lol :(

I tend to find with using Blizzard 2 that by the time its cast the stuff I'm looking to take down is already dead.
I guess its just getting used to moving with the mobs.

Also, fuck anyone that kills the lambs in that Fate ending it early :(
Enemies usually have spawn points. Just stand in that area and spam Blizzard II, even if nothing is there. By the time they spawn, your cast will likely be going off.

Just did some calculations. With my 12% HQ and 80% success rate, it will take me approximately...

305 mining nodes to get a single level at level 43.

Dear lord. Save me.

Company manuals and map exploration can get you through the last mining stretch.

Yeah unless you're relentlessly determined to farm the hell out of philosophy tomestones, it takes all of a massive 8 AK runs to cap your mythology each week. That's not remotely excessively demanding.

People whining about running AK 60 times or whatever are creating a problem where one doesn't exist :P

There are other sources of philosophy in the game, if you choose to run the single most efficient method in the same way you can grind fates to 50, that's your choice and your problem.

Once crystal tower is in, there will be other options for @50 gearing as well.

For me personally, capping mythology weekly and working on relic/primal weapons and then chilling out and leveling other classes, crafting, exploring, questing, and helping friends and fcmates with leveling and story dungeons is plenty of content.

I don't have any sympathy for raging content consumers who want endgame gear in a month to do... what with exactly? Clear dungeons you've already done? The sole use for high end gear at the moment is Coil, and taking a few extra weeks to get in there doesn't seem particularly onerous to me.

The cap for myth stones is 300. You can farm Philo as much as you want. It's not about MORE MORE MORE, it's about options as to how to get them. Right now it's one dungeon over and over. It doesn't take long at all to hit cap in this game so it wouldn't be THAT hard to split up myth tomestones elsewhere.

While they probably do need another way to get those items, that logic doesn't justify keeping an obvious exploit in place. That exploit didn't give people more diverse means of farming that item, it just made it easier for people to power through that one dungeon faster.

SE made leveling so much easier in all jobs and still it's not enough. There were no GC buffs, no GC turn in's, no FC buffs, etc in early v.1.0, yet some of us still got to 50 or close to. What's your hurry anyway?

It's cool to be 50 I guess, no idea why everyone is in such a hurry but there a usually a plethera of reasons.

Well, no one in the FC needed or seemed to have time to help with Garuda, so I tried my luck with the DF.
Got into a group of first timers (well, one tried to do it before, but his tank bailed on him) that were pretty cool. We wiped a bit but all were cool with learning the fight and we kept doing better after each time. I had a really good time doing it.

Good for you! :D

A lot of people play MMORPGs in monthly chunks. They would want to reach the top before they have to pay for the next month and then let their account sit inactive until the next major content patch when they'll pay for another month.

I'm not arguing that they should have left it in, but that they should have added, before or currently, more ways to get them.

The game has been out two weeks. I'm sure more options will be available as content is patched in.

Has their been any word on the difficulty of Crystal Tower? If it is hard than Binding Coil than you won't be able to do much without at least DL gear. Which leaves you chain running AK, Wanderer's, CM, or the Primals until you can by the gear you need.

That is unless they nerf the content to allow you to do it with ilvl55-60 gear.

It's supposed to be easier than Binding Coil, something you tackle before you head onto that.

Yoshi said less difficult than Bahamut's Coil.

I hear these are a delicacy in Eorzea.

But could you eat 300 a week? D:

edit wow i'm so late nevermind

was going to ask about Crystal Tower too but that's already been discussed. If it will "require" lower ilvl gear than Bahamut's Coil then that's awesome. There should be more options other than AK coming soon, hopefully Mog drops some good stuff too so people aren't only relying on Darklight.

Archer is oddly pretty fun so far, I dare say more fun than I had with a Lancer (which in turn was several magnitudes more fun than I had with the THM). But either my rotations are not right, or I'm just too used to the LNC's combo system. Like, outside of putting on poison and raging strike, for an early ARC, am I supposed to be using nothing but Heavy Shot/Bloodletter, with the occasional Straight Shot and ending out with Misery's End?

Also, it's looking like Excalibur, Odin, Moogle, and Shiva are locked again. Given Ultros's popularity, people might want to try to get on today I think lest they have to wait for sever transfers.

This is literally the first time I have ever heard of such a thing, and I can't imagine why they should be catered to specifically, but sure, I'll bite.

They can still do that if they want, I cleared post-'nerf' AK in a pure pug group in about 50 minutes. Accounting for the DF instance delays that existed previously, the overall run time isn't that different than it was before with speedruns for anyone who wasn't in a preformed group. And if you are in a skilled preform, I'm betting you can get that time lower.

If you wanna spend 60 hours capping your gear in a single month, go hog wild! If you play at a much more relaxed pace and cap mythology weekly, you'll still get a full suit of darklight in two months or so, just in time for crystal tower to drop, and with myth banked for goodies.

The really funny part, truly aggressive world first raid guilds don't needlessly farm gear, they get the bare minimum that lets them survive fight mechanics and push through with coordinated and skilled execution. Gear provides a buffer for less proficient players to overcome avoidable mechanics with more room for error. Once content is 'on farm', you have players that have already beaten the content farming it so they can... beat the same content faster and easier. Yay.

I'll be enjoying my baby demon wall and laughing at ridiculous lalafell sit+sleep animations while the speed demons are busy raging at each other in endless back to back AK runs :P

Oh um.. I'm not defending it or anything. I don't play that way at all. For an idea of how I play: I started my new ARR character in Beta Phase 4 and have been playing pretty consistently outside of the terrible server days but I'm just level 24 on my main class.

I just know people like that exist from all my time in various MMORPGs. People who want to burn through content ASAP and then move on to some other game until new content comes. Or as a way to "save money" but only paying for 1 month when there is new content.

How viable is this game if I just want to take my time leveling, exploring the world, and relaxing?

I miss that from WoW, which became too mechanics heavy and I became too competitive in response.

Also is it even possible, or wise, to buy the game now?

If you're looking for a game with the same kind of exploration as WoW then I think you will be disappointed because the loading screens and invisible walls really suck.

Heads up:

Locations have now received extra shipments of FFXIV for PC. My local Walmart, Best Buy, and Gamestop all have copies that they did not have yesterday.

You know...

I wonder if we'll ever get our own Vanafest... Fuck I remember the global Ballista tournament they held. Had a friend in it, and it was a blast...

Wish I could participate in the HM Ifrit plans, but alas. I'm hoping to finish the story within the next week, so maybe if I can get HM Ifrit done after that so I can join for other primals. :X I'm planning to unlock Stone Vigil tonight (will stay up as long as it takes to finish the million side quests) and hopefully do that and Garuda tomorrow. Maybe I can finish this weekend with persistence! (wishful thinking lol) Can't wait to get home from work so I can just play since I have no school work to do this weekend.

That's awesome news!

I would love to see a raid instance that you can jump into with AF gear that is challenging but rewards you well. I am very much looking forward to the 2.1 patch.

Coil is mainly difficult due to the demanding ilevel reqs currently.
I'd imagine when Crystal Tower hits, we'll all burn through Coil together with crystal gear much easier only to slam our heads into whatever the next impossible raid is.

Yoshida just posted an update.

Digital sales may resume either this weekend or shortly after depending on the results of the maintenance. It appears that players will be allowed to transfer to the more populated servers, but at the player's own peril as overpopulated worlds may have more frequent login restrictions than less populated worlds.

For anyone that wasn't able to make it to Ultros or another server of choice, it sounds like you will have the opportunity to move your character soon.

if ya are rating job/class animations who'd be top of your list as 'fun to watch'?

PLDs have that swoosh swoosh THUWAMP move.

I turned other people's effects off though, so i dunno. Monks have that side flip kick thing.

Oh, another thing that sucks about the AK buff, since the mobs walk faster if they move melee dps can't keep up with them. I mean, without that speed run would still be null and void, so I'm not sure why that's there.

Summoner animations are fantastic. We shoot things with geometry textbooks.

Ah, that's cool - that must be personal, I don't notice them as a tank

Actually speaking of tanking and effects, by all rights I should turn party effects to low if I have BLMs in the party because their spells are insanely overdone

... but they're also so cool I don't much mind the loss of visibility, they look great :D

And scribble notes in the margins to make summons!

If I have one criticism of the ACN books, though, is that they all have the same geometry in them. I'd like to see more complex figures in different books.

Anyone can see their animations, but if you're tanking they typically won't be standing anywhere near you which is probably why you don't see/notice them.

As for turning down party effects, it's pretty much required if you play MNK or DRG because you can't see shit with them on making it really hard to tell if you're facing the right part of the target for your WS.

Swoosh swoosh Thuwamp? Rage of Halone?

I really love the monk animations, when all the combos are strung together it looks like a mix of karate, drunken boxing, and break dancing. Can't speak for many other classes but dragoon does look cool with their various jumps and leaps. Also Shoulder charge is soooo much fun, just sucks its on a 90s recast.

Most annoying: Summoner and Black mage. Their AOE's really suck if you play a melee character, made worse by the fact that the summoner circle overrides red circles on the ground so you can miss damage queues, forced me to turn off party/world spell effects because I simply couldn't see anything on my screen. Which kinda makes the fights a little less epic, but I'd rather be alive.
