Here are My Thoughts on my new Wii U

Is it just a straight up remake? If so, I wonder if the "upgrade fee" would apply for those of us who already have it?
It's a port of the Steam version with added off tv play and Miiverse integration. It also includes the Portal 2 ARG stuff.

I imagine the $2 would still apply. Totally worth it though.

Btw I see people posting miiverse id, I'm mael64 if anyone is interested.
I don't look up gaf at home but I do accept requests even if I don't talk much on miiverse...

I've had mine for two months now. I use it everyday whether I'm playing a game, using the awesome internet browser, or using the tv features. Miiverse is pretty cool, but I don't think I use it at much as a lot of you guys seem to.

I already have a little bit of a backlog on games. Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, and Wonderful 101 are currently on my wish list. Gonna buy those with the new Target sale. I also will be getting Wind Waker HD when it comes out. Cod Ghosts, Watch Dogs, Mario 3D World, and DKCR: Tropical Freeze are must haves later this year too. That would bring my total games to 14 in only six months. That is quite a lot for me.

Buy Toki Tori 2. I bought it on a complete whim and while I admit it looks kind of stupid, it's seriously all kinds of awesome. Best indie game I've played in years.

BTW add me! My user ID is JasonMCG. That goes for everyone else, too! :P

Wonderful 101 singlehandedly justifies the purchase of the WiiU for me, such a wonderful game. And even then it was originally going to be just a bonus, since my main motivation for getting one is Bayonetta 2.

I just go where Platinum goes ^_^ Right now, I don't really have any interest in the upcoming consoles.

After beating it, I feel the exact same way, and I'm even more excited for Bayonetta 2 now.

Although it's been a rough start so far, I'm thinking (or at the least, hoping) that it'll be getting better from here on out, and it sorta seems like that might be the case.

Want to try giving some reasons?

The games really didn't grab me. So far I have NintendoLand, NSMBU, Epic Mickey 2, ZombieU, Ninja Gaiden 2, NSLU and Rayman. I remember when the Wii launched, I had TP with it and put my backlog on hold to play it because I enjoyed it so much. I have no interest in Pikmin, since I have the GC games and didn't like it then and W101 really isn't my type of game. Didn't like the demo either.

I recommend Pikmin 3, ZombiU, and The Wonderful 101 (in that order). Pikmin 3 is definitely the best game for the console at the moment, and pretty close to my goty.

Of course, I haven't played WW HD yet...because I'm waiting on physical.

Since I got my Wii U earlier this month, I haven't given any impressions. I think the console is all kinds of awesome - posting via gamepad right now - so it may just be easier to mention what I don't like about it.

That would, of course, be battery life! Been putting in a lot of play time with TW101, an I generally have to charge the Gamepad twice a day(3 times was the record). While it's not a system-breaking gripe, it really messes with your comfort level, forcing you to sit near an outlet(if one is nearby) to charge while playing. That loss of comfort is quickly forgiven, however, once treated to the 'for-royalty-only' off-TV play! :D

I believe this console has so much potential, that if it ever takes off in awareness(with the right killer ap), it could become very popular. Too bad Nintendo seems quite content to have it fly(more like crawl) under the radar.

Had mine since December 2012.
Currently have 28 retail games, 18 digital games and 8 VC games (and 14 Wii retail games).

It's a great system and with the updates, everything's darn amazing. Game & Wario Sketch is a favorite among friends. Yesterday we also played some Rayman Legends and New Super Luigi U too and was a blast. Sometimes have a great time just browsing Miiverse and seeing the comments and pictures across forums.

This week-end I had three couples at home for dinner, we played 3 rounds of Pictionary in Game & Wario and had a blast. For a week now I'm having great family moments on Rayman Legends with my girls, the older one with a wiimote, me with a Pro controller and my 5 years old girl with the Touchscreen. Then when my wife watches top chef I'm playing Earthbound or FIFA online off TV next to her. And when she goes to bed, I'm on Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101. This has been my pattern for a while now, a good glimpse about why Wii U is awesome for me.

I've had a Wii U for a few months. The main thing about it for me is I have fun when I use it. I don't use it as my main gaming machine but, the games I do play on it (Rayman, SMBU, Nintendoland, ZombiU, NFS: Most Wanted, Little Inferno, a bunch of VC games) I really enjoy. I also plan on getting CoD: Ghosts on Wii U. My wife and kids also like it a lot, which aids in my enjoyment of it.

The only real drawback I have is the battery life of the game pad. Every other day I use my Wii U I end up playing with it plugged in so it can charge. Not really a killer for me though, just an annoyance.

Get Bumpy's Party. I don't know if it's available in France or whatever country you're from, but it's pretty amazing. I'm sure your kids would love it.

I can't rep this game enough. It's one of the best uses of the Wii U hardware, and it seems many aren't really willing to check it out.

I bought Spin the bottle because I knew future updates would be free for early adopters, but I have yet to play it.
We weren't drunk enough this saturday, didn't want to scare them ;-)

How's the Youtube app on Wii U? I ordered a Wii U the other day and am waiting for it to ship. I am looking forward to streaming HD videos onto my TV.

how come everyone is buying WiiU's now, is it the price ?

glad you are enjoying it OP, seems you are enjoying it more than i have been.

I think it's the combination of a decent prince and a good game coming out together. I mean, i also just bough my WiiU with the Wind Waker bundle; and there's already a couple of games out i'm interested in: Pikmin 3 and Zombi U

While the library is disappointing, I do also like the hardware.

Just gotta get the software going and it'll do okay. Still think it gets blown away this gen, but it's still a solid piece of equipment.

Just wait until you're near-comatose drunk and you play squeeze the orange or dog bone.

My miiverse post, for reference.

How would you rate the game? I am on the verge of buying it and inviting some friends over and mix some toxic drinks.

Excellent choices. ZombiU is awesome.

I too bought the Wind Waker bundle over the weekend, and too am enjoying it immensely. I haven't gotten to the game yet, just set it up, did the Wii transfer, messed around with the OS, etc. And right off the bat it's pure joy. Something about a new Nintendo console that just takes me back to being a kid again. And it's so, so wonderful seeing it all in slick HD for once.

Just wanted to add that I got my Wii U at launch and I still love it - I can totally see why it's not for everyone, but I think the gamepad is awesome and I've thoroughly enjoyed most of the big releases so far (I'm currently playing through Pikmin 3, which is amazing, and then I'm moving on to Rayman Legends).

Incidentally I absolutely cannot get enough of the Miiverse and the recently-released Art Academy app, I've become one of those users that posts pictures all the time. The way the Miiverse is really tailored around art and gaming communities is fantastic, and everyone genuinely seems to be having a good time on it. This is in pretty stark contrast to the experiences I've had with my PS3 and 360!

Feel free to add me or check out my stuff! My NintendoID is TomWright.

EDIT: Just to add that I have also recently ordered Wind Waker HD, I went for the special edition with the figurine because seriously have you seen that thing? Daaaaaaaammmmnn.

I fucking love my WiiU; great little system and it'll be the one with the most playtime come end of the year. The Gamepad is one of the most comfortable controllers I've experienced yet and it's a very clean and user-friendly system too, no bullshit ads all up in your face like the 360. If the games keep coming like they are now, it could end up high on my favorite system list.

The WiiU really is an outstanding console. The dearth of games definitely made a justified purchase difficult. But, as the games continue to roll through, more will realize that nintendo has definitely created a more Gamcube-esque console, as opposed to a Wii successor.

If Nintendo can keep up the pace they've got going this holiday, I think at the end of the generation, after everybody's bought it as their second (or first) system, it's going to go down as a really well regarded console. Oddly enough, because of the parity between PS4/Xbone it might well go down as having the best lineup of exclusives this gen.

I already loved my Wii U prior to this (Monster Hunter is a hell of a drug), but Wonderful 101 really sealed the deal for me. That game is pure brilliance, and I'm only about an hour in. Platinum are gods of action games, and W101 is probably their finest title to date.

With recent releases like TW101, WWHD, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Wii U is finally coming into its own. If these titles had all come out in the first half of this year rather than the second, I really believe the Wii U's fates could have been entirely different. There is too much to enjoy there.

In fact, I couldn't bear to part with my Wii U today so badly, I brought it into my office to play TW101 during my lunch break!

This is the most positive Wii U thread on GAF since... ever :D

Agreed. When I saw the OP I was like, "here we go"... low and behold, nothing but praise for the Wii U. Perhaps it's starting to turn a corner in public perception.

Love this console. The software lineup isn't stellar yet, but I have more than enough games that I enjoy on it. Also, give it a few months.

I have steadfastly argued that once more gamers got their hands on the WiiU, the perception of the console would rapidly change.

I love all the extras such as MiiVerse, the fast browser, etc., and the fact that they are all FREE.

Also, I disagree that the system doesn't have games....maybe not a ton of system seller yets, but it has kept me pretty busy even with the ridiculous post-launch drought.

And it has just enough power that Nintendo's superior art team will make great looking games for the next 5 years.

My NNID is rab1121 if anyone wants to add me. Been spending my days with Wind Waker lately, but I also have level 8 awesomeness in the Rayman challenges app.

Excellent choices. ZombiU is awesome.

I was doubting buying ZombieU; however, seeing that Target has that 2x1 deal, it may be a good time to get it and get The Wonderful 101 free.

The console itself has a couple of things i don't like: even with the update the OS is very, very slow, i found the sticks kinda unresponsive at times (or not as responsive as they should be); but regardless, it's a nice piece of tech, the Miiverse is addictive and the games seems to be finally coming.

How would you rate the game? I am on the verge of buying it and inviting some friends over and mix some toxic drinks.
Right now, it's a little lite in terms of content, there's only 12 games to play but they're adding more as time goes on. (The price will increase over time as well, as they add new content.)

The games aren't your typical mini games either. They usually require a partner to play, and the more room you have the better. Most of them are about communication between the partners.

My favorite is Dog Bone. One person is blindfolded, while the other places a Wiimote standing upright a few feet behind them. At this point, the blindfolded player is spun around (we use an office chair) and told to get on all fours and find the Wiimote, which lets out a sound from its speaker at the beginning of the round. The person with the gamepad guides the dog to its bone, and the bone can't be knocked over, it has to remain standing.

Another game is squeeze the orange. A wiimote is sat upright between two players who must press the A and B buttons at the same time, using only their faces. You basically keep mashing your faces against the Wiimote until you have squeezed the orange dry.

There are others as well, they're a bit less physical. Like one is a platform game where one person holds the gamepad, while the other person has a Wiimote in their pocket. The person with the gamepad yells jump and the person with the pocketed wiimote jumps until the level is completed.

Did I mention you don't use the TV at all.

As of right now, I would give the game an 8/10. If the new games are as inventive and fun as the ones already included, it's only going to get better. This could easily be the best party game ever created. Hell, the developers are encouraging people to create their own house rules in Miiverse and have tips on how to turn it into a drinking game.

Also, I disagree that the system doesn't have games....maybe not a ton of system seller yets, but it has kept me pretty busy even with the ridiculous post-launch drought.

Yeah, between all the stuff from the launch lineup, VC, the eShop (Nano Assault Neo is STILL amazing) and Wii BC, the "drought" never hit me. I constantly had great stuff to play and put in an average of 60+ hours per month according to the system log (wish it could track time in Wii mode).

i found the sticks kinda unresponsive at times (or not as responsive as they should be);

I've found the gamepad sticks to be perfect for the most part. They do have a tiny dead spot that is imperceptible in most games, but I did notice it in Black Ops II. I highly recommend checking out the Pro Controller if you're sensitive to this, no dead spot and it's all around amazing.

Since we're sharing NNID's I'll say that mine is FJUrban

Feel free to add me.

With that said, I agree with most in that I've been enjoying my Wii U. I haven't had a lot of time for video games in general lately, but when I do have time it's the system that I choose to play. I got the Nintendland bundle for Christmas and I have enjoyed that game immensely. Definitely the best local multiplayer game released in several years, and arguably the best local multiplayer game ever, considering the variety and the aspect of asynchronous play. And the single player arcade-esque games are great as well. It's the kind of game that just keeps on giving if you keep digging deeper.

I also got NSMBU, and while I can understand the complaints if you've played the other 3, this is the second one I've played and I find it to be tons of fun. Especially Boost mode and Challenge mode. And NSLU is great too.

The best game I've played, however, is Pikmin 3. Such a great game, beautiful and fun. A real treat. I could go on for hours, but most of what I'd say has already been said.

And honestly, I don't find the OS to be slow after the update. So I have no problems with it, and I love the UI and the Gamepad. My only issue is that, for me TVii is useless, and I would like a unified account system. Other than that it's a great console and has great games, and if Nintendo keeps up the quantity and quality that's coming this year throughout the console's life, it's gonna be one of the greatest systems ever made.

Hmm, i noticed it on Wind Waker HD (the only game i currently own); diagonal movements sometimes ain't registered when you try to move slowly (maybe the slow movement makes the dead spot more noticeable). I will ask a friend to lend me his Pro Controller to check it out :)

Nintendoland is STILL my go-to multiplayer game when I have friend over. Its so easy to teach and the games have great depth. There are also game for all skill levels -- Mario Chase (low), Luigi's Mansion (medium), Animal Cross Candy Game (High).

The "train" party mode is great if you have some players experienced in the game.

I'm still mad you can't compete for high scores with your friends list. That would bring the game to a new level.

Just got back from the store with my Zelda bundle! Also got, ZombiU, Rayman, W101, and Pikmin! So excited to get this thing hooked up and check it out!
That's an overwhelmingly good selection, I wouldn't know how to handle all these, I mean in which order.

I haven't been playing as much video games lately as I would like to, but Wonderful 101 is amazing, and definitely recommended to any new Wii U owners. I am taking my time with it, and I know for a fact that it's one of the top games on the system right now (Pikmin 3 is up there as well), but I love dvery minute of it.

I have a nice catalogue of e-shop games, as well as checking out the internet browser a lot (typing this post on my GamePad as I speak). The Wii U is definitely something worth owning.

How is NintendoLand for two player? Stuff for me and the lady friend. And do I have to buy a wii u controller for her?

I got my Wii U last week. I think it's pretty awesome. It's like the 3DS in that every 2-5 months a game will come out that is amazing and unlike anything on other systems. PC gaming supplements with it well, no lack of quantity on PC.

Nintendoland is great man. A few attractions work great with 2 players, like metroid blast, zelda quest and pikmin adventure.

That said, some not so much. I still recommend you get it though. Tons of fun to be had and the presentation is just amazing.
