simple convenience of it.

Okay. So how are console superior? Go on. Humor us.
They're more convenient... Or at least they were more convenient before every game and their mother started implementing mountains of DLC.

PC gaming looks more attractive every generation that consoles keep trying to be inferior PCs.

That's really about it. Besides plug and play, there are no other benefits. And this is coming from a life long console gamer.

The people who praise Sony and bash Nintendo are the biggest hypocrites because Sony copies Nintendo so much that they are pretty much buying Nintendo products with different coats of paint and different name branding.

Microsoft is a better gaming hardware maker than Sony because they at least have some originality, which shocked me because Microsoft built its empire on knock offs.

Everything in the PS4 lineup is just more of the same stuff you got on the PS3 with a little bit more sheen.

Killzone was never a good game in any iteration. It is an always will we be the pale imitation of Halo for Sony hardware that it was originally promoted as on the PS2.

GDDR5 is worthless as system memory or anything other than graphics like it was built to be used for.

Microsoft and Nintendo are the only companies releasing console that offer more than just what you got last time with more polygons and lighting. This has been Sony's trend 3 gens running.

Vita is an even more unremarkable handheld than the PSPGo.

Sony's obsession with having the highest specs will be its end.

If you don't game on the PC, you are not a hardcore gamer.
