inFAMOUS Second Son: Taking Control

I had a lengthy discussion with a friend earlier on about graphics on the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 and I have to say that after seeing things such as this, things that aren't CG, the Playstation's supposed superior power is more than evident (Killzone looks about as good as Crysis 2 runs on PC but with Battlefield 4 running on PC everywhere I feel its been almost ignored ).

This game looks incredible and some of the scenes we saw in that video blew me away.

As far as his power goes I would say it isn't electricity. My reason behind this is that in inFamous 1 & 2 the leeching reflected what you could use to a certain extent (sans ice and... oil?) and the trend continue in Second Son with Delsin leeching smoke and a bit of flame and that's what we see in his attacks. Therefore it would be quite weird to see him absorbing this light/neon crap and then shooting bolts of lightning.

As a side-note, in the Fetch trailer we see her saying something pretentious about truthful people and then putting her hand on the man's chest/stomach and we see a blinding light.

Also, her name is 'Fetch', could that be a clue? I ask as it is an obvious alias. We saw Delsin shooting something at the end of the trailer so it's weaponisable.

I did wonder if we can change powers using the touchpad, swiping different ways and such but maybe not.

I'm just pretty excited to hear what her power is and I also hope that we get a fair few of them, my only worry being that I don't want them to kill the franchise by making people less excited about what we see in the next game as we've seen so many powers already.

She says she's never hurt anyone, then the deliberate cut away just as she "warms up" her power to use on someone that makes it look she might be about to hurt that person. 'Course, we don't know what her power is yet but each conduit's power has been weaponizable so far.

From Kinan's gamescom impressions thread

2. Infamous looks better than any media I have seen on that title. Just phenomenal. Before the gameplay demo a trailer was playing, and it was looking rather average due to compression, probably, but than game started and wow. Textures are crisp, particles are flying, framerate seemed quite stable, a lot of dynamic object destruction and creation. Definitely most impressive PS4 title so far, looks to be sure must buy.

Hoping each power is fully flashed out. And to go with the theme of flowing as smoke and light seem to suggest I think the next power we might see is water. God I hope it's water!

this can't be real... it's a:
*netbook cpu
*mid range gpu
*clearly running on a high-end PC, not the PS4
(I'm being snarky)

As I stated in the previous thread, this will be my first PS4 game (though Killzone is looking better each day). This game takes a crap on other next-gen titles from a quite a height.

I have seriusly no idea what this power is, the way he is absorbing it points more to neon and neoble gases but...how is that a power?

Well, maybe you will be able to create neon tags everyhwere.

I only started playing the Infamous games a week os so go, and i'm hooked. Played through them all and now working on my second run through which is rare for me to do straight away.

I can't wait for this game to come out

Maybe if it is grabbing the gases, it's to fuel his smoke powers he already has in the other demos.

Well I think that focus at the end of trailer was on the new power that Delsin stole from that girl.
His native ability as conduit is to take/copy other's abilities.

In the trailer when he is recharging smoke powers, it looks like absorbing literal ash and smoke.

This is different, but still so many questions.

Getting a PS4 when this comes out, the best looking next gen game, kind of surprising since the other Infamous titles werent that great visually.

Considering they were open world on the very difficult PS3 hardware (which Bethesda couldn't even get right), I think they did quite a good job of it. Now we're seeing what they can do when they don't have to constantly wrestle with the hardware to make things happen.

Seeing this and knowing it isn't a launch title is making me feel better about cancelling my PS4 preorder. I think I can wait until later around the time this releases to get one.

Something is off....

Why does he drain electricity from the letters but not the owl itself?....

In inFAMOUS, Cole doesn't always completely drain the electricity out of an object in the first press of the R2 button. Sometimes, things that have a lot of electricity (or if his meter is full, he'll stop draining it in general) won't be fully drained, and you'll have to drain it again. It's very possible that in that gif, Delsin has drained enough energy from the lights to "top off," and doesn't need to completely drain the sign.

I use that strategically in inFAMOUS 1 and 2, so I'm not at a loss for electricity to drain during crazy combat if I happen to run out (it's more important in inFAMOUS 2 to be aware of available energy sources than in 1, since even Cole's normal energy blast drains energy, unlike inFAMOUS 1).

To begin this session, game director Nate Fox showed us the studio’s latest trailer, in which protagonist Delsin Rowe absorbs the powers of Abigail ‘Fetch’ Walker, giving him the ability to manipulate neon. We then heard more tech-talk about how the game’s depiction of Seattle will feel alive and pack a suite of visual tricks to re-enforce that tangible atmosphere.

I managed to ask Fox some questions about the studio’s take on Seattle and next-gen world building, given the additional technical clout at hand. You can read the full conversation on VG247 soon – and it’s a big one, trust me, but for now I can tell you that the team has something neat in store when it comes to how Deslin switches between powers, and I was told that when he moves between smoke or neon mode – the two powers announced so far – his method of traversal changes drastically.

Visually, itÂ’s something special indeed, and when you see it running with your own eyes I think you can better appreciate just how crisp and bustling any one scene can be. Whether standing in a rainy street and watching drop splash convincingly into puddles, or the way light reflects off the sodden tarmac, everything IÂ’ve seen so far is a real treat to behold. WeÂ’ll have more on inFamous: Second Son soon.

Sounds great.

And I agree with that last sentence you quoted: I've said this before many times, but I got to see it live at E3 this year, and it really does look stunning and crisp, and smooth in person. It's simply a gorgeous game.

The PS4 controller also feels amazing (I only got to play ACIV multi on PS4, but I fell in love with the Dual Shock 4).

This game is the reason why I'm getting a PS4, no exaggeration, but the other games are a nice bonus, and why I'm getting one on launch day. I usually like to have the system in advance, but thankfully there are plenty of launch titles that have me willing to get one day one.

Wouldn´t it be easier to just push a button to gather the energy than this gimmicky touchpanel stuff?

Ahh just kidding with you guys.

I want to see shock/soundwaves.
They should be invisible, but their effect powerful.
Launch a wave in the middle of the street and watch cars exploding and windows crushing under the pressure.

You can kinda do that already if you upgrade your force blast! Causes vehicles to become electrified and explode (INF1/2)

I'm not sure I like the implication of his comment about switching mode change his method of travel drastically, sounds great in theory since it give diversity of gameplay, but I hope you can use both method of travel simultaneously. the last thing I want is for me to bring up the power select screen in the middle of action.

Well, they say they've come up with a "neat" way of doing it. I'm sure they don't think "press start -> move analog stick left -> press x" is that awesome that they'd mention it specifically.

So is his power over Neon akin to Jubilee? That's the closet comparison that I could come up with

That's almost exactly what you had to do in Infamous 2 if you wanted to be using all the best powers in combat, though. I'm hoping for a DMC4-esque style switch with the D-pad so it can all happen in real time.

Game looks so amazing.

Will be super happy for Sucker Punch if it becomes very successful with initial PS4 user base. They've become Sony's best studio aside from Naughty Dog

What's amazing to me is Mark Cerny said most early games probably won't even be utilizing the compute abilities of the PS4 GPU to any significant extent. I can't wait to see what physics in PS4 games look like in a year or two.

These guys get it.

I can see it now. Using fingers as squirt guns on the DUP goons and they're all like " oh no my clothes are getting wet and it feels super awkward", and I'll be like >:o) while surfing away.

Or you shoot torrents of water out with more force than a fire hose.
