New Zelda Wind Waker HD videos

It's not that bloom is bad... it's just a touch over done. That said, looking at the GCN for comparison makes the GCN ones look.... flat. You could definitely say that's part of the charm and artstyle and I wouldn't hold that against anyone... but I'm really digging the new looks.

The bloom looked awful in the first screenshots back when they announced this game, but it looks fine now. I love how the game looks like a really high framerate claymation. The new lighting really makes the visuals pop.

The one looks fantastic, but I miss how the original looks more "cartoon-like". the cell shading seems stronger and more animated in the original

I really hated the bloom at first, but God this is terrific!
I love the sensation that the sun is making you kinda blind because it's so strong! C'mon, nobody felt like this in a beach?

Has anyone mentioned the bloom yet?

To be fair it is quite distinctive and naturally we don't have much else to talk about given that it's a slightly reworked port of a game we all played a decade ago.

Day one for me.

The bloom does seem like much but I will withhold judgement until I see it in person. I do enjoy seeing the shadow-mapping and SSAO though (most evident on his feet when running under the stone arch). This, with a widescreen HD resolution definitely make it a worthy remake graphically.

Heh, "Final Fantasy X & X-2" as well as "KH Final Mix" on both "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX" & "Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster" looks way better than that.

Wind Waker HD is an improvement from earlier, overall, but still, the annoying bloom...

I know it's difficult to be objectively wrong about an issue so inherently subjective, but in my mind, you've come very close. :p You happened to list two remasters I'm highly anticipating, but both have a certain disadvantage against this one: compared to FFX and KH, Wind Waker has a far more timeless beauty, and the adaptation onto the Wii U looks seamless. It's gorgeous, and although people can have different opinions on certain stylistic choices, it doesn't look like it's aged whatsoever. In that sense, it's a perfect HD remaster: it more or less looks like it was made for the console it's being ported to.

Seriously, I think FFX/X-2 HD and KH HD both look great (although the former certainly needs to tweak some of the remodels, and the latter didn't really meet original expectations), but my god... None of them come even close, not aesthetically and probably not even technically.

Also, while I'm sympathetic to the idea that WW HD could have less/better done bloom, I find it amazing to watch as the collective NeoGAF consciousness gathers all this stigma onto bloom itself. Whatever you think of it in this game, there's a deliberateness behind it; it wasn't "vomited" all over the screen.

Difference is that our eyes adjust to the brightness of the beach. Bloom is constant, unwavering, and outdated.

Looks pretty for sure, definitely looking forward to playing this again. However, it seems that, mostly in the outdoor areas where the lighting is really dominant, the cartoon look of the original game is greatly lessened, which is quite sad. Would be so awesome if the game came with an "original lighting" mode to complement the new look, but that's surely not going to happen. Watching the original in SD on a small screen when Cosmo (who speed runs the game) plays it, the original still looks incredibly good and so cartoon like.

Dude.. I'm not even talking about the game specifically. I'm talking about bloom in general lol.
It's just the way bloom works, and why most people turn it off when given the option.

Yes, fair point. It is also worth putting it in the context of the game, though. I mean, it is in the implementation that certain graphical techniques/filters/whatever are pulled off, regardless of their (for the most part) "constant, unwavering" nature. You take for granted that there's something about bloom, specifically, that's inherently bad.

So I don't know if it's old news but I'll repost here anyways. In regards to memory...

The Japanese site says 2.6gb but in Europe it's apparently 1.7gb. 3 save slots. 31mb save file. Supports the Wii U pro controller.

If you ask me, Fable still sets the gold standard for bloom.

It's like this boy has a flashlight inside his head.

Urgh Nintendo stop trying to convince me to get the game :(

It looks amazing, I'm totally fine with the bloom, I actually think it fits, how does dolphin manages the way islands slowly appear and go from an irregular shadow to a clear picture? the screens posted makes it look like that was completely removed in dolphin due to some emulation hiccup.

I can agree to disagree about the bloom, but I don't think the "vaseline" part is true. I'm assuming you grabbed that straight from the video feed, screenshots from the official site look more sharp (which the game ought to look on one's TV in 1080p).

This thread needs more Dolphin shots. I can't comprehend how people can compliment the bloom. Just look at what could have been.

It does look kind of dull in my opinion, without the strong sunlight and the shadows. I can't even begin to imagine the posts here if Nintendo just decided to do an upres anyway.

The Dolphin screenshots always made places like Windfall look even duller and washed out to me. The HD remake has made me realize just how much better the environments look with that touch up in contrast, and it has a consistent warmer atmosphere around it. I'm not sure I'll be able to go back anymore, the stronger primary colors look fabulous and I love all the intricate details. The bloom actually looks good to me.

Psyched to play it in motion.

"Nintendo is cheap!"
"This game is worthless they didnt change anything!"
"Screw this game they should be working on Zelda U"

something along those lines im assuming. So basically the same as now.

Yep. I don't get the people saying dolphin's better.

Pretty much. Zelda Cycle even affects upports, it seems.

Game looks fine. Excited about the other changes they've made, too. D1P.

EDIT: I had not heard yet that gyro aiming was in for arrows and hookshot and the like, nice. Loooove gyro aiming on the 3DS.

The Wii U shot looks better. The lighting makes the visuals pop more.

Dolphin looks like a drawing.

Wii U looks like a claymation.

Both look great.

I'd take the Wii U version any day over dolphin. Not because the graphic style is that much better... but those textures. Mmmm so good.

Can they patch the game just to lower the bloom and cyan color?
It will be ridiculous to spam for this on miiverse if it gets eye-tiring while playing, but necessary :/

Hype slowly climbing anyway, will pre-order this week.
