Lightning gets Aeirth (FFVII) costume for Lightning Returns

These couple costume videos have not negated the rest of the game's coverage. Have you watched the actual trailers and gameplay footage? There was a recent 10 minute GameSpot gameplay video that I enjoyed. The only "focus" being put on these costumes is by fanatical GAF members that identify them as the worst thing since Hitler Bread. If you want the focus to be on other things, talk about the other things! The costume trailer does not need the attention that PEOPLE are giving it! It's just a stupid costume! It only takes focus away from the game if you let it.

Look, I ain't mad about any of this, but let's be real here:


-A large portion of the E3 presentation was all about showing off Lightning's outfits.

-They had a trailer devoted to the Cloud costume.

-They had a trailer devoted to the Yuna costume.

-They had something like 5 or 7 videos devoted to showing off the DLC outfits a few weeks ago.

-They had yet another trailer showing off all the costumes just a couple days ago for TGS.


There have been 10 or 12 videos in the past 3 months alone about the costumes and tons of talk about it in interviews. Other gameplay aspects have gotten no where near this amount of attention. The fact that people are focusing on it is Square's doing, not Gaf's.

All of this is showing just how omnipotent Lightning is; she can be anything and everything.

Eff it. Put her in a Judge Gabranth armor from FF XII while they're ruining my favorite Final Fantasy games. Or maybe a freakin Cecil Paladin armor. Or maybe even a FREAKIN' Dragoon Armor.
 
Now what, Tifa and Yuffie costumes to finish off FF7? Rinoa, Quistis, Selphie costumes from FF8?

They'll probably skip FF1 to 6 costumes too.

I was going to say, the reason they are throwing so many cameo costumes in there is so people can forget they are playing as Lightning. :P

You know its disturbing when a game is showing off more about "dress up" than the actual game itself....

Well, then let's be real. The costumes are the game. They are the classes you can play as. Every video about a costume shows her fighting as that class, and using moves that are part of it. They are showing gameplay, not just camera angles of Lightning wearing a skirt. It's not unreasonable to want to see footage of the classes you can play as, and look forward to playing classes that are costumes of previous FF characters.

The Yuna/Aeris/DLC costume trailers are not any different than what we get for TONS of games these days. The typical reaction to trailers like those seems to be either "oh neat" or "fuckin DLC." Good reactions, bad reactions, I don't care. But for THIS game, the reaction seems to universally be "stop shoving Lightning down our fucking throats!!!!" There's a dissonance there I cannot relate to.

Cause you aren't listening? Over the past few weeks there have been a lot of costume videos, but there have been a lot of trailers and gameplay videos from events over the past few months that go in to a lot of the gameplay systems. Even the costume trailers include some good combat footage.

they are armor for the game...I think customization that reflect change in status and looks of a character are great RPG elements..Its just SE makes look like a barbie game..its actually one of the basics for a good RPG imo
 
I'm staring to like this costume...

No wait I'm not.

At least give us a Tifa costume with D-Cups of Justice. It'll give Lighting personality beyond belief.
 
This leads me to suspect Toriyama has a cosplay fetish for Light....
either way 2nd outfit with the orange jacket resemble's Hope's outfit.
 
And Aerith's rolling over in her grave.

For some reason, these costumes don't feel right on Lighting. Not right because she can't wear them more than it doesn't feel authetically believable that she would. A female version of Cloud's SOLDIER 1st Class, sure. Hell, she might even be able to pull off a Squall or Zidane costume. Yuna and Aerith, it just feels off.

You'll get no argument out of me that people are overreacting. I was merely pointing out that Square really has been focusing on the costumes.


The way I see it:


-Many on GAF didn't like Final Fantasy XIII. Many people are also frustrated with the way Square has been going about things lately.

-Square Enix has made Lightning the face of XIII and announced Lightning as "the face of SE".

-Therefore, any hate that Final Fantasy XIII gets and the Square gets, Lightning will get by association. And anything that Lightning is linked to will also get copious amounts of hate by association as well. They could show Lightning saving an orphanage and people would find someway to make that a negative.


Personally, I see the costumes as a gimmick that will probably lose any sense of novelty real fast.

Everyone thought this was hilarious and great, and I did not see any "I do not believe these characters would wear these costumes" talk.

Just sayin. Sometimes something can just be a fun thing, and who gives a shit about "whether the character would dress like that." It's not canon, and it's just a video game. If you're concerned about the sanctity of the plot and internal artistic coherence, don't wear the costumes. Not that that has ever stopped anyone from wearing ridiculous garbage in any RPG with visible armor changes ever.

I just shut myself to these kind of news announcements when it comes to LR.

I've enjoyed FFXIII and XIII-2, and I personally think LR will be a decent experience too, but SE is really annoying as hell with these kind of dumb boring news.
 
I like Lightning and the FFXIII line, but I would rather have costumes that actually suit her looks and personality...Aerith's is neither

If they didn't announce these, people would have no idea where to get them.
 
No wonder FF15 is taking forever. S-E is putting all its resources into making over 100 costumes. It's kinda funny because half of the original cast are wearing the same clothes they had in the first game.
 
Next, Toriyama will announce that he's worked out a deal with Rockstar to have Lightning be playable in GTAV DLC.
