Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

We are exactly one month away from GTAV. Can you believe that shit? Feels like I'm dreaming.

Also found out one of the biggest game stores in the country is doing a midnight launch, which is HUGE since they usually only do that for Call of Duty. I've been to one of those once and I swore I'd never go again.

..but I'm going, haha!

I still don't really understand the way this works.

So I have a garage and an appartment and money and stocks.

But I don't always play with the same guys, instead it's going to be random to some degree.

How do they prevent several people from owning the same appartment and similar stuff?

I'm wondering this too. Maybe they're going to make huge buildings with the same/similar apartments of various floors. Would be pretty neat if you had your own personal view of the city like that.

So I've been thinking about the race and deathmatch creator in GTA Online. There's some serious potential here if the creation stuff is as flexible as I'm hoping. For deathmatches am I allowed to make players spawn in vehicles? If so I'm totally doing a deathmatch totally dedicated to dogfighting in the Hydra. Am I allowed to put spawn points anywhere I like? Including somewhere randomly in the sky? Then I'll make a deathmatch where players fall from the sky and shoot each other while parachuting. There's so much potential for crazy shit with player created deathmatches if the creation stuff is flexible enough.

And races? So much potential for awesomeness if you can place checkpoints anywhere you like and place objects and vehicles anywhere you want. Start off dirt biking on a mountain and place a big ramp and send people flying off the mountain. Have checkpoints placed in specific places in the sky forcing people to jump off the bike in mid air and parachute through them. Then make players drop in the water and swim to the boats I've placed on water. Place a bunch of obstacles for players to swerve around as they go through the checkpoints while on the boat. Place a massive ramp launching the boats back on land and place some cool fast sports cars at said place. Have a fast sprint to the finish line in those cars. Place some weapons at various points in the race to spice things up. That's just one example. I'm sure people will come up with way cooler stuff than that. But yeah, there's loads of potential with the player created stuff. I very much look forward to seeing what people come up with and making some stuff myself.

It's probably going to be instanced. I doubt everyone will have their own unique apartment.

OT of the forever.

I'm seriously blown away by what they're offering with this game. I had some decent fun with a few friends with GTA 4's free roam but the main complaint we all had was there wasn't anything to really do, because the game itself was stripped down compared to past GTAs but then when you went to free roam what little content 4 had was taken away for that mode (RDR had the same problem pre-DLC). So your options were extremely limited. But now it seems almost impossible that they're offering so much to do with so many creative aspects to it. The editor alone could be huge if you're creative enough. Imagine making races that use all 3 forms of travel, stretched out through the city and the mountains, and mixing in some base jumping at certain points? God damn.

I'm glad it's releasing two weeks later too. I didn't understand it right away but it makes sense to let people sit back and enjoy the equally ambitious single player first without this behemoth online mode looming over you and having friends constantly bug you to stop playing SP and get yourself completely overwhelmed by MP. It seems like this mode is designed to be like a MMO and keep you playing forever, so let us have a few weeks to finish the main game first. It's a great decision by Rockstar.

I agree it has to be this. GTA is finally back.

Derrick's back! I remember when the gameplay video came out wondering if you were looking forward to this.

Welcome back, man. Just in time for the home stretch leading up to release.

Welcome back.
That was an unusually long ban.

Definitely am, and I loved the single player trailer too. I feel very extremely satisfied that this game is guaranteed to be a ton better than GTA 4.

Welcome back.
That was an unusually long ban.

Yeah and it was a mistake too. Due to the ban message I'm pretty sure it was for this post http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=54251604&postcount=106

Basically a mod thought I went into that thread and was calling people sad and pathetic. But I was agreeing with the person I quoted about the Wii U and that its best game being a really old game was sad. Admittedly I could have phrased it better so there was no chance at confusion, but I wish I would have been given a chance to clarify before eating a massively long ban. Eh but what are you gonna do right? I'm just glad it's over now.

As I said in the other thread, after watching these two trailers and looking over the achievements, I don't see how anyone can still be worried that GTA V will end up being another GTA IV.

They clearly brought the fun back with GTA V. Can't believe it's only 4 weeks away.

Yeah those are people who are being a pain in the ass and not paying attention. They assume that this will be the same because they didn't like 4, which makes no sense at all but you can't reason with them if they're going to refuse to watch the trailers and just keep spouting that bullshit.

I hated GTA 4 and you'll have a tough time finding someone who hates it more than me but I watched the trailers and read the previews. The game is already way better than 4 just going by what we know is in the game. It may not be as good as San Andreas was for its time, I won't know that until I see the mission design, but saying it's better than 4 is a no brainer by now.

Why not to worry:

Rockstar have released a trailer called the " official gameplay" which not only shows A LOT of features, activities and content that we all expect, but shows how far above and beyond this game will be ( detail, airplanes, map size, wildlife, random encounters, vehicle count, customisation etc... are not only returning but are improved a lot)

For gta iv we ASSUMED all that stuff was gonna return because of SA, even though the trailers never really showed any of that to be in game in the first place.

V has shown this stuff is returning.

Pretty simple.
If you wanna stay sceptical, even though they have shown and pretty much PROVED that the good stuff is returning through the trailers and previews, then go ahead. This isn't like IV, were the trailers and previews were all about Niko/ the protagonist.

( this message isn't a response to you, but to those who say that and are sceptical)

Indeed. There's still some realism in the game, like there was in IV, but GTA V is going to be more lighthearted and colorful, like VC and SA. And the amount of distractions and things to do outside of the main missions looks to rival even SA. It surpasses it when you add GTA Online.

I don't know why I keep checking this thread. I go in expecting new tidbits of info on the game and all I see is people cheering for that OT name.

It's pretty awesome though.

last of us who?

That game will be worthy of every award it gets later this year, and I'm sure it'll get a few since it seems like it's going to be a 2 way battle between that and GTA.

But man if Rockstar actually delivers and the PS3 version isn't a huge mess technically then it'll be hard for me to vote against it. San Andreas but with modern graphics, controls and an almost MMO type online system? It's too much for me.

I'm a little worried about how much there is to do on the side though. The achievement list was a little short on SP side achievements so I'm hoping a lot of what you can do in the game isn't marked with an achievement/trophy. Granted, like I said earlier it's already guaranteed to be better than 4 so that's all I'm asking for but it would be great to have a game that dethrones San Andreas as the greatest open world game ever.

I said out loud "but who didnt play sa?"... but then again gaf.

I only played it for about an hour. Got a 5 Star (or was it 6?) wanted level and somehow glitched through one of the barriers into one of the locked areas. Managed to race all the way around to the airport then quit and never played it again.

Never played SA, does it hold up?

On PC with player-made mods like 1080p and the program that locks the framerate limiter to 60 fps instead of 24 makes it playable and using a PS2 controller. It's still really fun even though it's far from realistic like this new game is going for.

Never played SA, does it hold up?

Yes and no. Mechanically it does not because the ps2 GTAs had some pretty shit shooting systems, although if you play it on PC it's much better with the mouse. Graphically it's pretty ugly too but it is a 2004 open world game.

But talking strictly about gameplay there still hasn't been an open world game that offered as much variety with its side content and (more importantly, for me anyway) the mission design. You can go from doing gang wars and securing territory to customizing your car to flying a jetpack to chasing a wannabe rapper in a hovercraft to flying a fighter jet to planning a casino heist to attempting to ride a dirtbike down a huge mountain without falling, and if you wanted you could bail out and parachute the rest of the way.

There's a lot more I didn't mention either. It's still amazing how much that game has in it.
