Cittie of York has a bunch of smallish booths that run the length of the (very long) bar area, which could be hopped between, but also there's plenty of standing room next to them for spillage. Alternatively, there's a room off to the side which is ample size for ~25 people at various tables which could be a good area to congregate. Obv I'm bias because I live nearby and the booze is super cheap which I LIKE but I think it'd be a decent place. It's like a 15 minute walk to Tottenham Court Road.

I did consider Meltdown the only problem is it's not very central so would be a pain for some people to get to.

You really should. The Fringe is pretty fantastic and Edinburgh has much more life than normal.

I love the Fringe, it's definitely worth a visit. Getting accommodation at short notice could be a bit of a nightmare unless a kind GAFfer steps in. The university might possibly have spare rooms and they put on a hell of a breakfast.

During Summer the Uni's rent out the student halls to people. It's worth a shot. Hotels here get snapped up really fast. Another good bet would be to look up festival lets on Gumtree. Some people rent their flats out in rooms instead of the whole flat at once.
