Oh and in case anyone is going to misunderstand and take me for a Sargatanas "slanderer" or "cheerleader" or whatever, I'm not on Sargatanas.

The thing about tanking is that you're expected to know the fights better than anyone else. The first time tanking something, especially if you didn't read up, is like being the one to open Pandora's Box. Some people really get off on that, but not everyone has what it takes.

To be fair, occasionally I need to take an attack, to discern whether or not its worth dodging. As a Warrior, my defense is high enough that dodging isn't always worth the lost damage I could do in that same time.

Thing is, I don't test the waters during boss fights. I assume their AoE attacks are going to be hecka painful, until I have reason to assume otherwise. I think that's a good rule of thumb for boss fights, but I can understand the mentality of Tanks that don't dodge.

It's just, you know, a bit of overconfidence and aggressiveness. There's a place for that, but it's got to be channeled correctly.

Additional Effect: Increase Enmity

Enmity is drawing aggression.

At 30, when you unlock the Warrior job, you get your tanking stance which increases the threat you generate from everything, as well as providing baseline damage reduction and HP boost. But interestingly, your primary threat tools will come from leveling Gladiator - Flash and Provoke. If you don't do that, the only moves that increase emnity are Skull Sunder (and only if you Heavy Swing first), Tomahawk, and Overpower. Inner Beast also seems to generate a massive amount of threat.

Skull Sunder, level 4 skill, draws enmity when preformed in a combo. And Overpower is an AoE ability which does enmity and so does Tomahawk, your ranged skill.

That's about the right progression but after Darklight you would go after AF+1 which is purchased using Tomes of Mythology.

Garuda (and I think Titan) both drop weapons. Garuda's weapons are ilvl70 and I assume (if) Titan drops weapons they would be ilvl80. The relic+1 mat is bought for 900 tome of mythologies.

After all this would be Bahamaut's Coil but I have no clue about that one as I haven't read much about it.

Yup. I've honestly stopped playing for now until they fix this somehow. The writing is on the wall. Hopefully from those "patch notes" Dark matter being properly farmable may do the trick, but I'm not convinced yet.

Completely depends on the battle at hand.

Tanks at Ifrit need to keep up with stuns.
Garuda off-tanks have to be on their toes.
Titan tanks literally sit there and listen to music for the next 30m or go watch a movie.

Meanwhile DD's have much the same thing happen.

Healers on the whole simply need to be attentive 24/7, that much is right.

you probably could split up dps. the melee ones are the easiest while i think the mages are the hardest because of cast times.


why won't people dodge out of the damn aoe moves. suck up your pride you potatoes.

I find Melee to be much more difficult.
Blm is literally a single rotation you spam and sometimes you get a proc while you're at a safe distance. Melee like MNK are having to move around the enemy constantly and change rotations a bit. DRG are much the same, meanwhile you dodge many more AoEs in general.

Also yes, people need to get out of the god damn fire ASAP. Fuck that damage rotation, jumping at the last second will only get you killed mid air before your position is updated.
 
Yeah, the biggest difficulty for a ranged dps is not being greedy about getting 'one more cast' and getting the hell out of the red stuff

Melee have to deal with red stuff constantly plus pbaoes, cleaves, and other short ranged positional bullshit

That's sort of a long term mmo issue, not ffxiv specific though.
 
Hope they open up server transfers soon. Need to finish off Garuda and Titan Hard and finish up this Relic hopefully tonight.

YoshiP was super against speedruns in 1.0 and vowed to have them removed in ARR. I'd imagine they're looking at the AK situation and will probably avoid the way monsters leash in the future.

Gearscore in WoW was ridiculous. It'd get to the the point people would request gear levels MILES AHEAD of what the dungeon even dropped. As a tank I put up with NONE of that shit.

Yeah, you'll have to level Gladiator to 15 anyway before you can even unlock Warrior. Highly recommended to stretch it to 22 to get Provoke, which fills the biggest gap in the Warrior's toolkit.
 
Did anyone understand how do the levequest rewards work?

A minimum requirement isn't a bad call as long as it's reasonable. I've seen players in instances with gear 10-20 levels below their current level.

It's not really a matter of elitism. If you don't have the gear for the encounter you really shouldn't be there, it's just the way the game works.

or are there moves of monk and dragoon in which they shouldn't be fingering baddie's asshole?

A good rule of thumb for such people is never group with them. If you're already that geared, why the fuck would you be helping their stupid group out?

MUST HAVE FULL <raid gear dropped in raid> TO RAID WITH US

There's nothing wrong with baseline ilvl checks though, people wearing level 30 or 40 equipment in level 50 dungeons is no bueno, and it gives you a concrete goal to work towards to unlock new dungeons - as long as its not implemented in a boneheaded manner it's fine.

I really dislike it, but it feels like a necessary evil.
There are people who come with level 40 gear into a hardmode primal. Honestly, so long as it isn't something outlandish, it should be fine.
 
Thanks guys, I also wanted to add to me, Bards > Melee > Casters as ease is concerned. Bards can move and spam their rotations and pile on the damage pulling aggro.

A number of endgame monsters don't give a flying fuck about the tank.
Titan for example, the tank may as well not be there for all the attention he pays him. The bulk of his attacks are aimed at everyone but the tank.

The only time the tank even bothers moving is during the stone bombs he drops, and even then it's only slightly to avoid the aoe.

So yeah, diddling the enemy's butt can be very dangerous at endgame.

WoW has them and they're pretty well implemented.

Problem is players will always take it one step further, where the gear to be there drops from there.
 
It's probably more to guide newer players to know what order to do endgame content in, rather than justify elitist attitudes. I know I'd be confused as shit as a new player if I hit 50 and then had people telling me that I can't do a dungeon that only has a requirement of being level 50. Then to jump in and have people complaining about my gear (rather than being helpful), and blaming losses on the uninitiated.

I'm not sure the alternative of letting anyone who just happened to hit level 50 queue for something they're not going to be able to finish with their current gear is acceptable. They could add the gear requirement but make the ilvl invisible to players maybe?
 
I'm level 19, I need to do tam Tara which of course is taking forever so where do I grind? I've done all available quests and the next open at 20
 
Anyone know where I can get the dps parser? I need to turn that shit on during dungeons so I know who to kick when the boss fight has broken the 15 minute mark or when I've been killed by another stupid wespe
 
Really frustrating seeing a bot mining at 9AM yesterday, and still have them mining the same area at 3PM today.

Makes me not want to level my gathering professions.

Once you have your Ifrit weapons you are good to go for AK. WP is a skippable dungeon unless you are a DPS who had very bad luck getting their Ifrit weapons to drop. Tanks and healers can go into AK right away, as long as they learn the mechanics of the fights and know what to do they can just show up and use AK to get geared.

I actually like WP a lot because of the Tonberry King who is an interesting fight, but no one runs it so oh well.

You will soon discover that as the tank your repair costs for running AK the "legit" way are much higher than for speedrunning it.
