Toonami |OT6| Where there's no such thing as filler

I just don't see them re-running such a long series like Bleach unless Viz gives 'em a helluva deal. It's just tying up money for such a long time for repeats as opposed to grabbing a series that could run around a year or so.

Appropriate since it turns into a never ending SAO at a point.

Not quite.
Fairy Tail's major issues include how generic and cliche it is, and how often it relies on bullshit asspulls to win. You could easily call the show "Fairy Tail: Friendship is Magic" and nobody would bat an eye.

It's not a power fantasy/harem like SAO, but it's still aggressively stupid. Doesn't help that Hiro Mashima loooooves to copy Eiichiro Oda, to the point that uninformed readers/viewers believe Oda did both series (actually met some people that thought that).

Nothing in Fairy Tail is offensively bad the way Sao is. The quirky characters and crazy magic ideas may be "inspired" a lot by OP, but it's still entertaining enough.

Huh. I always though Fairy Tale looked like One Piece. Glad to see I'm not crazy.

it's possible that Bleach's run is still under the ASA method of getting shows, which meant they were possible to rerun.

however, Toonami did say they had "two slots" for VIZ shows so that might mean that they renewed the show to use the system they do now.

They run 3 Viz shows right now for a total of 2 hours. I could easily see them rerunning Bleach or moving Bleach to the Inuyasha slot if and when (when really) they show Final Act.

They should do two themed Block overhauls:

One, how the hell did these shows fail, oh right they were on Monday night on Sci Fi

Gundam 00
Monster
Gurren Lagann

Two, how the hell did these shows fail on ASA/Toonami Block

G Gundam
DRRR
Death Note
Morbito
Code Geass
.hack Roots
Mobile Suit Gundam
YYH

i think they don't count InuYasha in that, or count Brotherhood for Funimation.

well, Mobile Suit Gundam is pretty ancient. did G Gundam ever make it to Adult Swim? and i always thought Yu Yu Hakusho was moved to Toonami because of how big of a success it was.

Well this block despite being the Adult Swim Action Block's timeslot is called Toonami, so I included the failed Toonami shows of G Gundam (which isn't a real failure compared to most of the other shows on here, just didn't do as well as Wing) and MSG (A real failure because it was old looking, has the worst dub of the series and told a war story every afternoon in the fall of 2001.)

Hell despite finishing it's run I could probably add Dragon Ball to the list.

Everything else on that list either had one run at a time slot and then vanished or never finished one run at the same timeslot. Under those rules I could also add Rurouni Kenshin.

Death Note did NOT fail. Code Geass actually did ok initially but then nosedived hard, resulting in the 5 am incident.

Renaming it the "Would have done a lot better on modern Toonami than it did on the Bleach and Friends block" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

All these shows would do a ton better with today's built in rapid audience.

better than Clone Wars?

Maybe, maybe not. Clone wars besides its weird look is actually a rather surprisingly good show.

Better than they did in their first runs? I think so.

Not quite.

Maybe not in that way but the fanservice can be PRETTY strong at points and the main hero never ever loses and always finds some BS way to win when it counts.

Perhaps I am being a touch too harsh on it but in my defense I saw 100 episodes and I am pretty sure it drove me insane.

There's plenty of good Shonen that would fit under that same banner.

Fairy Tail isn't that good. The art is AWESOME though and like SAO it's a great crowd watch. It's also nowhere near as pandering or dumb as SAO can be.

At least every girl in the series isn't trying to be slain by Natsu's fire dragon

something that's always kinda bugged me about InuYasha is this concept of "souls". Kikyo needs them to survive, but isn't she taking the souls of others to fuel her own existence? then what happens to those souls? do they disappear and prevent that person from ever going to heaven or hell? are there no adverse effects for some reason since the show treats it like it's not a big deal? the last episode had Kikyo throwing some souls at this dead girl, and the whole time i'm thinking "hasn't she basically fucked over like 3 dead people for this one person?"

I think they treat it as a minor thing because of who she is, I seem to remember at one point someone calling Inuyasha out on it (not very hard, just offhandedly). If it were anyone else he'd cleave them in two.

Correct me if I'm wrong but she only takes dead people's souls correct?

won't they like cease to exist once she uses them up? this seems like it should be treated like a heinous act lol

Like I said, I remember Inuyasha getting semi-called out on not blasting her off the face of the Earth at one point. The main crew is fully aware what she's up to, they just can't/won't do anything about it because she's helping them against Neraku/Inuyasha's old girlfriend.

so the show is just sweeping it under the rug, basically :P

That's a shame, i never watched Toonami before it was originally canned and would like to watch some of those shows.
Do yourself a favor and buy the bluray or DVD sets. They're pretty cheap IMO and it's a really good series. You owe it to yourself to at least see the Dark Tournament arc. So much awesome fights and trash talking.

kikyo herself has said she hates doing it but she dont give a fuck cause she wasent gonna stop until she kills/takes inuyasha with her to hell, though obviously that goal switches to killing naraku at any cost, and maybe still taking inuyasha with her.

I second this, the dark tournament arc is my favorite of all time. The shit talking is LEGENDARY.

Its Kikyo, they know even if they blast her she'll return. Bitch is worse than Naraku.

Funimation seems to be one of the biggest Toonami supporters at the moment (Deadman Wonderland, Casshern, FMA:B, Soul Eater, One Piece, & more), so I wouldn't be surprised if they had another show ready to replace whatever is finishing up, especially considering how much they have licensed.

Funimation is 90% of the NA anime industry at this point.

I just read back in the thread and noticed that gits is back, I have to tell you guys, like bebop ive always held high praises for the show and the dub, but im a bit tired of these shows because of how much they rerun them, and despite their praises by everyone as the best things ever, I dont consider them the onus of anything anime, cept maybe music for bebop.

Holy shit I missed the entirity of the lineup change talk. FOOLY COOLY IS BACK! FUCK YEAH! RIDE ON SHOOTING STAR! See ya space cowboy, you need a break...
