PS4 can't play MP3, Music Unlimited needed for background music [Up:Yoshida responds]

Weird but don't really care. I'm much more interested in if mkv will be supported. Anyone know?
The day any console will legally support MKV is the same day that the N64 produces better GFX than a Quad-SLI Titan powered pc.
If One doesn' t support Microsoft standard, how many are the chances that support DLNA ?
Who knows. I'm thinking that Microsoft is going to end the "Windows Media Extender" chapter.

I actually love the Music Unlimited service. I've listen to a lot of music that I would not have purchased or found otherwise.

I think this primarily means that they have not developed a stable media player for the system yet. As launch priorities go I can understand putting this on the back burner for a while.

It doesn't sound like they are planning to bring it in.

Since it wasn't supported by the PS3 either (based mkv2vob!) I wouldn't count on it. Especially not after this news, they'll want to support their own video services after all...

Pure fucking bullshit... no MP3 I could overlook but pulling DLNA? Fucking ridiculous... If Sony wants people to start using and paying for Music Unlimited make it an actual valuable service worth the money. Right now it isn't. Don't remove choice to push your shit product.

Such a senseless, transparent cash grab. How many people are seriously going to pony up for this, and is the negative reaction worth it?

At least throw in an MU subscription with PS+. This is worse than Xbox Live. Now you have TWO fucking Sony paywalls. This is idiotic.

It's this. This will do far more damage to their rep compared to the minimal amount of people willing to sign up for yet another music streaming service.

No no no its okay guys.

Sony understands through our super vocal expression against additional media capabilities that not a single one of us cares about media functionality and that it's pointless adding any of it.

We only buy these things for the games anyway.

/brutally ironic sarcasm

No MP3 play back? I don't even know if I'll believe this till I see it tbh....it doesn't make any sense at all.

And no DLNA?? Again, I don't see how or why.

I feel like this is something I actually need to see actually happening before I believe it.

Xbox Music is a service that can run in a browser and play whatever you want for free, and if your browser has an ad blocker you get no commercials.

Didn't even know this....*installing adblocker*

I'll only be okay with this if they release a Spotify app that allowed music to be played in the background and a Plex app for PS4. Which they won't. But if they did, I'd be okay with these restrictions.

Wow, what a mess, playing MP3s from my 360 and then from the PS3 later in the gen was one of my favorite features, especially when throwing parties or having people over. It was nice and easy to use so that anyone (even those who weren't gamers) could pick tracks/playlists.
No support for DLNA is unforgivable, PS3 Media Server was a godsend for the PS3 and one of the reasons why my PS3 still got so much use during the dry spells.

Well, a game machine is what Sony thought everyone wanted.

Still do.

"...my own music..." is the keypart of the question here.
So what speakers do you use for your console? You've got two speaker sets? Or play one through lousy TV speakers and the other through your home cinema?

Touchy.

I play music through my speakers and listen to the game through my TV.

I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you, your highness, but i was just stating what works for me. Now off you go to your ivory tower.

I actually think that might be the reason, though.

There's enough complaints, so they deliberately leave a void for app developers to fill, and 'boom'. You now have a market for apps, people wanting them, and developers making them.

I don't get the outcry here. You sign up to the service, pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee and you're instantly able to listen to music ... for free. It's just like free games on PS+.

comparing reactions to both xbone's past policies and no custom soundtracks in games. really?

Well they are hiding it behind a paywall. ..

Aside from that, there were those who were saying the outrage was useless and would fall upon deaf ears, we see how that went.

Moral of the story? Don't be a defeatist ass apologist.

I might have cared before chromecast, but now that I have a chromecast I usually use it for netflix and music.

It's probably the only second screen experience I've used that's actually an improvement too.

Also, aren't tvs all smart now anyway, no box required?

Even though sony should change their stance I can't take this post seriously .

Okay, it seems to play games well. but these new consoles are simply consumer boxes.

They're trying to take the good of PC gaming, but mar it with horrible practices, like activation limits, no compatibility with previous account downloads, games are stupidly expensive compared to on PC, physical product, but necessary installs and constant patches anyway..

Wii U has a lot of that bull, but I'm expecting it'll still scratch that Nintendo itch.. Super Mario 3D World looks like a blast. PS4 and Xbox exclusives don't impress, so why buy them?

WTF, no DLNA support either...........well PS4 is no longer a media center like the PS3

the PS3 was miles ahead of xbox in terms of streaming to the console from a PC

UH......wtf sony!

music unlimited is trying to take the music streaming space over spotify. that's like hoping amazon would use paypal.

Man I LOVE swapping out background music for my own.

I've been doing it since they added it in Project Gotham Racing back on the original Xbox. Being able to play your own music in racing games upgrades the experience in every way. Doing it through the console also meant you didn't lose access to the in-game sound effects; only the music would be different.

It was my shit for Geometry Wars, WipeOut, Forza X, DoA 4/5, CoD MP, Gears MP, and a number of others. Some of my best memories this generation were kicking people's asses in DoA to James Brown's Big Payback, or flying down a WipeOut track listening to D'Angelo's Crusin'.

If anything, I expected these kinds of features to be more prevalent and integrated across more titles. Not this bullshit.

Absolutely.

I don't really want to pay but the sensitive nature of things in the pre-launch period causes a big stir over news than it should be. Why do you think we had an over 500 post thread over just backgrounds?

I wonder if we can access Xbox Music through the PS4 browser to play music on PS4 for free. That would be ironic.

Wtf is music unlimited

Wtf is Xbox music

They're music services you pay to use so you can listen to music you've already purchased elsewhere. It's a swell deal. I mean, who has a digital music collection of their own these days?

"pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee" ≠ "for free"
I already own a shit-ton of music, I shouldn't need to pay into a subscription service to access what I already own simply because Sony/MS wants to re-monetize the music industry. Its 100% bullshit.
