What server are you playing on?

By the way, anyone playing in Exodus?

Phoenix - all alone with no friends :(

I need to know your secrets. I am dirt poor atm.

As a Lala, it's nice to be so high up and tower over everyone else. Other than that, Choco or Unicorn works just fine for me.

D'awwww I bet a Lalafell will look darling on that huge thing haha

I like the Coeurl mount - it has cool music. Are all mount music the same?

Nope all are unique I think, which is awesome.

Chocobo is the usual one - funny and quirky
Unicorn is very relaxing and loungy
Coeurl special in its own way
Not sure about Magitek

I love all of them and the reason I like switching mounts depending on my mood

Now I need a mount to the Titan Boss Battle soundtrack, pretty please with a cherry on top?

I feel like this with the PS3 targeting. I don't know if picking up healing or tanking would ever be viable for me since it seems like it takes so long to target whatever it is I want to target.

Character config and go to filters. Unmark enable target cycling and check enable customizations. You can map a group to L1+ face buttons. Not perfect but a great improvement

I have a lv 33 PLD. I'm looking to level it mainly with FATES. Can someone point me where to go to FATE grind to 40s? It would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, people - I know literally nothing about this game and I don't like MMOs in general. I am a sucker for pretty looking interfaces and fonts, which this game does seem to have. Go figure. So, should I be interested in this at all? What's the payment model and such? Going for the PC version if anything.

This is my first ever MMO and I'm having a great time with it! The added "Final Fantasy" flair is just icing on the cake for me - it truly is a genuine Final Fantasy experience. There's a very lengthy story for you to follow and is quite decent at that.

You get a free 30-day subscription with your purchase, and after that it's $14.99 per month (SE also has 60, 90 and 180 day subscriptions available). They take major debit/credit card for payment, among other forms of payment it seems.

is this just with fate farming and story?

Yep

From Main Mission storyline level 35+

Did a fuck ton of FATEs, I just surpassed 1200/3000, want that Destiny's Child Achievement lol

PLD has been going butter smooth, tanked a few dungeons, really liking it

As much some here say after 40, XP takes forever still haven't learned how to FATE farm appropriately

Yesterday @ N. Thanlaan I went from 42 to 45 in 3 hours easily

I have still have like 100+ side-quests that I still left for my third and fourth class to use to level up

My 50 BLM and PLD use FATEs as there go to
From yesterday to today, in 18 hours (spread out) I went from 32 to 46

I think its 1 character, 1 server is $12.99, or 8 characters per server, 40 total is $14.99. Something like that.

It's actually 8 characters, 1 per server for $12.99. With the armory system, you don't need much more than that unless you're a true blue altoholic.

But why would even want more than one character in this game? You can basically be any class job in the game, with any race, so I don't see the point.

So, I have an intel Q6600 OC'd to about 3.0 Ghz, an Nvidia 8800 GTS 512mb, and about 4 gigs of ram on windows 7...any chance me me being able to run this somewhat decently?

I would just hate to buy it for $30 and then realize I need to upgrade my video card, which is something I can't afford to do at the moment.

Also, I tried playing XI WAAAAAAAAY back in the day when I was younger and couldn't seem to grasp it. While I'm obviously older and more well versed in games/MMO's today, I'm just curious what the learning curve is for someone coming to this from WoW/GW2/Other MMO's of that kind. Is there a somewhat decent tutorial at the beginning or does it just throw you into the world and wish ya like, like XI did.

Hope someone can answer these, thanks! :)

As far as I have been able to tell it has to do with the item's inherent stat. As I recall the tool belt you're trying to meld has only control. Therefore, any craftsmanship materia will suffer a drawback (no such penalty for CP though). I've also seen instances where when trying to stack 2 of the same type of materia will cause the 2nd one to be melded at a lower stat. Anyway, I don't know the exact guideline so maybe someone else (at higher level) can explain it better.

The stacking happened to me as well, I didn't think anything of it at the time because the first +3 went through, but then looking at the item when selling it I noticed the second +2 in RED! I tried looking online for any answers and I'm stumped :(

I feel like this with the PS3 targeting. I don't know if picking up healing or tanking would ever be viable for me since it seems like it takes so long to target whatever it is I want to target.

It's really simple

Lets say a dungeon, when you highlight a mob and 2 others, just hold down either R2 or L2, then quickly Tap R1 or L1, you will target the next mob

It becomes second nature, hell I tag all my mobs 1, 2, 3, 4 as PLD with this technique

For healing, the directional pad becomes your friend
Just keep pressing up or down, the highlighter will scroll through your party list
I have saved many tanks from certain death by throwing a few healing spells there way quickly to help out the healer
I'm used to it now through BLM cause I throw Apokolips on the tank whenever it's up

That's what I was saying!

I'm probably going with the $12.99 option. I have yet to input a credit card, and pick a service plan. The game is already time consuming with 1 character, I don't need many. I'm still learning a lot of things by myself. The target issue on PS3 is crazy, it keeps switching on me, when I want to stay on one target.

Was really bad on oh captain my captain quest when there was like 10 mobs about.

You'll be able to run it pretty decently with your rig, much better than PS3 too =p

Take it from someone whose first MMORPG is this game, I got into the gist of things just fine. I was overwhelmed at first due to the amount of players that I saw running around (never seen that before), but once you just focus on getting the things you need to do in-game, it's smooth sailing from there.

How is the gameplay? Very basic or does it require actual skill? More "fun" than WoW? Is it super-grindy?

Is there a lock on for PS3? It used to be L3 or R3 (I cant remember). Might help keep your target locked.

You can't see Lala's in the driver's seat because we are so small...might be able to see our heads from ground level, if that.

The Coeurl and Magitek mounts have the same music, which I think is the same one used for the Unicorn. I have to check it out again to make sure since I turned off mount music pretty fast due to the how much I like the music in each of the zones and the Choco music wore me thin after p3.

Thanks for answering! I guess over the years I have just become accustomed to things being in MMO's that I actually find myself saying that I wish they would change up. XI and potentially XIV seem to focus less on the things that most MMO's make standard and whatnot. Guess when I sit down to play, I just need to try and experience it from a different angle and not compare it to MMO's of the past.

I just hope you're right and my rig can run it decently while still showing off how gorgeous this game looks.

It's wow style combat (targeting, global cooldowns), though at a different pace (2.5s gcds, .5s icd which results in a slightly slower/heavier feel to combat).

As for skill... normal leveling, no. Dungeons/boss fights/raid stuff? Yes. The dungeon encounters are as good as anything I've played in a Wow dungeon. You will wipe a few times learning certain fights.

The learning curve is very gradual though, the early dungeons are quite easy if you're experienced, its the later stuff that turns up the difficulty a notch. Some of the tougher leveling dungeons are optional too (try Qarn at level... it's a trip).

Lodestone says its L3 to lock on...which is the same button to draw/sheathe your weapon so Im not sure how that works.
This will tell you a lot of the basics. You probably already know must of it but theres some targeting stuff in there that might help:
http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/ps3/manual/

Theres also an option on PC to turn auto targeting off. I dont know if thats your problem but, if you hate auto anything, check to see if its there and turn it off if it is.

The sad thing is, going in the opposite direction and only doing FATEs if they're nearby, I'm now running into a wall, so to speak. Haven't done any Leves, which I'm guessing I'm going to have to start doing. Impressive I got all the way to 39 with 100 allowances without FATE farming I guess, but still.

Boring times ahead, meh. And this is still my first class. ><

The red means the equip has reached its max of that stats potential and if u meld more after it will be 0. Unless you meld another stats.
Ie. Meld#1 +3 dex, meld#2 +2 DEX in red font
if meld#3+ is another dex then it will be 0. If its str, etc then u get full potential until the red font again

I think I read about this in the OT1 page

L3 is lock on target.

Thanks peoples! That was bothering me for the longest time. Now maybe I can get past this gladiator quest.

It's more about the position of the boss and how you move afterwards, healing is ''Normal'' unless you stay in the damage zones.

You still have the AOE poison attack and the breath weapon to worry about that both poison and even a well positioned group means popping Esuna a few times.

so now things have settled a bit. People that reached 50, how are y'all enjoying each class/job?

how would you rate them 10 point scale vs other dps/tank/healer etc from other mmos? Any huge skills needed? fun to play, animations, etc.

Just some general impressions of classes/jobs :D

Monk is really fun. They probably have the work harder than the other DPS classes for their damage, but it's very rewarding.

Was doing some more story last night. I'm almost 42 and was up in Coethras (spelling?) and the fates were over in about 30 seconds. A group of I'm guessing 80 players would wait at dragon head and when one would pop they all run to it. It was disgusting.

I like making stuff with carpentry.

Also, poking things with a Lancer is fun once you start getting some combo skills. Still haven't unlocked Dragoon yet, but I'm almost there! Can't freakin' wait to Jump all over the place like Freya.

I'm gonna dabble in some other classes soon to acquire some cross-skills for my Dragoon.

Oh I never said you don't have to pop Esuna :)

It's just that with bad positioning (AKA first time on the boss) it can get wipe worthy.

Awww damn, you can't have a minion out at the same time as a summoned Chocobo Companion? As Arcanist or Summoner I quite fancied being my own 4-man Light Party!

No, Unicorn is different for sure.

Anyone know what's a good 'profession' to have for a WHM?

I went with Alchemy as my main professions which I actively try to level. But I generally plan on raising all the DoH and DoL classes on the way. You need a lot of cross profession items anyway.
Could also go with weaver but you get so much gear on the way that you won't use it. Hi-Ether on the other hand can always come in handy..
All others I raise a bit on the go.

Semi-Pro Tip for healers: Turn of auto-face in the settings if you haven't already..

For those having trouble with the targeting:

When you hit Tab or the corresponsing button on the PS3 controller, it will target the left most target in your field of view.
If you want to target something infront of you without going through anything that is to your left, simply hit F1 or Up on the D-Pad (I think that's what it is mapped to) to target yourself, shift the camera to the point where your desired target is just slightly to the right of the center of your field of view (make sure there are no other targets between your center and the target) and hit Tab once more.

It sounds a little complicated but once you get the hang of it, it comes naturally and saves a lot of time.
