This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

So here's my stupid question. Do PC gamers ever game wirelessly? Obviously Ethernet would be preferred. I'm out of date with computers, is wireless towers a thing even these day?

I have to play online wirelessly with my desktop due to where the router is/where my PC is. I've been wireless on it for probably close to two years now, and I honestly haven't had issue. I don't play a TON online, but I do play a handful of LoL games every week. Ping usually gets between like 99-190 or so on a good day, so it's not that bad. Maybe I'm just used to playing WoW with insane pings back in the day.

It is possible but I wouldn't recommend it if you are a heavy user.

You could try it and use a network analysis tool to see how often it drops, then make the call if its ok for your use.

I am interested in acquiring the map from Far Cry 2 in high def, but without any extraneous details like in this image with all the patrol routes and diamond locations:

Does anybody know where I can get my grubby paws on this nice map?

EDIT: Stupid question! Turns out I was googling "level map" instead of "world map". My bad. If anyone is still interested in seeing the high quality blank versions:

How significant will the unified memory in 2014 GPUs be? If I have something like 4x GTX 880s and I want to play Battlefield 4 at 8k, but the cards don't have enough VRAM, will the system memory cover it without crippling performance?

I'm not sure if this question deserves its own thread. Maybe it does but I thought I'd try to get my answer here first.

I'm living in South Korea and I'm tempted to get a 3DS XL to play the new Pokemon and maybe Mario 3D land too. Does anyone know if the system and the games have an English setting? I looked at the game boxes, tried googling, and asked the store clerk who didn't know, so I'm not sure what to do... Thanks in advance!

If its like Japan most likely no. Some games have English (resident evil did) but most likely (pokemon, ac, rf4) don't have it. My experience anyways with a Japan unit.

My friend in South Korea just imported a US version one from Play Asia, seems to have been the best option there unfortunately.

Thanks guys! As far as I know Korea has its own region, but I think it's likely there's no English for the systems there. I guess I'm going to have to import one; it's just they're pretty damn cheap here compared to the UK, and I was probably going to sell it on when I leave anyway cos of the region locking.

Thanks for the DAO answers guys.

BTW Does the fast load/disc read option for PSOne classics speed up the load times for FFVI? Been wanting to play it again, but my SNES is dead. = (

Hola amigos.
I have a msi HD7950 twin frozr. If I want to crossfire would I have to get the exact same card? Or can it be from a different one?

Do you guys think I should do it or just wait for the new cards?

I'd just hold onto it (don't even bother with CF) and wait for what Nvidia comes out with or what AMD does after the R200s. The only thing worth looking at from the R200 line would be the 290X.

Alright, I wasn't planning on crossfiring until next year around this time anyways.

How in the world do I transfer Golden Abyss or any other game from PS3 to Vita? Via content manager? Remote play?

Can somebody walk me through the steps please?

EDIT: Nevermind. Figured it out.

I'm considering getting a PS4 but I'm not sure if it has enough exclusive titles/franchises to warrant it. Could someone give me a quick list of Sony exclusive games/series I'd have the pleasure of playing over the span of next gen?

You can see a list of the announced titles here. Sony has pretty much all of their studios working on exclusives for the system. It's not like the Vita is going to get much more support. The popular exclusives that you'll get near launch are:
  • Deep Down
  • DriveClub
  • Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
  • Infamous: Second Son
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • Knack
  • Lily Bergamo
  • MLB 14: The Show
  • The Order: 1886
  • Resogun
  • Rime

Thanks! I was actually more curious about titles down the road, though (even unannounced; Sony exclusive franchises). I've never owned a Sony system so I have no idea what Sony has to offer.

Well, then you might be interested in some of their enhanced ports of PS3 and Vita games. They have a long list of first-party studios and I'm sure we'll see a return of popular series like Gran Turismo and Uncharted. Other studios are working on unannounced new IPs. You also have exclusives from third-party Japanese studios like RPGs from Gust, Nippon Ichi, and Sega.

When doing a system transfer from a Wii to a Wii U, does all the homebrew on the Wii stay functional on the Wii U after the transfer?

I have a 720p samsung TV, and I let the PS3 decide automatically what resolution to display at.

A couple questions, does anyone know what the ps3 displays at when selecting that automatic function?

Is there anything I can do to make graphics/display on ps3 games look better than it already does? I honestly think games look great on my TV but if they can look better I want them to.

Do you think my 720p TV will be suitable for my ps4?

Do consoles ever get driver updates that improve performance of games, or is that only PC?

Kinda.

They can't make big changes as they would have to check every game ever released for the console won't break when they change something in the driver. You might get bug fixes or specific tweaks that are applied for a game.

Firmware/os can get updates that allow future games to be able to use more ram, better API's, better processing etc, but it doesn't usually apply retroactively.

Take for example the PSP which was updated to unlock all 333 mhz of the processor, past games couldn't use it but games made after that could (God of War CoO for example). I also believe the PS3's OS footprint was heavily reduced in size and so newer games had a bit more ram to play with but I'm not sure.

Not sure if this is the place to ask this, but I just got an original xbox, and I'm looking for component cables for it. When I search for them, I get xbox 360 ones, or results that are like 9 years old. Anyone know where I can get good quality ones shipped to Canada?

I have DMC Devil May Cry (the reboot thing from this year) on PS3.

Is it worth playing?

Eh, it isn't terrible, from admittedly secondhand experience. My roomie liked it but couldn't bring himself to love it. If you're a real fan of the classic series, you might not care for it...

Quoting for new page.

you might be stuck with ebay. gamestop used to have a mad catz cable that had 3 tips, 1 which is original xbox. I use this for my original xbox and ps2. Here it is, says unavailable for shipping though plus I don't know anything in regards to availability in Canada.

Is the DOOM guy in hell just fighting monsters forever??

Nah, Flynn Taggart is my neighbor now happily living in West Hollywood with his boyfriend B.J. Blazkowicz.

So Target has the B2G1 free deal going on in November, and there are a lot of Wii U games I've missed out on. (Most recent Wii U game I have completed is Pikmin 3)

For the deal I'm 100% set on getting W101. For the other two games, I'm conflicted between WW HD, Rayman, and Sonic. (Mario isn't eligible for the deal due to its late November release) Help guide me in the right direction guys!

Yeah, while searching around, I found out that monoprice sold 3 in 1 cables for xbox, ps2, and the wii. It's discontinued though. Those would have been perfect. Oh well...

I found some monster ones on the amazon marketplace for $30. I have a feeling they might be for the 360 though. I guess I'll just have to risk it.

Unchecking 480i, 480p, and 1080i in the system settings will force 720p, which can be better. Also turn on Game Mode (almost all TVs have it in the settings) and turn sharpening to 0 (NOT negative numbers).

720p should be fine for PS4. Upgrade to 4k when it's cheaper.

$30 is a lot to risk. are you sure you don't want to do ebay? I see a few there now which are clearly marked Original Xbox
