New Zelda Wind Waker HD videos

I'm not interested in buying this game again but I don't really get the people hating on the bloom. They don't have it everywhere, just when you are outside and during the day. It seems like they are using it in an incredibly appropriate way that actually makes sense.

Bloom shouldn't saturate the whole image and affect the visibility of characters.

It should be used as an effect on distant objects.

75% of you couldnt even code a simple web page, but yet have the AUDACITY to criticize this gem. let us fanboys bask in the glory that is NINTENDO !

I couldn't fly a plane but I sure as hell would criticise a pilot if he crashed it into the airport. I personally love the look of the new WW but this isn't a fullproof argument.

It really is something else. This is really taking the remaster concept to a whole new level as far as remasters and HD up ports done by anyone prior. The bloom can be a bit much at times but it is an outside only thing and a world of water would cause severe sun reflection.

New lighting engine does wonders for dark parts in doors etc. Fortress was overly dark in areas due to the lack of a good lighting engine.

Still feel hit or miss on the new look. Game will undoubtedly look amazing indoors atleast.

lol, one of the weirdest posts I have ever seen.

What I'm excited about is the hard mode. Wind Waker is by far the easiest Zelda, at least as far as I'd rank them. Zelda games are never too difficult, but I really felt Wind Waker was the easiest of them all.

Hard Mode + Heart Skipping = :O~

Wow. Well, sorry, they totally bastardized the appeal of the original art style. I'm still getting it, but this is definitely not the way it should look.

I have a dispute with this statement because I would bet a million dollars the original art director is involved in this project. It's not like the Silent HIll Collection HD fiascal where someone is altering the vision of the original artist. I could be wrong. We shall see soon.

At the end of the day hating on the bloom is subjective. There are clearly objective improvements in the lighting, texturing, resolution, effects, etc. I don't even like this Zelda much, but I think it is a good looking game.

Looks awesome. The part with the sailing and the lightning looks great.

It's sad how all these threads transform into people complaining about something and other people arguing with them (especially when the same arguement has happened in every single thread of this game). We can't have nice things u.u

i love the bloom, i think what people hate about it is it seem every screen shot is taken in the middle of the day cycle where sunlight is the brightest and harshest, therefore the bloom simulates that. People complaining about the bloom must've never been outside in a tropical setting. its BRIGHT as heck on sunny days...

People complaining about the bloom are unhappy that the addition of light and shading gradients on almost every surface, a product of the bloom, conflicts with the hard colours and simple toon shading of the original build. That's the thing with Wind Waker HD. Running at a higher resolution and cleaner textures (if it has this) are objective improvements, but the bloom isn't. Bloom is a stylistic choice that gives the game a distinctly different look to the GameCube version. And for some people the GameCube versions' art reigns supreme.

Tropical setting and cartoon shading apart I still think they went overboard with the HRD toning and the haze.

I don't really have a problem with any of the indoor environments. Those look fantastic. It's just some of the outside locations look washed out and blurred, you can even seen some shimmering halo effect on the edges of NPC's at times in the video.

Oh well, I can still appreciate the high resolution assets.

And to illustrate this, whenever the bloom is gone, like that interior shot of Link sneaking about, it highlights the strengths of the HD remaster so much better.

I don't like bloom cause it puts huge strain on my eyes.

Looks awesome! I'm getting this day 1, but I doubt I'll be able to play this much because Pokemon comes out soon after this.

Totally agree. Cannot wait to play it with Hard Mode. Might be a nice sign of things to come where Aonuma and crew offer Hard mode form the get go for now on.

Just wish I didn't want the Ganondorf statue because I have to wait until October for it :/

Looks stunning, I've played WW on my GC and on Dolphin (it also looks incredible) but after seeing this, the original game looks kinda... boring? I don't know if it is the shadows or just the lighting, the HD remake makes everything pop. I honestly think it looks fantastic.

Probably realistically = still piss easy. :P

WW had so many quarter heart damages, doubling it probably won't do much.

OK, just watched the four-minute overview video. WOW. I've gone from criticizing the "irradiated wasteland" look of the early screens to absolutely loving everything about the aesthetic upgrades to this game. It's insane how good it looks. And I'm really eager to replay it now -- the camera control, Link's handling and the high-impact combat was always so much fun. I'm not expecting much of a challenge, even with Hero Mode, but it's just a wonderful world to explore.

Anyone hating on the bloom needs to take a real vacation to a tropical island in the caribbean. It really gives the game the correct atmosphere of being in a tropical island setting. Its just amazing how this game looks. Its making me not want to wait for the retail version and get the eshop version. Im still holding off for GS figurine though.

I did play this on GC but I never got to finish it. This time I will!

Agreed, I normally don't like bloom, but it's well used here.
I don't know how much you know about Japanese culture, (I'm an expert), but the bloom and new graphical rendering style is more three dimensional and less traditionally Japanese. The original's cel shaded rendering was more in the line of ukiyo-e or a manga-ish illustration style.

Not saying that it is totally bad, but it is in opposition to an intentional stylistic decision made for the first game.

I don't think I can really say what I feel about the visual modifications until I actually sit down and play the game for a few hours. At this point I actually really like how it looks out on the ocean, but not so much when Link is meandering around Windfall island.

I feel I probably would get used to it anyway.

I live in South Florida. Trust me, the sky isn't a hazy neon wasteland.

In theory, I really like the "no hearts, potions only" part of Hero Mode. Could turn potions into the Zelda equivalent of the Estus Flask in Dark Souls -- limited charges to refill health in-between bonfires (or in this case, potion shops). Hopefully they'll raise the price of potions so the billion rupees you find in this game can be spent on something meaningful.

My extended family is from Puerto Rico; I've gone on vacation there many times.

It's not how it looks. There is obviously light infusion, but it most certainly does not look like this persistent ghostly haze.

Game looks so good! This art style is timeless.

Love the bloom. Makes the outside scenes feel warm and tropical. Can't wait! :D

I've lived in Dominican Republic and Ive had days that look like that at the beach.

I don't mind the bloom, it might even be an improvement. To me it makes the game look sweltering hot or dreamy and that suits the art IMO.

No hearts available to pick up might though.

I may actually use potions for the first time ever!

Even regarding that it's still more exaggerated, especially in the sky.

Ultimately it's a fairly moot point to me, as WW clearly isn't striving for realism. So having a whimsical cartoony look have a defense as realistic tropical lighting is weird. I'm sure playing the game it'll eventually grow on me, but I would have liked some sort of Halo CE-esque switching ability.

Oh, man it looks a million times better than the original, no question. I love how they used the bloom, and it doesn't make the game feel any less cartoony at all. Especially since the bloom is really only heavy in the day outside.

It just gives you that drowning in sunshine look that you should have riding on the ocean on a summer day. Makes it more believable, like you could almost taste the atmosphere. I for, one think it looks beautiful and a drastic improvement on the GC version, hands down.

Can't wait to play it. Been meaning to play WW again for a while, and almost started up the GC version last year, but got side tracked. Glad I waited, cuz now I get to play a superior version in glorious HD.

I'm eager to see how the new pacing improves the game. Getting to towns, dungeons, etc, will be 50 percent faster with the Swift Sail. No need to stop to change wind direction, either. And important shit like the sail, dredging hook, baton, etc, are mapped to dedicated buttons, so no fiddling necessary. And whenever you -do- need to fiddle, you can just tap and slide on the touchscreen.

Then you have the enhanced Triforce quest -- obtain five shards directly, so you only have to transcribe and dredge for three. That right there should speed up the end game tremendously, maintaining momentum into the grand finale with Puppet Ganon and Ganondorf himself.

Speaking of which, looking forward to trying to take selfies as Ganondorf pirouettes through the air behind me.

Well, I wish you would have taken a picture so I could see what your eyes saw. I've never once in my entire life, which admittedly is only a paltry 28 years old, seen anything that even remotely resembles the bloom in this video. It looks friggin' weird at times.

That said, let's just assume for a second you are right. Let's assume in the Dominican Republic there is occasion when the beach turns into an irradiated wasteland of light.

My query would be: So? It's Zelda: Wind Waker. It has one of the most distinctively stylistic art directions in all of gaming. Was the original idea to emulate REAL LIFE, or to provide an amazing palette of colors and cel-shaded expression which is at its best when it is on a clear canvas?
