New Zelda Wind Waker HD videos

Little experiment: I desaturated some shots by about 40 (Photoshop value) and took out 10 in lightness in two out of those four pics to bring them closer to Rime's color palette and saturation levels. It's obviously not perfect but it shows that the the bloom is completely irrelevant. It's entirely an issue of people not getting over how aggressively vibrant these colors are in Wind Waker HD. The game is still made to look alive, cartoony, bright and happy. Rime, with its muted color saturation, has a way more serious, earthy, grounded look that probably complements the game's theme (I have no clue what the game is about since all I know about it is the trailer).

Let's have a look:

Game looks great. Haters gonna hate. Complaining about bloom? Christ. I've seen the game running in person and it looks great (I also have a GC copy of the game).

It's weird, because I remember myself noticing the bloom, but when I played the demo it didn't even cross my mind. Maybe it felt ok. Day 1, I guess.

Nintendo is known for making bold art style choices with Zelda, but they are almost always justified when you actually sit down to play the game.

I doubt this will be any different

Wow @ that comparison video. I was thinking of passing on this, but now it's back on my radar. That looks really great. It might be time for Nintendo to revisit toon shading as a house style. Imagine if the new Mario looked like this?

What a pretty and charming game. I did not played the original, so it will be a completely new experience for me.

Looks amazing, the lighting is brilliant, and the texture work very evident. So different from other games.

Sorry, in my opinion.

The Gamecube version, in my opinion, looks better, in my opinon. Bottom line.

in my opinion.

This is basically all I was trying to get you to say, lol. Thank you. It goes a long way in conversation etiquette.

With that being said, since it's the same authors making the remake vs the old, do you think it's fair to say that they prefer this look over the original? If the majority of employees didn't like the bloom, don't you think they would have removed it? I don't think their intention would have been to make it look worse if they thought it did.

While some aspects of the update put me off, I'm very impressed with how clean and sharp they've made the shadows. I was worried adding shadows would ruin the pristine style of the graphics, given how ass-nasty most shadows have been this gen.

some caps to go along with this:

Yeah that looks like the shitty kind of ocean that Ganondorf talks about.

Edit: This ain't critique, I feel it better suits the world. The ocean looks big and hazy, kind of believable that there's barely any fish in it

Everyone posting dolphin shots needs to understand that while Nintendo COULD have made the game look like that with the HD version, the Gamecube version never looked remotely that clean. Thanks to SD and shit DOF filter.

I think I am going to buy the digital version, I dont think I can wait until October. Ive been waiting for a game to justify my Wii U purchase and it finally has arrived! I never played the original so I am super excited! W101 will have to wait until it is on sale.

Shibata: "Shall we release it at a price as low as €30?"
Iwata: "You know how much money it cost to add bloom?"
Shibata: "Ok, let's make it full price."

Game is looking good, so does the GCN version. For a full price title they could've done a bit more though.

So you didn't buy Pikmin 3?

It's not full price.

I think both styles looks great to be honest. I probably prefer the original (or at least emulating it via Dolphin), but this one looks good too, and it has some nice Quality of life improvements. Still no idea why it'd be full price though.

Wish people would play it before moaning, the game is SO good. Feels fresh and it's a pure joy to just run around the island.

The bow FPS mode is great, had fun shooting pigs and pots from great distance.

I've played it. I enjoyed it. I will enjoy it again.

But the bloom is going to be distracting.

The bloom is OBVIOUSLY a stylistic choice to simulate the outdoor sea air. I think it suits the environment really well; y'all need to put a sock in it. There are no outdoor dungeons, aiight?

Wow. Great example of how a game with an awesome art direction on a not so powerful system can take the visuals so far.

Is the game running at 60fps?

I just can't wait to sail the ocean again. This and GTA V will be taking up so much of my life that it's nuts!

It didn't bother me at all, looks much worse in screen shots than when you're controlling the game and camera. Not going to say you can't notice it, you do, but it didn't bother me as much as when I saw screen shots.

no. it's 1080p and 30fps.

$50 is not full price. And Europe is not Nintendo's decision. Thank retailers.

You know that Nintendo influences the prices of retailers via wholesale prices? Wholesale prices of Wind Waker are the same as for other full price titles. Your argumentation is pretty weak. That's like saying the Wii U is not overpriced - retailers could sell it for €50.

I'm pretty peeved at retailers yup. Normally I'd ignore these LE's, but this one I just can't skip. EU retailers jacking up the prices. And here I was hoping for the same prices as Pikmin 3 and the Wonderful 101. Sigh.

Pretty beefed that GameStop charges an extra $5 for the LE in NA here. Here I am payin $60 for that stupid game cause I want that stupid Ganondorf.

stupid

In Europe, NoE charges €10 more for the Ganondorf edition, leading to a beefy €70. So be happy, Americans.

But I'm not saying that because that'd be nuts. How do you know retailers aren't charging Zelda tax? Nintendo sold Game & Wario, Pikmin and 101 cheaper than normal. You're argumentation is just as weak as mine.

NoE sets wholesale prices, those prices at which they sell to retailers/distributors. Of course, retailers add a margin to that. However, the wholesale price for Zelda & the Zelda LE are the same as for other full price titles. As a result, after adding the retailer's margin to the wholesale price, we also have a higher retail price than for games such as Pikmin or G&W, which had a lower wholesale price.

Not sure why this argumentation is weak. It's actually logical as that's how videogame pricing works. If retailers did not want to make any profit, they could sell it for the same price as Pikmin 3, but that might not be the best business decision.

Looks extremely good. Probably the first Wii U game I'll play to completion.

Thing is how do YOU know what Nintendo's wholesale price is? You're passing this off as fact without providing any information as to how you even would know this.

When the original wind waker was premiered so many people hated the art style. After it came out and some time after, the art was revered.

When the windwaker had was premiered, a ton of people hated the bloom but I'm sure when the game is out it'll be revered again.

Someone post that miyamoto 'fans don't know what they want'.gif.
