VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

vita-colors-09162011.jpg

these were the original version mockups from a few years back

I might have bought that orange but no way in hell when it's LCD.

Really? It's been out in Japan for nearly two years, and in the West for over 18 months now. At this point with any console, a cost-cutting redesign is pretty much standard practice now.

Edit - what on earth is the point in an internal 1GB of memory though? That's such a tiny amount to be basically pointless. The launch day Killzone Mercenary patch was over 1GB!

To get rid of the massive "hidden cost" for the Vita.

Ugh, they added a thick bezel around the screen. I do like the rounder buttons though.

Also, the edges of the system seem less sharp and they nixed the circles that surround the dpad, sticks, and face buttons. Makes it look cheaper to me.

*hugs my OG 3G Vita*

Gonna be extra careful with it for now on. Going from OLED to LCD...ewww?

And it looks like I will finally pick up a new memory card. 64GB is plenty big enough for me.

And yesterday or so I just posted about wanting to get a gen2 ps vita...

But no Oled? Only 1 hr more battery life?

Will grab a cheap pre owned oled one instead I guess... I how bad is this oled burnin anyway?

Exactly, it depends on the quality of the LCD. If it is Super LCD tech used in HTC One line of phones then there is no problem.

They even specifically said it was benefiting from newer LCD tech, so who's to say how it actually looks in person.

I'm willing to bet it looks better than any 3DS screen, at any rate.

What's wrong with built in memory?

You no longer have to buy a card for saves if you go non digital, plus the batttery is better, the Vita is lighter/slimmer, and it uses non-proprietary micro-USB cables.

If the screen looks noticeably inferior, it'll be the only drawback.

It's 1gb. Should have gone for 4gb. 1gb seems so....penny pinching and cheap. I do like the addition of the micro SD card slot/access, but internal memory should have been higher, the move from OLED to LCD surely allowed them some wiggle room.

Still, as with the PS3, it seems the launch iteration will forever be the superior one. I just hope my Vita never breaks down...hell, I'm tempted to buy a back up OLED one just in case.

New model looks like a Chinese knock-off with that huge bezel around the screen. I don't feel cheated anymore (I would still like to have the better battery nonetheless).

Forgive my ignorance to screen technology here, but isn't the OLED on Vita almost two years old now, aren't new LCD screens better? Every new mobile I buy the screen just gets better and better with only a couple of years between them.

Sony is trying to make this Vita as cheap as possible to maximize profit. I doubt they will put in a high quality LCD screen. It defeats the purpose of switching from OLED to LCD in the first place.

LOL.. they're that cheap they can't hide the screws?

Just realized my original vita has it too.. stands out on the white for some reason :-p

i'd be interested in a us model, since it would probably cost less than $199.99, but i get the feeling we're not going to see it below that price. the 1gb memory stick probably won't be enough in the long run either.

It's there to allow you space to save games even if you don't buy a memory card. You can just buy a cartridge, put it in, and save, without worry now. It's an absolute benefit that I wish my OG Vita had.

There's no Micro SD card. Where did you read that?

it is simplistic for people to jump and go 'eww LCD', yes. OLED should still be better, but a *good* LCD screen should be fine

Didn't their top of the line android phone have a screen that washes out when viewed from certain angles?

Well, no OLED means I don't need to replace my existing system--yay good!

I want dat 64GB card though, took them long enough (should've went with SD or some other standard damn proprietary shit).....

...huh
i like color options, even if none of these grab me, and i'm glad i went with the OLED but its cool this is out there to help the market open a bit more too. seems like a good move all around

Holy shit, they really made it look like the poor version. Might as well slap a sticker on there saying "On Sale".

So just to follow up with my previous question.
I was going to get the TWD Vita Bundle later this week from Amazon, should I go on and purchase it anyways?

It's $199

How much is it?

The Vita is an awesome machine, so you can't go wrong. If that bundle is $199, I'd say bite. If the screen on this isn't noticeably different, then this might be worth it if you can wait.

So guys, I was just about to get the TWD Vita bundle from Amazon this week, should I go forth with my purchase?

Depends on a couple of things. The first is the quality of the LCD screen. I love the OLED on my Vita, and as long as you are diligent about locking the Vita when you're not using it (just a button press like on smartphones - easy) you really don't have to worry about burn-in. But if this LCD matches it in quality, then great.

Second is what you'd use it for. If you plan to play it on-the-go a lot, the extra battery life might be nice.

That bundle has a memory card in it, so I don't think the addition of internal memory on the new model would matter very much.

If I were in your position, I'd probably go for the bundle. It might be worth waiting on clarification on the screen though if you really want that extra battery life.

Well at least the start and select buttons look better.

I wonder if we will even see this in the states this year.

They're saying 5" screen. Is the screen of the new Vita smaller? They said this is a more portable system so I'm assuming it is. If the screen is indeed smaller and it is no longer OLED then I see no reason to get this. White is very nice though. Oh well...

Well shit, I misread Micro USB as Micro SD. That's certainly embarrassing, but in my defence, it's still very early here and I only woke up 20 minutes ago....

I agree on the internal memory being a boon, but I think they could have gone higher. That's my only issue. Well that and the LCD screen, I hope it's a damn sight better than the one in the 3DS.

LCD?!?

Might as well pour raw sewage into my eyes instead...
or play my 3DSjkjkjkjkjkjk
.

Will stick with my launch model. OLED Overlords ftw!

Battery is not much of a problem because I mostly play at home, rarely take systems out to be honest, the only thing I'd like to be sure about is the quality of the LCD screen but I guess there's nothing to lose if I go with the OLED Vita so yeah, I guess I'll just go for the bundle. Thanks.

sorry breh they already announced the price drop; no chance this comes in lower but it's nice to want things

We've got a whole thread dedicated to those problems and folks who've dealt with them.

Yeah my own Vita 1000 or OG or whatever the fuck looks like shite when it's showing black. Doesn't really bother me:
I never play it because Vita has no games :(
