Believe it or not but the statue is rather cheap and chintzy. Really the only thing cool about it was the box it came in.

How is the statue cheap? As in it's not resin or PVC? I think it's a pretty nice reward.

I'm obviously new to this and want to make sure I understand before spending any coins.

Correct, your platinum status is a function of coins earned in the year not your current total.

All that matters for Gold/Platinum status is the amount of coins earned during the Club Nintendo year (July 1-June 30). It doesn't matter how much you spend or what your coin balance is.

Partly it's a function of me wanting to do something with my coins. I'm in Australia, so I can really only take advantage of digital rewards and games I want are few and far between.

If you needed a Canadian to pick something up for you in Alberta I can't help you there. I thought the issue may have just been an issue with the account address and you needed a valid address to put there, not a place to pick up a reward. (if that was the problem...?)
